IF THIS WERE

MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.

Page 2: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

Jer. 28:16 – “Therefore thus saith the Lord …. Jer. 28:16 – “Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die” This year thou shalt die”

Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came Jeremiah’s warning upon the ears of

Hannanaiah. He was not more likely to die that year then you or I this year.

But Jeremiah’s word was God’s word. For Hannanaiah, it came true. In 60days, he as a dead man.

(29)

Reference to death has become unpopular.

Death is an unaided subject. Death is an unaided subject.

Although people know they must die, they banish the thought of it.

Even when man is on his death bed and is facing inevitable death, it seems Doctors, nurses and relatives enter into a conspiracy

of deceit saying patient is improving.(28)

If Saved:

• He is either an obedient or disobedient Christian• And in happy fellowship with God, why should he

be afraid?• But spiritually poor, ragged and shabby Christian

life, let him use his last days, let him set right.(27)

Dying man is either saved or unsaved. Dying man is either saved or unsaved.

If Unsaved:

Let us not deceive him, lest the blood of his soul is upon your hands.

You may say this text - Jer. 28:16 – “Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die” - is not for me, but for Hananaiah. It is not true that this year I will die.

Is anyone quite sure that we can live upto 31.12.2007?

Can you give it in writing? if I say this verse, slightly changed “You may die”.

Lots of people pay Life Insurance, so that if they die suddenly their family may get the benefits.

Are they not some things that would be different if we know that this year would be our last?

What about our separation from the world? What about your prayer life (Individual, Family, Church)? What about your soul winning service? What about our gifts for God’s work? What about your personal differences with others?

Page 8: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

In every life, for every good work and every noble decision,

God says “Today”

Satan whispers “Bukra”(24)

A. End of Nation comes:

Bible is a story of a nation as well as a body, church, a Bride (The Lord’s people).

430 years ago, they were under bondage.

For 2000 years, there was no such thing as a nation of Israel, until it was requested for by

The United Nations in 1948(23)

Page 10: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

B. End of Dispensation of grace will come:

A dispensation is a period of time in which God deals in a particular was with people.

• Dispensation of absolute innocence when man was naked:

He was so innocent He did not know any shame

(22)

Page 11: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

• It was followed by dispensation of conscience.

• That was followed by the dispensation of the law which ended with Calvary.

• You and & are living in the dispensation of the grace of God for 2000 years.

• This dispensation will end with the rapture of the Church & followed by the dispensation of

millennium.(21)

C. God-given opportunities will come to an end.

John 9:4 – I must work the works of Him that sent me while it is day. The night cometh

when no man can work” (20)

D. The end of all flesh came

Gen. 6:13 – God said unto Noah, “The end of all flesh is come before me”

Yes, God destroyed the wicked generation in which Noah lived. It was an age of

Immorality Violence Materialism

(19)

Page 14: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

Jesus spoke of wicked age in Matthew 24: 37 – 39,

“But as in the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the son of man be. For in the days that were behold the flood, they were eating & drinking, marrying & giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark and knew not untilthe flood came and took them all away. So shall

also the coming of he son of man be.” (18)

Page 15: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

Here Jesus says that it will be the same when He comes the second time.

Man will have no time for God Man will be living as if death and judgment

will never overtake them.(17)

Gen 6:3, “My spirit shall not always strive with man”.

The end of your day of grace will come. You need to be saved now while there is hope. Tomorrow could very easily be one day too late.

Eze. 7:6, “An end is come and the end is come; it watcheth for thee. Behold, it is come”.

(16)

E. End of life comes.

Heb. 9:27, “It is appointed unto men once to die but offer this the judgment”

People comment that preachers always talk about death. They say that the preachers scare the people.

The end will come - suddenly or slowly.

Before we close this year, let every unsaved reader turn to Christ and be saved.

TIME

Job 7:6 – “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle”

1. Origin of Time:

First God created light and then He measured time by dividing light into periods of day and night.

God called the light “Day” and the darkness “Night”. Evening and morning were the first day.

(14)

Page 19: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

2. Time never moves backward.

We cannot rewind or fast forward time.

It cannot be recalled. The deeds we do & the words we say can never be recalled.

We never grow younger.

3. Time has a beginning and time will have an end. Rev. 21:23 – “There will be no night time”

(13)

Page 20: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

4.Time will merge into eternity for all of us.

Every day ends Every week ends Every month ends Every year ends Every life will also end.

But after this life, there is NO END at Heaven or Hell.

(Mat 25:46) says, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous

into life eternal”.(12)

Page 21: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

5. Time is measured.

Time is short for all of us.

God warns every unsaved person “Your time is short”. Better repent and

accept Lord Jesus Christ.

Time is short for Christian service – the Lord is coming soon or death may face

believers at any time.(11)

Page 22: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

1 Cor. 7:29 – 30 – “But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; and they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

“REDEEM THE TIME” Let us do our best to win souls.

(10)

A man ran in order to maintain punctuality. He missed his train and was told “You did not run fast enough.” The disappointed man answered, “I ran fast, but I did not start in time”.

To accomplish the most for God in a lifetime, one must start in youth.

It is better late than never.(9)

Page 24: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

6. Eph. 5:16 – “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil”.

The word “redeem” means to go into the market and buy up.

Every man in Adam is sold under sin. When redeemed by Christ, we are fully to use and buy up the time for Him. Apart from the needed rest and 8 hours for job, we should spend every hour for Christ and His service.

(8)

Page 25: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

7. God made time for man and not for himself.

2 Peter 3:8, “ … that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

(7)

I.Trusting

Abraham ranch was a beehive of activity.

Herds are being rounded up for a long march toward Canaan. His 800 men servants were busy Lovely Sarah was extremely busy Everything was being packed on camels and on donkeys Abraham gave one last look.

(6)

Page 27: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

Some people gathered around and asked Abraham“Where are you going? Canada? America?”

Abraham said, “I really do not know where I am going. God asked me to leave my family, country and follow Him”.

Heb 11:8 – “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went”.

Heb. 11:6 – “... he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”

II. Confessing

Abraham suffered from famine in the land of Canaan.

Abraham went down into Egypt to sojourn there.

The King of Egypt desired Sarah because of her beauty. Abraham lied and the King attempted for her.

When the King came to know that she was Abraham’s wife, they were sent back to Canaan from Egypt.

Bluntly Abraham sinned. He had back-slidden. (4)

Promise: Gen. 12: 1 & 2.

Normally that kind of things happens to us. We become

Hard heartened Hard headed Rebellious

But Abraham went back to Canaan (Gen. 13: 3, 4), Bethel – unto the place where his tent had been at

the beginning between Bethel and Hai; unto the place of the alter which he had made there at the

first and there Abraham called on the name of the Lord.

III. Loving

Gen. 13: 8, 9, “Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen; for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right

hand, then I will go to the left”. (2)

Page 31: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

a) Abraham was willing to suffer ill treatment at the hands of a brother without making a fight, without any attempt at getting even.

b) Abraham gave into Lot. This may be found in his words “We are brethren” (We are not enemies)

Christian friendship is sweet and precious. Do not loose friendship & fellowship with others of precious faith.

(1)

Page 32: IF THIS WERE MY LAST YEAR ON EARTH.. Jer. 28:16 – Therefore thus saith the Lord …. This year thou shalt die Like a thunder clap from the clear sky came

If we cannot get along together, we will get along separately.

Abraham did not show the strength of his might and did not propose a fight.
