    Step 2 - Upper Case

Remove the three identical Phillips screws from thememory door.

    Step 3

Lift the memory door up enough so that you can get agrip on it, and slide it toward you, pulling it away fromthe casing.

    Step 4

Release the tabs on each side of the RAM chip at thesame time. These tabs lock the chip in place andreleasing them will cause the chip to "pop" up.

Pull the chip directly out from its connectors. If there isa second RAM chip installed, pop it out in the samemanner.

    Step 5

This is a diagram of the trackpad ribbonclamp connector you will disconnect in thenext step.

    1) With your fingernails, grasp the locking bar on eitherside slide it a small amount (about 1/16" or 2 mm)towards the battery.

    2) After disengaging the locking bar, slide the cable outof the connector.

    Step 6

For this step, you only need to move theconnector about 2 mm. Pulling too hard ortoo far will damage the connector.

Loosen the trackpad connector by pulling the lockingbar toward the battery housing, using the tips of yourfingers.

Slide the trackpad cable out of the loosened connector

When reattaching the trackpad ribbon cable, make sure that the orange cable is slid into

the connector above the locking bar.

Note: When reassembling the case, the trackpad cablecan get stuck below the slot to the motherboard. It'spossible to nudge it out slowly by gently prodding it oneither side with a small screwdriver. You don't need touse much force to do this. Eventually it will just popback out and you can reconnect as per the instructionsabove. Also, note that the locking bar comes loose so ifyou see a little piece of plastic lying around whenreassembling, that's what it is. :)

    Step 14

Remove the four T8 Torx screws from the corners ofthe hard drive bracket.

Make sure you're removing the screws fromthe hard drive bracket, not the hard drive

    itself.

The shorter screw goes in the front, rightcorner.

    Step 15

Deroute hard drive ribbon from beneath the speakercable.

Lift the hard drive and its attached cable out of thecomputer.

    Step 17

Remove the two silver Phillips screws from either sideof the hard drive (four screws total).

    Step 18

Disconnect the hard drive cable from the hard drive byapplying even pressure on both sides while maintaininga firm grip on the drive itself.

This is a bit tricky. Try holding the driveagainst your body while pushing the cableaway from you, or rocking the cable gentlyfrom side to side while applying evenpressure, or both. If you bend the pins, doyour best to straighten them, using the harddrive cable as a guide.

With the label up and the pins facing awayfrom you, the bracket that has a longer shortsection goes on the left side.

If you are installing a new hard drive, wehave an OS X install guide to get you upand running.
