HOUSTON CITY CENTER
IIDA Houston City Center joined forces and donated 80 bears from our Wine Walk Bear Drive
this past December to IFMA Houston Chapter’s Hug-A-Bear Campaign. The bears were
distributed to the Houston Police Departments so that officers can carry them in their units to
comfort children who have suffered a traumatic experience. IFMA collected 647 bears in total
from our generous industry. We are all proud to be a part of this record number!
Thank you to Charlotte McFadden and Necia Bonner for organizing on behalf of IIDA and
thank you to JCS for picking up and delivering these bears to HPD.

IIDA CHILI COOK-OFF BENEFITING TAID
The 3rd Annual IIDA Chili Cook-Off Benefitting TAID was a huge 18-team success at the
beginning of February at St. Arnold’s Brewery. Judges from underwriters HON, CRG and
Pioneer struggled with so many amazing entries, but in the end gave out trophies underwritten
by Johnson|Simon and Wittig’s in these categories:
Spirit Stick: Inventure Design- Outhouse Cookers
Most Unusual Ingredient: Global
Best Traditional Chili: Bolyu
Best Bacon Chili: Gensler + Tandus-Centiva
Spice It UP!: Wood Group Mustang
A huge crowd came out to partake of beer and chili… all for a great cause! Houston City Center
was able to donate $2,500 profit from the event to TAID, Texas Association for Interior Design; an
advocacy group speaking as a single unified voice on legislative issues which affect the business of
interior design in Texas. IIDA TX/OK Chapter most recently participated in Legislative Days in Austin
to encourage a bill introduced that may remove the $200 occupational license fee that many have
paid for many, many years. (This is $200 out of the total you pay to renew with TBAE each year). At
this time only the architects section, 1051.652 was listed. TAID urged the lobbyists to include RID’s
and LAs in the verbiage to apply equally to everyone under the umbrella of TBAE.
