Children need special protection. When communicating with them we show our true colors, so to speak. This is true of adults, but also of societies and states. Children have been abused and exploited throughout history, which constitutes a particularly grave violation of human rights.
This is why from the very start the United Nations took this problem upon itself. On 11 December 1946, one year after the organization was established, the United Nations General Assembly set up the United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF.
