Time Check

Anyone noticed how - fo owing on tothe development of'zero-point' energy whichcould itself result in 'warp-drive' capabilities -acceptance that time travel may be possibleseems to have been gaining ground inscjentific circles recently?

One argument against the possibility of timetravel that, indeed, l've used myself in thepast, has been that - say - one wanted totravel back 50 years or so. ln that time, theentire Solar System, moving at some 12 milesper second, would be some 18,662,400,000miles (if you prefer kilometres, please do lheconversion yourself - | had enough troublewith the milesl) away from our present positionin space, so one would actually have to kavelthat distance in space as well - a trifledaunting!

Our present conc€ptions of space/time,however, are veering towards, well, shall wesay, a more 'intimate relationship' between thetwo, whereby it might be possible to travelfrom one time to another almost as easily astravelling from London to Manchester - well, maybe even mo.e easily in view of the presentstate of our rail networkl Th;s concept will becovered more fully in the second and thirdparts of the Montauk saga in later Jourrals.

New BUFOL4 JournalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

Let us take the concept, though, not just of ourbeing able to travel in time, but that there maywell be a number of 'time lines' existingparallel to our own but with subtle - or maybenot so subtle - differences, amongst otherthings in development and terrain. iright thisnot account for such experjences as that of theDoncaster Biker featured in NBJ6 where, onreturnrng later to the scene of hrs experience, features of his surroundings during thatexperience could not be identified Similarly inthis issue, where the object seen by the threewitnesses was not observed to take offsmoothly, but was seen in three separate'stills'. Might their experiences - including theirabduction - have taken plac€, say, on the'cusp' or 'edge' of one such ljne? Also with theclaims of Al Bielek - again referred to in thisissue. Seemjngly it would be impossible for his'two lives' to run concurrently. But - if differenttime lines were involved?

Moving from one time-line to another, whethervoluntarily or involuntarily could also be apossible explanation for the'Oz Factor' sofrequently come across by experiencers. Allthree of the witnesses in the 'Shamrock Caf6'abduction account related herein experienceda 'slowing down of time', a 'very confused'

New BUFORA JournalISSNr 1476-5314 April 2003 Isslre No.7

feeling as 'though we were in suspendedanimation'. A sort of time-line 'jetlag'?

Former RIC Larry Dales experiences inThailand with the entity 'Ml' (covered in pastJournals), which he is currently writing aboutand which I am editing for him could well havea 'timeline' or similar conneclion.Communications he received were centredmore or less on space/time: were severedwithout warning and the original 'prelude'tocommunication - a baby's cry - occurred at aninterval of more than two decades. Could it bethat our time -line and that of the entityconcerned only 'touched' at specific intervals, for example?

ldo not put this forward as a substitute forvisitations by space aliens from elsewhere inour own 'spatial' universe - or indeed anyother possible explanations for the UFO/'Alien' enigma; any, or any combination ofexplanations may be true, but it lS, lfeel, onethat should be considered. Clearly, one way oranother 'Time' will tell!

As lwrite this in mid-March, world eyes arefocused on the lraq situation and the uncertainoutcomes ofwhat seemed an imminent US-ledmilitary intervention there. At the same time, the Wodd Water Forum was taking place inJapan, when the widespread view wasexpressed that a growing shortage of waterposed a far greater threat to the world than therepercussions of the present lraq crisis, withover half the worlds population not havingenough.water by 2025 if governments did notput water at the top of their development andinvestment priorities.

That may be debatable - and more should atleast be known about the Middle East siluationby the time this issue of NBJ reaches readers- but I do believe that students and explorers,

including Ufologists, of anomalous phenomenaare better placed than most to contributing toalleviating many of the hazards facing theplanet and its inhabitants (not only the humankind).

For instance, as touched on previously, one ofthe areas lam especially interested in isdowsing, working particularly through theBritish Society of Dowsers, and dowsing (ordivining as it is better known in many parts ofthe world) for water, and also checking (andperhaps improving) its purity, is something thathas a long record of success. Scepticism mayremain especially in the commercial sphere, and where dowsing is resorted to it may ofrennot be publicly acknowledged (cl the use ofremote viewing, which is related to remote, includjng map, dowsing). But talentedindividual dowsers have long made arespected living at it, and it is utilised bypeople, not only for water, in a range ofindustaies and sectors.

Noteworthy if still modest dowsing-relatedprojects are Water for Life in lndia and nowVillage Water in Honduras, seeking to find andthen drill for water for local villages there.lndeed, Village Water has rec€ntly beenselected as the benefit charity for the 2003Scottish Promenade Concert at Glamis Castlein August.

Scottish Connections

Scotland, as lhave mentioned previously, iswhere I first came across direcl evidence ofUFOS, with the scrambling of nighlfighters toinvestigate radar sightings while I was servingat RAF Leuchars in the mid-1950s. I wastherefore interested this week to receive, as afreelance writer, a book for review MysteriousScotland - Enigmas, Secrets and Legends'byMichael Balfour in which he draws attention toScotland being the "only country in the world"to have commemorated a UFO incident, with amonumenl to mark forester Bob Taylor's 1979encounter in Dechmont Forest, West Lothian(though the commemorative plaque upon arock was erecled on Dechmont Law.).

Having to thank my three years at Leucharstoo (playing for Dundee chess club) for alifelong interest in chess. it would be good toplay in this year's Brjtish ChessChampionships in Edinburgh (competing forthe Seniors' title) and combine this with a kipto Dechmont Law and forest, taking alongsome dowsing equipment. I shall report onanything of significance in due course, and inturn would welcome any input or feedback(including, incidentally, news of any other UFO'monuments' as well as any items thatmembers would like to raise or contribute onUfology or related wider areas - I can beemailed at Oeterdove(Olineone.net).

The contribution of Ufologists to solving gtobalproblems could well slill lie some way in lhefuture. as space exploration, including of innerspace and other dimensions, continues, despite the Columbus space shutfle setback, and maybe humankind is affected by incomingsignals or other events. But in certaincircumstances, Ufologists' contribution couldbe a major one and owe much to the efforts ofpast pioneers and those who now follow intheir footsteps and maintain an interest in thesubject.

ln my opinion this is the best-authenticatedmultiwitness account of more than a 'meresighting'to have been recorded in the UK lttook place on Juty '1Srh 1981, beingsubsequently reported in the /Vews of t eWortd of June srh 1983. The occur.ence tookplace at a time when, for a while, owing tofamily circumstances I was taking lit e interestin UFO matters. Several well-known ufologistsincluding Jenny Randles and Harry Harrisinvestigated it and, indeed, to the best of myrecollection, videotapes of subsequenthypnosis sessions were shown by Harry Harris

at a BUFOM Conferenc€ held in HighVwcombe in August 1983, which I was unabteto attend.

My own connection with the witnesses in 1985and '1986 occurred in a rather roundaboutmanner. There had been an ad. in the thenmaga,ne Destiny from someone asking forothers who knew of or had had strangeexperiences to get in touch. I replied and to myastonishment the letter back was from ValerieWalters, one of the three women involved inthe 1981 affair. Over the next two years I hadover a dozen letters from Val and met her andone of the other witnesses on severaloccasions.

Soon afrer we commenced corresponding shesent me a 24-page account of the entireexperience and what happened afferwards. I

shall be quoting verbatim extensively from thisas I consider that not only is it an excellentaccount, but it also shows that ihe threeconcerned DID gxperience what was claimed.lndeed, the attitude of both witnesses I met(the other was Rosemary Hawkins), was thatthey were only concerned in trying to find outpossible reasons for their being 'contacted, and to impress on everyone that they weredefinitely NOT involved in perpetrating a hoax.ln my opinion. they were complelely genuinein this. However, I shall now quote from theaccount Valerie sent to me jn April 1985 andyou can judge for yoursell Here it is:

"Rosemary Hawkins, Vivien Hayward, myselfand another girl, Joan Copp.had arranged togo out on Wednesday the 15"'ofJuly 1981, tothe'OveF2ss Night' at'Tiffany's', a nightclubin Shrewsbury.' (Now under new ownershipand called 'Park Lane'). "The four of us weregoing to go in Vivien's car, a white Hi manAvenger, and we had arranged to meet someother friends there. Rosemary and Viviencame for me at about 8.30pm and then wewent to call for Joan. When we got to herhouse she had changed her mind about goingout - she just did not want to go. She made allsorts of excuses and no amount of ourpersuasion could make her change her mind -yet in the afternoon when we had seen hershe had said that she had been looking

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Tssue No.7

forward to it. lt was totally unlike Joan torefuse an evening out - she had never doneso before!' (CoDcderce?).

"When we arrived at 'Tiffany's' our otherfriends were already there. We took ourjackets to the cloakroom and then went to getourselves a drink. We only ever drank softdrinks there because the alcoholic drinks werevery expensive, and anyway, Vivien neverdrank when she was driving. We had notrealised that there was to be a brass band oninstead of the cabaret act, so we were boredfor mosl of the evening. We had gone outintending to have a bit of fun and a gooddance, but the disco did not start until about'11.30pm. Our other friends left at about12.30pm because of their babysitters andgetting up for work in the morning. We stayedbecause we were just beginning to enjoyourselves. Usually we would all have lefttogether and followed each other home."(Another coincidence?). 'We had thoughtsince then that perhaps the three of us weremeant to be going along that particular road, atthat particular time, on our own!'

"Towards 1am, we were sitting down chattingwhen we noticed there were two men over bythe bar who were obviously talking about usfor some reason, as they were staring acrossat us. One of them came over and asked ifone of us had a car and whether we weregoing home to Telford. He asked Vivienwhether he and his friend could have a lift toWellington. Vivien refused them a lift afrer theyhad made some cheeky remarks to us. Welooked around a few moments later and theywere nowhere to be seen, yet we'd beenlooking towards the exit and hadn't seen themgo out."

'We got up and danced until about 1.50amand then went to get our jackets and thingstogether and at about 1.55am we left. By thetime we'd got outside, crossed over the road tothe car park and settled in the car it wouldhave been about 2.05am when we left forhome. Vivien was driving on the right:Rosemary was sitting in the front passengerseat on the lefr and lwas sitting behindRosemary on the left-hand side.'

"The journey through town was quite normaland we were our usual chatty selves. Goingdown one street - I can't recall its name -outside a hat shop there were some menworking on a gas main, which we thought wasstrange at that time in the morning. We thentravelled on out of the town over the bridge, past the old abbey on the left, then throughAbbey Foregate and past Shire Hall on the leftand then across the island by the column, along London Road, past Shrewsbury Collegeon the lefl and then on through Emstree.Coming up to lhe roundabout to get onto theAS a car drove up right behind us, overtook us,then pulled up right in front of us. Vivien had tobrake and pullto the side to avoid a collision."

"The car then roared off around the island andwent off in the opposite direclion to us. As youcan imagine, we were all cursing about that.We went on past the garden centre on theright and followed the River Severn along onour lefi through to Atcham. Coming throughAtcham, Mvien commented on how quiet wehad all gone. This was unusualfor us becausenormally we'd be having a good old sing-songor chatting about everything and nothing, likemost women do! I said I was tired and thai I'dbeen bored and disappointed with our eveningout. We all agreed on that!"

"Just before we reached the 'Horseshoe'public house on our right and two petrolstations either side of the road, a taxi passedus by and we watched it going off quickly intothe distance. There were no other cars on theroad then except for us. Then I began to feelvery drowsy, so lslid down the seat to getmore comfortable. Then, on going round thenext bend in the road, I noticed some lights offin the distance, coming across the rise on theright, and then disappearing behind sometrees. I didn't say anything to the othersbecause I thought they were either car lightsoff in the distance, or a helicopter from RAFShawbury on night duty, as they oftenfrequented the Wrekin area, so I started to tryto doze off.'

'Just past the turnings for Uppington andWalcot I was aroused by Vivien calling out,'What are those lights?' I sat up and leaned

foMard so that I could see out of the frontwindow. We all got very excited and wereabsolutely terrified by what we could see. There was absolutely no mistaking that wewere looking up at the bottom of a strange, round craft - Iike nothing we had ever seenbeforel"

''The strangest thing of all was thal it wascompletely silent - all thal we could hear wasthe sound of the car engine through the openside window. Now, helicopters are very noisy, especially when they are in such closeproximity, so it was delinitely not one of those! The bottom of the craft was a perfecl circle. lthad two red lights in the middle and iour verybright yellowish-white lights spaced evenlyaround the inner rim of the outer edge. Thelights lit up the bottom, which was dark greyand appeared to be made of some kind ofmetallic substance. lt was slightly to the lefrand in front of us and I would say it wasapproximately 200 feet above us and that itwas 30 to 40 feet in diameter. (l can't be sureofthis because I'm not very good at guessing.)Vivien said afrerwards she had seen a greenlight that Rosemary and I had no recollectionot.'

"l felt all hot and cold and I was trembling!Although Rosemary and I were veryfrightened, we were fascinated at the sametime. All that Vivien wanted to do was to getaway trom it - she was convinced we weregoing to be captured or somethingl I keptwishing that my husband was there with us. I

thought that I might not have been so afraid ifwe had a man with us. I grabbed Rosemary'sshoulder and the back of her neck and I wasliterally shaking her. We were all shoutingexcitedly, 'lt lS, it lS, you know!' None of usaclually said what it was, but we all knewl I

said, 'God, it's like something out of a sciencefiction film!"'

"Rosemary wanted to get out of the car to takea better look at it. I said that I would have doneif my husband had been with us. There was noway that Vivien was going to stop - she wasfar loo terrified. Rosemary said that she shouldtry to keep up with it. Vivien put her foot rightdown to the floor on the accelerator, yet thecar seemed to drag, as though eveMhing wasin slow motion - it even sgemed to me asthough time was dragging out. I felt veryconfused and lost and lcould not recognisethe road at all. lt was as though we weresomewhere elsel Rosemary and Vivien justseemed to be sitting there as though theywere in suspended animation or something. ltwas very peculiar and since then they havebolh said they felt as though they were in akind ofdaze."

"We had supposedly watched the lightsintently. lfelt very strange because one minutethe crafr was above and in front of us and wewere looking up at it through the front window- and then we were looking at it through theleff side window! I can remember it beingquite low down in the field to the lefr of us andI saw a sideways view of the crafr, and I couldsee a row of windows and a dome. The fieldseemed to be lit up with a brightness and Icould see an oak tree very clearly. Thenstrangely, it was higher up in the sky. I couldsee the windows and dome and the bottom ofthe craft. Then it moved upwards and all I

could see was the boftom."

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

"This all seemed strange and confusing. Thecrafi was low down in the field - then higherup in the sky. There seemed to be a bitmissing in the middle, because I can'tremember the craft getting from 'A' in front, to'B'the side, and then 'C'higher up. Rosemaryand Vivien can only remember the craft gettingfrom'A'to'C', so to speak! Also, they couldonly remember seeing the bottom of the craft.'

''Another strange thing is that when the c.afrwas higher up, the white lights dimmed andthen it completely vanished. I thought that thelights had dimmed because it had gone upthrough some clouds, but I don't know -perhaps lwas trying to be rational. Weseemed to have been watching the craft fortwo or three minutes, but it seemed to havetaken us a long time to reach the'ShamrockCaf6', which was only around the next bend, less than a minute's drive from that fietd."

Field next to landing site. The Shamrock Cafeis round the bend in the distance.

'We didn't know what to do! We didn't knowwhether we should report what we had justseen, or to whom. Anyway, we thought itwould be best to go to the police station, so we\,vent to the one at Telford Town Centre. Whenwe arrived the time was between 2.50 and2.55am. We knew the time because Rosemarylooked at her watch and there was also a clockinside the station. We wondered what sort ofreception we were going to get at that hour inthe morning - and you can imagine thereception we DID get! The policeman on the

desk listened to us but we could see thai hewas trying hard not to laugh! Really, wethought 'who could blame him?'. We'dprobably have reacted the same way in hisshoesl'

"'We were all dressed up and we.e babblingon about a UFO at turned 3.00 in the morning. He tried to persuade us that we'd seen ahelicopter from RAF Shawbury. Anyway, hefetched the sergeant, and when the sergeantcame out he listened to us and took down ournames, addresses and phone numbers. Thenhe took a piece of paper with the name andaddress of a local UFO investigator on andalso said he would pass him our details. We'dbeen there in allfor only aboul ten minutes.'

"Vivien dropped me off home first at about3.25am. They had to rush off then becauseRosemary was worried that her mother, whohad been babysitting for her, would havethought we might have had an accident orsomething, as we were so late. We wouldusually return by about 2.30am at the latest asthe club closed at 2.00am. As soon as I gotthrough my door I woke my husband -Stephen - up because I was dying to tell himwhat had happened to us. He was only half-awake, though, and not really listening. I wentand got ready for bed. When I got into bed I

didn't feel at alltired - in fact I felt very'high'. Ifelt a compulsion to get up and 90 over to thewindow to look out, so I literally jumped out ofbed. All I could think was to stare out of thewindow up at the sky! I kept thinking: 'lwonder who they were and what did they wantwith us?' I had a strange feeling we would seethem again one day. I couldn't sleep properlyfor some weeks afler that because every nightI would be doing and thinking the same thing! Now lhis was strange because at that point notone of us had realised there was any timemissing. All we could remember was seeing astrange craftl"

"l told Stephen all about it when we got up inthe morning. When my daughter Louise hadgone to school I just had to talk to someoneelse about it, so I went over to see Mrs Legs, aneighbour. I told her everything and she wasfascinated. About 10.00am, Rosemary phoned

me to see whether I wanted to go with her andVivien to look over the area. She said thatVivien had phoned the Sr.opsrire Sfar - ourlocal evening paper and they were sendingsomeone to see us in the afrernoon. lfelt a bitannoyed because lwas working at a bingo hallat the time and lwas a bit worried about whatthe customers would say to me - I didn't fancyhaving my leg pulled. I was qujte surprised, though to find that most of them were veryinterested and I got to hear of some otherstrange things. lt is quite surprising jusl howmany people are interested in UFOS andcertainly nobody has ridicuted me."

"l rushed up there straight away because Iwanted to know how they had felt when theygot home. Rosemary said that she and herbrother had not been to bed because they hadstayed up talking about it. Vivien said they hadgone to bed, but she'd been unable to sleep. They told me that they also had felt very ,high'.

Vivien had gone straight round to Rosemary'sin the morning. We discussed everything andwe decided to each do our own drawings ofthe craft - which turned out to be very similar. We went out lo the field, but there seemed tobe no signs of anything strange there. TheSrropshire Star reporter came to see us in theafiernoon and we showed the drawings wehad done to her and she agreed we must haveseen an alien spacecraft. The article appearedin the paper on Friday. Juty 17'h (.t981).'

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.?

There, for the moment, I'll leave Val,s account.None of lhem heard anything from the UFOlnvestigator the police had told them olHowever, they'd seen an address for theinvestigation group UFOIN in the magazineThe Unexplained, so they wrote to UFOIN anda week later were contacted by investigatorStephen Banks from Stafford, wh; came oul tosee them the following weekend. Afferchecking out the whole report, visiting andphotographing the site and taking recoidingsof the witnesses, it was realised that there hadbeen a time discrepancy. Travelling atbetween 50 and 55mph on very quiet roads, thek journey of less than 15 miles from theclub to Telford police station should not havetaken them longer than some 25 to 30 minutesat most, but it had taken considerably longer.

Asked whether they had had any previousstrange experiences, Val stated that she hadhad precognitive dreams and premonitions onoccasion. (See later on for one that concernedMEI) However, to cut things short, it was finallyaranged via jnvestigator Harry Harris that theyshould undergo separate regressive hypnosij,Dr Joseph Jaffe of Manchester, and later Dr.Leslie Davies and Dr. Atbert Ke ar being thepractitioners with Harry Harris putting most ofthe questions. Vvhitst I have full details fromVal of these sessions - and, indeed, editedversions were shown at the 1993 BUFOMHigh Vwcombe Conference previouslyreterred to - I am not going into full detail here, but will instead quote from the News of lheWorld atlicle, which summarises andapproximates their content. \/vhilst awitnesses were in general quite happy with theidea of being so regressed, Val expressed oneor two reservations in her account and in herlater letters to me.

Rosemary's recollectjons under hypnosis asrevealed in the article showed first she feftherself 'floating' and was 'not in the car anymore'. She then found she was ,on a bed likea long table on a stand' in a semi-circularroom. A metallic four-foot tall robot thenentered, followed by three olhers. She ,quite

liked them'they'felt fiiendly'. She then felt shewas floating back into the car.

New BUFORA JownalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

\Men hypnotised, Vivien Hayward reportedthe same feeling of'floating' out of the car, butadded 'the car is being taken up' - the carentering the UFO through a door. ln her caseshe described seeing 'windows, lights andbanks of computers'and also that she was'sc€nned'. ln her case, however, thedescription of the entities involved was 'Theyare dressed in green cloaks - they look likemen'. These 'men' however were (again)around 'four feet tall', but'ugly, with strange-looking noses and thin arms'. She felt that theywere 'putting their hands inside my legs andfeeling my bones: there is a lot ot pain in mylegs'. Vivien then felt she was carried back tothe car and the car was back on the road.

Valerie's 'aliens' were similar to thosedescribed by Vivien, but she also saw afemale - a female fascinated by her shoesl'She took them off me and tried walking inthem. She had bare feet'. The aliens werecontinually feeling her clothes and hair. Shewasn't afraid of THEM, but of the situationitself.

I haven't been in touch with any of thewitnesses now for a good many years andwould certainly be interested to know if any ofthem have had further 'visitations' of anydescription. lt is, I think, though, of interest toinclude several comments Val later madewhen writing to me and also a 'prediction' ortwo she subsequently made.

ln a letter to me dated 19'h March 1986 shewrote:

'There is something that I do feel very stronglyabout and would be grateful if you could putmy ieelings across in some way for me' (laterthat year lwas covering the case in a talk atHourne Farm). 'That is, I personally feel that itis important that in order to understand andcommunicate with UFOS, it is necessary tolearn more about psychic, esoteric andspiritual matters. There are also several pointsconcerning what I myself said - in particularunder hypnosis.

' I ieel that at the time I misinterpreted thingssomewhat because I was trying to put things ina context that I could understand then.

"l have since thought about things and whenunder hypnosis I said that the beings told mewhat they wanted with us, but that I would notunderstand- I am sure that is because whatthey told me was to do with the higher mindand could not be understood by the slowerphysical mind. (l hope you can understandwhat I am trying to say!)"

'Another point being that (this was not referredto in the earlier quotes from the News of theWorld atlicle, but did form part of her ownhypnosis session - Ed) what I said concerningbeing hurt if we told anyone about theexperience.'

"This does NOT correlate at all with the waywe all felt immediately after the sighting, because we felt that it was very important thatwe should tell somebodv! That is why we wentto the police station to report the sighting."

"Also, strangely enough, we did not realise anymissing time, but we all felt really elated andwe were on a'high'. We all felt so happy, almost as though we had been on drugs. (l'mpresuming, that is, because we can't say fromexperience, as we've never tried drugs). lt wasalso very strange, not knowing about themissing time, that we all telt as though we hadsome contacl with the beings inside the UFO,and that we would see them sometime againduring our life! We seemed to be on this 'high'for several weeks, and afferwards we all hadlreatment for depression."

"One other point; this is concerning somethinglsaid the day following the experience. Wewere joking, sort of, about what those alienshad wanted with us. ljokingly said, 'perhapsthey wanted us for breeding purposes'. I amalmost c€rtain now that this was amisinterpretation on my part. I think now that itwas to do with evolutionarv purposes; spiritualevolution, that is. I feel strongly that there islife in other dimensions which can becontacted."

ln my second letter to Val early in February1985, I'd referred to her saying she had somepsychic ability and asked her if she could'sense' anything with reference to myself. Shemade a number of points when replying - and

whilst she was not 'spot on', most of what sheput had some relevance. One thing inparticular though did, even if, as she said inher letter, 'lt sounds silly'. This was: 'l can seea bag of plums! On the bag is written anumbet - 72127. I don't know what thismeans.'Well, ldidn'i immediately make anycorrelation either. However, at that time I usedlo exchange long monthly tapes with LuciusFarish in Arkansas, and on telling him aboutVal and the Missing Time experiencegenerally, he replied that I should have done!He lives in PluMerville and his zip code is72127! I had certainly said nothingwhatsoever to Val about Lou Farish up to thatpointl

I have not been in touch with either Val orRosemary in recent years; indeed, they maywell have moved away from the Telford area, but it would be interesting - as indeed it wouldbe with many other experiencers - to find outwhether there have been any subsequentdevelopments. lt is vary rare indeed, if notunique, for three women to have had amissing time/abduction experienc€ together.

SOHO is believed to have beamed backhundreds of similar images over a long period, and is positioned approximately one millionmiles from Earth with its main cameraspointing sunwards. The distance of the objectsfrom its cameras is questionable but is thorjghtby some to be as little as hundreds of miles.

Mr. Murray stated that when I{ASA was asked, they first said the images could be camerafaults, but digital enhanc€ment proved this notto be so. A second NASA suggestion that theycould be asteroids or comets was ruled outwhen it was found that the objecls movedindependently and even appeared lo maketurns. NASA declined to comment further.

Graham Birdsall, ol UFO Magazine wasquoted as saying, 'The images are irrefutablein that they are from official satellites owned byNASA - to all intents and purposes here isevidenc€ of anomalous objects in space thatappear structured and seem to haveintelligently controlled movements" and "theyresemble the kind of spacecraff we used tosee in sci-fi films like Star Treck". However, inthe March issue of UFO Magazine, Gtahamstates that quotes to the effecl that he believedthese anomalous objects'to be evidence ofalien life' were spurious. He had said, "Vvhilstthe provenance of the images was not indoubt. he and others were keen to learn moreabout these anomalous, yet well-definedobjects, some of which, EuroSETl claimed, appeared to perform intelligently conkolledmanoeuvres."

Failing it to be the most elaborate UFO hoaxever attempted - and this would seem mostunlikely, particularly as NASA has not deniedtheir origin I have lo say that the images - aspresented - are impressive, though il must beremembered that there is a very considerabledegree of computer enhancement which coulddistort as well as enhance the original images. One criticism could also be that they are TOOlike both reported UFOS and craff from StarTreck, but then, why shouldn't they be? Afrerall, many UFOS of similar shapes HAVE been.eportedl

At least, though, no one can put fonvard someof the 'standard' misidentifications. Aircraftlightsi Venus; Kites; the Aurora Borealis;advertising gimmicks; balloons are all clearly'out', as are atmospheric condensation, flocksof birds, mirages and that good old 'standby' -ball lightning!

The witness, Mrs C.B. (61), lives with her twosons David (23) and Sean (39) lpseudonyms]in a terraced house in a South London suburb. She approached BUFOM after a series ofre@nl events that had left her confused andagitaled. Malcolm Robinson and I went to visither in her home on 2515/98, more to offersupport than anything else, since the originalphone calls from the witness seemed to besomewhat less than evidential.

Mrs C.B. has led a rather eventful life, paranormally speaking, as have so many otherwitngsses. She has been experiencingprecognitive dreams and visions since a veryyoung age, and indeed time distortions andanomalies make up the bulk of her strangeexperiences. She also suffers from the 'media

premonition' syndrome, in her case seeingreports on TV before the events actuallyhappen. She saw the Lockerbie crash andOxford Street bombing in advance of theevents, and in fact told us on the day of theinterview that she had seen a report thatmorning on TV discussing the fact thatCharllon F.C. had moved up a division, whenin reality the crucial game wasn't to be playedtill later that afternoon. lt seems thatpremonitions don't always have to be weightyand catastrophjcl Charlton did move up, butthen again it was a 50-50 probability.

When Mrs B. was a young teenager (13-14)she befriended a much older man, a gardenerand nurseryman, who taught her all aboutplants. Since then, she believes, she has hadan unusual affinity with all types of plant-life,communicates with them and has a specialability to make them grow. Her house, cerlainly, was full of plants, all in ditferentstages of luxuriant groMh, and one particularSwiss cheese-plant allegedly dances to musicwhen in the mood. This, unfortunately, wewere not privileged to see. The nurserymanalso taught her about things esoteric, and atone point actually hypnotically regressed herback to a past life as a Celtic princess. Thealarm bells were ringing in my head by thistime, wondering just what might have beengoing on between an older man and a young, pubescent, vulnerable girl, but alter such along time I didn't think it wise or approprjate tovoice those fears to the witness.

A very unusual incident happened to thewitness when she was about 18-19 years old.She and her then boyfriend (with whom shehas long since lost touch) took an evening spinout to Goodwood motor racing track in theboyfriend's Austin 7. Suddenly, the car 'died'on them. The engine shut off and atl theeleclrics failed. They sat in the car bemusedand decided to smoke a cigarette, neverthinking to get out of the vehicle and lookunder the bonnet. Their next memory was ofeverything coming on again, at which pointthey decided to drive straight home, only tofind that an hour and a half of time wasmissing. According to Mrs C.B. the car hadnever acted up before, nor again afterwards.

Since the incident happened in 1954-55, andthe other witness is uncontactable, there is nopossibility offollowing this up.

The incidents that prompted the witness tocontact BUFOM started about live years ago.Mrs C.B. was lying in bed reading when thehouse was suddenly plunged into darkness. She got up to go and fetch a new light bulb forher bedside lamp, passing by the front door onher way back, to check if there had been apower-cut. She opened the door, only to beconfronted by a huge, bright white light in thestreet outside. She remembers nothing more, and woke up in her bed next morning, butthere was a light bulb on the hall table whereshe had put it before she opened the frontdoor.

On a night not long ater this, the witness andher son David and some of his friendswatched, for at least an hour, up to 50 lights'playing in the sky', displaying amazingaerobatic abilities

About six weeks before the interview, andagain four weeks later, this incident wasrepeated. Again the witness was lying in bed, this time watching TV. The lights and TVslowly started to dim, and again she got up outof bed to go to the door and see if thestreetlights were out. Again a bright, white, light that filled her whole field of visionconfronted her. The light was 'crackling' andhurt her eyes, and she could see nothing ofthe street or neighbouring houses. Thewilness was aware of being in some kind ofdissociated state, and having a telepathic

11

New BUFORA foarnalTSsN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

conversation with someone unknown. Her nextmemory was of waking up in bed nextmorning.

These experiences are disturbing andtrightening Mrs C.B.. and she's now worryingthat people will think she's out ot her mind. She freely admits that she's always been a'strange'person. There's a feeling of anxietyand anticipation building up in her, and shebelieves that something is going to happenwithin the next year or so, not necessarily on apersonal level, but something of greatsignificance to mankind. This is a commonlyheld belief amongst many witnesses I'vespoken to, and may well be linked, consciouslyor unconsciously, with the coming millennium.

The younger son, David, has been witness toseveral strange incidents over the years. Heand his mother believe they have a strongemotional and telepathic link, and this maywell be playing a part in his involvement. Hehimself witnessed the 'ghost-cat', which tookup temporary residence in their house twoyears ago. Various people, including the homehelp, saw the cat several times. The homehelp actually stroked the animal and wassurprised to find out how icy-cold it was. Davidalmost tripped over it on the stairs, but oncloser inspeclion found that it had justvanished into thin air. All the witnesses areadamant that it was not a real, live cat.

On another occasion, David and Seanwitnessed with greal consternation theirmother go into an 'out-of-time' episode, whereshe was 18 again and back at art college

(witness is an accomplished artist). Mrs C.B.has no memory of this incident, which lastedfor more than an hour. There are no otherreports of such 'fugue' states in the life of thewitness, but both she and David admit totrequent feelings of dissociation.

The witness is a semi-invalid, suffering fromchronic arthritis and more recently ME.Because of this, she has turned her livingroom into a bedroom, and spends a lot of timein bed. The 'bright-lighf experiences have allhappened when she was in bed in a relaxedstate before sleeping, and could conc€ivablybe hynagogic in nature. She suffers from manyallergies and paracetemol is the onlymedication that she takes.

Dissociation, fugue states, folie e deux, sleepparalysjs and imagery - all words on thetongues of psychologists, and all potentiallyrelevant here. lt is interesting to note that thewitness and her son David have read up onthe UFO phenomenon (she found BUFORA'Scontact no. in Time Travel by Jenny Randles)and that she has a deep fascination for NewMexico.

As an interesting afterword, Mrs C.B. c€lledme a week after the interview. I had told herthat her premonitions would hold much moreweight if they were logged with someone (me)as soon as she received them, and before theevent. Consequently she called to inform methat she'd had a waking vision of an impendingdisaster in a large, domed, glass building like arailway station. There was a lot of noise, bloodand fire, and she felt it involved a bomb. Anhour later she called again with more details. She felt that it would happen at the Eurostarterminus at Waterloo, and that she could see anewssland or kiosk with a black briefcasebeside it. She could also see a person with apiece of metal sticking out of this head. Shehad no time frame for this incident, but wasafraid that it would be timed to coincide withfootball fans travelling to France. Thisinformation was relayed to me on 2/6/98 at1.45pm, and I didn't quite know what to dowith;t. Malcolm Robinson decided to callLondon Transport pollce and told them thestory. They duly noted it and thanked him for

his concern. Nothing, lo date (11/6/98),thankfully has happened.

lnvestigator Observations

Although perhaps very politically incorrect, I

must mention the following, as it may give us aclue to the mechanisms at work in at leastsome paranormal cases.

The family are living in squalid conditions, theworst I've seen to date. I must note that this, inmy personal experience as an investigator, isnot at all uncommon, and is in itself aninteresting part of the phenomenon. Does thisphenomenon target poor people with littlesocial or intellectual credibility, knowing thatthey will not be believed? Do deprived people, who learn to dissociate al an early age, openup portals to other realities? Or do they createtheir own realities as an escape mechanism, whereby such mundane things as cleanliness, hygiene and social acceptability have little orno importance?

The incidence of alleged ME amongstexperiencers is higher than would bestatistically expected. Many of these claimsinvolve self-diagnosis, so cannot be takenentirely seriously, bul the symptomsexperienced involve chronic fatigue, depression and joint and muscle pain. Theseare also the symptoms of a blood conditioncalled haemochromatosis, where iron is notmetabolised and excreted efficiently and isslored in exc€ssive amounts in various organsin the body.

The only treatment at the moment is regular'bleeding'. This excess iron can coalesc€ intowhat appear under X-ray to be 'foreignbodies', and could conceivably bemisconstrued as 'alien implants'. The conditionis more common than one would think, and isoften not diagnosed, especially when thesymptoms are miH and the sufferer canmanage to carry on with a vaguely normal life-style. lt is quite 'konic' that the symptoms areoften mistaken for anaemia, and when bloodiron levels are found to be normal, which theyusually are, the sufferer is sent away none thewiser, thus leading them to make their own

diagnosis of ME. lt is the levels of ferritin(stored iron) that must be checked andmonitored.

I stumbled upon this condition quite byaccident whilst researching something else- Iimmediately contacted a medically{rainedabduction researcher in the USA, and heinformed me that the links between alienimplants and this blood condition had alsorecently been made over there.

ln mid-January many people in the town ofDrumnadrochit, a village on the A82 some 10miles southwest of lnverness and -significantly or otherwise - close to thenorthern banks of Loch Ness - reportedseeing a UFO.

Mr and Mrs Gresham first reported the strangeljght at 01:30 in the morning when MrGresham glanced out of a window. Seen bythe naked eye as bright blue in colour, videofootage was subsequently taken whichshowed the lighuobject as a green colour and

The Greshams got in touch with RAFLossiemouth to see if they had anyinformation, but it seems that radarobservation at the station ceases after'11pm.Others in the Drumnadrochit areasubsequently saw the light, which was hard topin down as having an astronomical originsince on several occasions it moved andmanoeuvred in different directions.

As an experiencedstudio photographer, the Earl had himsefmade detailed investigations of numbers ofcircles appearing around the Stonehenge andWltshire areas.

Whilst agreeing that many of the circles thathave appeared are hoaxes, he considers thatit is not possible for the more inlricate ones tohave been completed in a single night andthought that the best Scottish example was thecircle appearing in a field at Vvhitsome,Berwickshire in August l990.

Shuttle 'UFO'?My first reaction to the Columbia Shuttledisaster - as I am sure was that of everyoneelse - was of shock at the kagedy andsympathy for allthe relatives of those involved. My second was to wonder how long it wouldbe before someone came up with a UFOconneclion and - like everyone else, havingwatched its break-up - thinking it would be inrather poor taste.

Telephoned Report

A man called from the vicinity of Atkins, Tx, toreport lhat both he and his grandchildren hadwitnessed a green, self-luminous objecl move

towards the Space Shuttle very quickly, seemingly from the southwest as the Shuttlestreaked across the Texas sky. He stated thatthe witnesses flrst noticed the objecl anestimated two seconds after they had firstwitnessed the Shuttle in the sky to thenorthwest.

The grandfather reported that, at flrst, he didnot trust his eyes, and said nothing. However,a second or so later, his grandson asked whatthe'green thing' in the sky was.

NUFORC hasn't received their written reportyet (5'h Feb), but we include below thegrandfathe/s email, which we receivedFebruary 4s 2003.

Peter,

I spoke with you just minutes afier the shuttledisaster on Saturday. You were kind enolghto listen (to me) regarding the bright greenlight lsaw running parallel with the shuttleprior to the shuttle's explosion

I was there with my grandchildren watching forColumbia's return. We watched it fiom horizonto horizon and I can't imagine having a betteroverall vantage point than the spot where westood.

I told you that I would send a detaileddescription of what lsaw - green light, explosion, sonic boom etc. But before I do thatI ask that you 'hear me out' so to speak.Actually lsuppose that I'm asking what youwould do it you were in my position.

On May 23d, 1959, I had a very'up ctose andpersonal' encounter with two UFOs. Since thattime l've had a sort of 'been there, done that'attitude regarding UFOS. I don t try to convinceanyone one way or the other, but l'm alwaysvery irritated when, through someone'sstupidity, the idea that we are being visited byextraterrestrials is'debunked'. Vvhich bringsme to the green light and the shuttle. We nowknow that pieces of tile were being ripped offColumbia over the west coast, and of coursethis would be most people's explanation forthe green l;ght. I wish I could rationalize thelight away with the tile theory. l've tried. But I

16

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 1476-5314 ApriI 2003 Issue No.7

can't get my mind around this thing for severalreasons. Why was it at such a great distancefrom Columbia? V\,/hy was it closing the gapbetween itself and the shuttle? What couldhave come off Columbia at that point thatwould burn such a bright, unremitting green? And most importantly, why wasn't the greenobjecl leaving a smoke trail? lry I yeaFoldgrandson said it all when he asked, "Grandpa, what's thai green light following the shuttle?"

ln any case you'll probably see where I'mgoing with this. This is a terrible tragedy for alot of people and the world as a whole. Peopleare not in the mood for, whai they would nodoubt consider a quack, coming out of thewoodwork. So my question to you Peter is: dowe say a whole lot about this now? Oranything at all for that matter? lt would causeemotional pain to many people and badlydamage Ufology.

It occurs to me at this exact moment that youyourself might think I'm a nutcase. So for the'unofficial' record l'll tell you this. Although I

don't have a clue what the green object was, I

don't believe for a second that it was anythingfrom the Shuttle (name deleted)

I am including this repoft in our Joumal as ifhas been quite widely circulated and I have nodoubt it wi appear in othe's. AIso, it has the'ing oftrulh'about iL lt has to be said, though, that one would have expected this to berepotled from nunerous sources earlier. Bythe time lhis appears, doubtless there willhave been fuiher developments

So ran the heading to a report in Australianlnternational UFO - Flying Saucer Research.lssue 98 February 2003. Editor Colin Norris.

I am here quoting the first part of the articleprecisely as printed. The sighting itself soundsinteresting - but so are the spelling, grammarand punctuationl lMilst the intention is quitepossibly NOT to make any amendments to thewitnesses'own account as written, it wouldseem that a spelling/grammar computer checkmight have been in order. I have to say, though, that I abandoned doing this myselfafter the first NBJ lssue, when 'spellcheck' hadsaid I should call MUFON 'Muffin' andBUFORA 'Buffer'

Ed.Here it is:

would say the main big UFO'S were doing wellover and speed limit any human could livethrough. The fastest UFO had jet stream thatwas three times longer than our moon. TheUFO flew past the moon at a speed I neverseen before. Then stopped dead with outslowing down. Then we saw the second thrustfire and the UFO was doing the fasted speedI've ever seen and thing on earth. The UFOcame from the west east with the stop to themother ship. "They were all moving in some sort oforder/Mission each UFO had its own job to doonce they had finished they would fry back tothe mother and the slowly they all lefi, at onestage there were in between 50-60 UFO'S overAdelaide. Being a non-believer, lcould notbelieve what lwas seeing. Once the sunstarted to rise most of the UFOS where goneapart from about 4-6 which were straightabove us. Then the mother ship moved aboutside to side up and down 4570 round andround and within one second it was gone. Then the other UFO'S vanished too. About6.30-7.00am we noticed that planes fromAdelaide were taking off.'

There is a report also from another witness, headed 'Leon extra's', but I think the abovecovers the event. All else apart l'd have liked

The Philadelphia Experiment has been thesubjecl of at least three widely read books, notto mention a film. lt has now becomeinodricably involved with The MontaukProject, about which three books directlyconcerned with the Project itself have beenwritten, though there have been a number of'offshoots'. I first became particularlyinterested in these areas after having heardtapes of one of the main characlers involved -Al Bielek, subsequently reading the series ofbooks subscribing lo The Montauk Pulse - aquarterly newsletter devoted to the ever-changing situation in the area and associatednews and views in general, also being in directcommunication with Peter Moon of Sky Books,co-author of the 'Montauk' series with PrestonNichols. Peter has kindly given me permissionto quote extensively from these where directquotes are the most appropriate way ofrelating a particular occurrence.

Neither the Philadelphia Experiment nor theMontauk Projecl have been officially admittedto have occurred or existed, so it will be up toyou, the reader, to make up your own mind asto whether they did or they didn't. I'd suggestthat after reading what I have to say aboutboth of these in this, and maybe two furthe.Joumal instalments, thal you read the full storyfor yourselves - appropriate book details willbe given at the end of each instalment. Myown opinion is that they DID occur, though I

have some reservations as to lhe extent oftheir being factual in specific areas - asindeed, has Peter Moon himsell Just as I amdoing here, in the books he presents thepossible/probable occurrences for you todecide yourself on the extent to which all thefacets of both Experiment and Project arefaclual. Details of books and other referenceswill be found at the end ofthis article

First - The Philadelphia Experiment

The USS E/dr?ge, 1943

Charles Berlitz, in his first book about thisExperiment, The Philadelphia Expeiment -Project lnvisibility - tells us that, according toone version of the occurrence, on August 12rh.1943, a United States NaW destroyer escortwas caused, by a series of magneticmanifeslations, to vanish temporarjly and thento reappear at another olace. The place fromwhere it vanished was Philadelphia,Pennsylvania; where it reappeared wasNorfolk, Virginia - a distance of over 150miles. vvhen the process was .eversed and itwas again to be seen back in Philadelphia, there had been deleterious effecls on crewmembers who manned the disappearing craftand whose psychological afrer-effecls, and insome instances deaths, caused furtherexperimenlation to be abandoned. I'll return tothis from another angle later in the article.Early on in his book, BerliE relates how Dr.Morris Jessup, who, in 1955, wrote the bookThe Case for the UFO, began to receiveletters from a 'Carlos Miguel Allende' alsoknown as CarlAllen. ln the main, these wereconcemed with how The PhiladelphjaExperiment originated -allegedly, as also withother sources, from Einstein's Unified FieldTheory - and with its results.

There were a large number of such lettersfrom Allende, but, whilst they were prettycomprehensive on the subjec't, they were alsoat times very rambling. Allende, or Allen, proved to be an elusive character and wasnever definitely identified to everyone'ssatisfaction, so, apart from one quote tromhim, I shall be referring to accounts from

20

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 14?6-5314 April 2003 Tssue No.7

known witness claimants and from otherauthors who wrote about Philadelphia andlater, Montauk. This one quote, from anAllende letter in 1956, concerned theExperiment itself - I'll give the background tohow the experiment was developed in amomenl from a different source, but this iswhat Allende said concerning the effec{s oftheoccurrence.

He writes: "The result was the completeinvjsibility of a ship, destroyer type and all ofits crew. The magnetic field surrounding it waseffective in an oblate spheroidal shapeextending more or less one hundred yards outfrom each beam of the ship. Any person withinthat sphere became vague in form and sawothers aboard the ship as being in the samestate, as though they were walking on nothing.Any person within that sphere could seenothing except the clearly defined shape oftheship's hull in the watei. He goes on to say -bear in mind this was written in 1956 -'half ofthe officers and the crew of that ship are atpresent, mad as hatters. A few are stillconfined to cerlain areas where they either'GoBlank' or'Go-blank and get stuck'. \Men aman'gets stuck' he cannot move of his ownvolition unless two or more of those not withinthe field go and touch him quickly, else he'freezes'. This is the result of a hyper-field setup within the field ofthe body."

OK. I'll stop there and take us through thewhole thing from the beginning.

lf we like, we can blame it all on Einstein, for itapparently originated with his Unified FieldTheory for Gravitation and Electricity publishedin the late 1920s. This has been described as,"a theory that encompasses the fourfundamental interactions - strong, weak, eleclromagnetic and gravitational - in terms ofa single field, analogous to the electro-magnetic or gravitational fields". With theassistanc€ of other well-known names such asWilhelm Reich, Nicola Tesla and VonNeuman, during the early years of the SecondWorld War they and others were involved in aProject known as Project Rainbow. This wasthe forerunner of today's 'Stealth' technology, and was designed as a top-secret project to

discover a technique to make a ship invisibleto enemy radar. This was to be done bycreating an 'electro-magnetic bottle' whichactually diverted radar waves around the ship.

It would seem that an 'electro-magnetic bottle'changes the entire electro-magnetic fleld of aspecitic area - in this case the fieldencompassing the ship - the USS E/drdgeand its crew that were the subject of theexperiment. There had been an earlier test inJuly, which showed there were problems.

Now, whilst the object of the exercise was tosee if a ship could be made invisible to radar,it had the totally unexpecied and drastic effectof making the ship also invisible to the nakedeye. ln fact, it is alleged that it was temporarilyremoved from our spac€-time continuum, theship reappearing in Norfolk, Virginia, beforeagain returning to Philadelphia, the wholething taking place in something less than 20minutes.

From a material standpoint it could be said tohave been a success, but it was a catastropheto the people involved. Some of the crew wereeven found to be embedded in the steelwork, into the bulkheads of the E/drdge itsef andalmost all were in a state of completedisorientation. The crew were subsequentlydischarged as 'mentally unfit afrer havingspent considerable time in rehabilitation, suahstatus making it very convenient for theirstories to be discredited. lt was believed thatthe ship had, for some minutes, been removedfrom our own space-time continuum altogetherand, having no familiar surroundings to relateto, the crew literally went mad.

This put the Rainbow Projec{ at a standstill, since, although a major breakthrough hadoccurred there was no certainty that humanbeings could survive furtherexperimentalion.

However, the vast research that began withthe Rainbow Project was, apparently, resumedin the late '1940s culminating with a hole beingripped through space-time at Montauk in 1983.This claim lwill come to in due course, but itwould seem two of those most prominent inthis later Montauk Project were also directlyconcerned with the Philadelphia Experiment

21

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 1476-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

itself, ior lhey were in a protected area in thecontrol room ol the Eldidqe and managed toescape from the ship by diving overboard. lnfacl, it seems they dived into another llMEalso, but this is how those two - Edward andDuncan Cameron - came to be involved wilhthe Rainbow Projecl and to be on the USSEldridge.

Here, I'll go right back to beginnings. Earlier I

wrote that, if we wanted to, we could blame ltall on Einstein in the 1920s, but the history ofthe whole thing goes back even earlier thanEinstein - bac.k to 1912. when amathematician named David Hilbert developedseveral different methods of new math. One ofthese was known as'Hilbert Space'with whichhe developed equations for multiple realjtiesand multiple spac€s. ln 1926 he met Dr. JohnVon Neumann. Von Neumann took Hilbert'swork on from lhere - he was one of fewpeople who could take abstract theoreticalconcepts and apply them mathematically tophysical situations.

Serious research into invisibility began in the1930s at the University of Chicago. Here, theDean, Dr. John Hutchinson, an Austrianphysicist Dr. Kurtenhauer and Nikola Teslatogether studied the nature of relativity andinvisibility. ln 1933, the invisibility study wastransferred to Princeton University and thegroup was joined by Albert Einstein and Johnvon Neumann.

ln 1936, Tesla was made Director of the groupand partial invisibility was achieved before theend of that year. By 1941, Tesla had full high-level backing. A ship was procured on hisbehalf and he had coils wrapped around theentire ship. He believed his invisibilityexperiments would be completely successful, but wanted as much time as he could tocomplete the experiment because he felt thatthe crew would be severely affecled bothmentallyand physically.

Tesla's area of knowledge embracedlretaphysics, but Von Neumann's didn't andthey were in constant disagreement.

Tesla, though brilliant was alwayscontroversial, since, both in 1900 and 1926 hehad claimed that off-planet intelligences hadcontacted him via signal messages from Mars- which didn't exactly endear him to thescientilic community!

Tesla leff the operation in March 1942 anddied in 1943. Von Neumann was madeDirector of theProject. He determined that twohuge generators would be required for theinvisibility experiment.

The keel of the USS E/dr?ge was laid in July1942. Then, later that year, Von Neumannrevised his opinion and agreed with Tesla thatthe experiment could be fatal to people, butdecided a third generator would do the trick. One was built, but it never synchronised withthe other two. Neumann's superiors theninsisted that the experiment go ahead withonly two generators despite Neumann'sprotests.

So, on July 20'h, 1943, they decided it wasready and made the first test. Naval officersDuncan Cameron, Jnr. and his brother -Edward Cameron - remember these names -were in the control room to operate it. \Men itwas turned on, 15 minutes of invisibilityensued.

But there were immediate problems withpersonnel. They experienced nausea andthere was also mental disorientation. Moretime was needed, but the Chief of NavalOperations gave a final deadline of August12"' 1943 fot the actual operation and VonNeumann tried to modify his equipment so thatonly radar invisibility would be achieved, notliteral sight invisibility.

It is alleged that six days before this final teston the Eldridge, three UFOS appeared overthe ship, being seen at times on and off priorto the experiment.

22

New BUFORA JournalISSN: 14?6-5314 April 2003 Issue No.7

on August 12'h 1943, the switch was thrownfor this final test. lt seems that two of theUFOS left the area, whilst the other wassucked up into hyperspace and ended up in anunderground facility at Montauk - which, again, I shall be examining later.

Reports from the Cameron brothers suggestedthat things would go wrong. However, for 3 or4 minutes, things looked good and it appearedthere might not be any devastating effects. They could see the outline of the ship - ithadn't disappeared. Suddenly, however, therewas a blue flash and everything was gone. The radio mast and transmitter were broken.People were jammed in the bulkheads. Otherswere walking around in an insane state.

Nevertheless, Duncan and Edward Camerondidn't suffer any lrauma. They were shielded inthe gengrator room that was surrounded bysteel bulkheads, the steel acting as a shield tothe Radio-Frequency energy. As theywitnessed things falling apan, they tried toshut off the generator and transceivers, butwere unsuccessful. Now, what follows fromhere is obviously extremely controversial andone has to put the word 'alleged' in front ofeverything, but you will see why The

Philadelphia Experiment and the base atMontauk are pretty well inextricably mixed.

It is claimed that at the same time - with 'time'in inverted commas, another experjment wasgoing on 40 years later - in 1983. Researchhad revealed that the Earth, like humans, hasa biorhythm. These biorhythms peak out everyyear on August 12"'. This coincided withAuqust 12'n 1983 and provided an additionalfunclion for the connecling links through theEarth's field for the USS E/dridge to be pllledinto hyperspace.

Back in 1943, the Cameron brothers could notturn off the equipment on lhe Eldidgebecause it was linked through time to thegenerator at Montauk, though they didn't thenknow that. They decided it was unsafe to stayon the ship and so jumped overboard in hopesof escapjng its electro-magnetic fleld.

They jumped and found themselves pulledlhrough a 'time tunnel and onto dry ground atMontauk on August '12'h 1983 at night.Montauk is in New York State, incidentally, and I'll be covering that area very tully in thesecond instalment. They were tound quicklyand taken downstairs.

Von Neumann met Duncan and Edward andindicated he knew they were coming. However, it was now 1983 and he was an oldman. Once again, can lemphasise that thewords'claimed' or'alleged' have to be takenas read all the time, though, as you'll seewhen we come to Montauk, the whole thingDOES hang together and who, indeed, cansay what is possible and what is NOT?

This js what is stated then happened. The twomain presenters of these accounts, incidentally, are Preston Nichols and PeterMoon, the former having worked on theMontauk Project himsell

They tell us that Von Neumann (in 1983) saidthere had been a lock up in hyperspace andhe'd been waiting sinc€ 1943 for this date. Hetold the time iravellers that technicians atMontauk were unable to shut things down.Duncan and Edward were required to go backto 1943 to shut the generator off. Neumann

23

New BUFORA JournallSSN: 1476-5314 Aprit 2003 Issue No.7

even said that historical records showed theyHAD turned it off. But they hadn't done it yetlHe also told them to destroy any equipmentthere if necessary.

There were time tunnels at Montauk, with sidelunnels off them, and, apparently, beforereturning to '1943 for good, the brothers didother missions back to 1943, during one ofwhich they met with a group of aliens from aside tunnel. You may recall that one of theUFOS said to have been seen above theEldidge ended up in lhe Montauk facility. ltseems these aliens wanted the return of aninstrument lhat charged the crystral drive totheir craft. Duncan and Edward obtained thisfor them, then returned to the USS E/drdgeand carried out Von Neumann's instructions.Back in 1943, they smashed generators, transmitters and cut all cables. The E/dridge,which had been transported from Philadelphiato Norfolk, then returned to Philadelphia

Up to now l've mainly been concerned with thePhiladelphia Experiment, at the same timeshowing how it becomes intertwined with theMontauk Project. Now let's get on to TheMontauk Project itsen First, then, to recapvery briefly the history of the Cameronbrothers and what they believe happened tothem when the Philadelphia experiment wentwrong, then to get on to the Montauk facilityand what is said to have gone on there. As I

go along, you \''ill, I hope, see how the wholething slots together. There is a fairly largeamount of circumstantial evidence to supportwhat is claimed, bul obviously 'hard' evidenceis very difficult to obtain.

So - a brief history of the Cameron brothers,as related by Al Bielek, who has been givingtalks on his claimed experiences in connectionwith both Philadelphia and Montauk for lhe last'10 years or more:

Al Bielek tells us that he was born on August4n 1916 as Edward cameron ll, son ofAlexander Duncan Cameron. His futherenlisted in the US Navy prior to the US entry inWorld War One. He had the two sons -Edward in 1916 and Duncan in 1917, but theywere by different mothers, so they were half-

brothers. Edward went to Princeton University, later to Harvard and obtained a degree inPhysics. Duncan crossed the Allantic andobtained a degree in Physics at EdinburghUniversity in 1939.

ln September 1939, both enlisted in the USNavy with commissions as Lieutenant andwere sent to a'Training School' for 'SpecialAssignment Personnel' at Providenc€, Rhodelsland. They were then assigned directly ontothe ongoing'Project lnvisibility'. The projeclwas renamed 'Projecl Rainbow' and theystayed with it.

ln January 1941 they were on sea duty on theUSS Pernsylvanra. ln 1942 they continuedwork on Projecl Rainbow. Tesla dropped out in1942 and was replaced by Von Neumann. They both remained through 1943 during thetwo tests with lhe Eldtidge, the second ofwhich, as we've seen, was a total disaster.Duncan disappeared, though he was to turnup in later years. Edward stayed with the Navyand married in late 1943. He was transferredto New Mexico in 1944 and stayed there till1947.

Now, here's where things become reallycontroversial. Edward was, he says, transferred to Montauk military base, where hewas time shifted ahead in time to 1983 in the'Phoenix Projecl'. Once there, he wasbrainwashed and memorigs removed. He wasalso subsequently age-regressed to a physicalage of 1 back in 1927 into a new family as asubstitute for a lost son. This new family - theBieleks - became his parents and he wasknown, as he is now, as Al Bielek. ComeWorld War ll, he was draffed into the Navy asa seaman in 1945 to1946. He then followed acareer as an eleclronics engineer until 1988,when he retired following a memory recall ofhis involvement with the various MontaukProjecls. This included meeting again with hishalf-brother, Duncan, who had also been thesubjecl of time and body manipulations.

These details are necessary for laterclarification, but now to the Montauk Baseitself - and to what is alleged to have gone onthere.

24

New BUFORA JournallSSN: 1476-5314 Aprif 2003 Issue No.7

First. its location. This is at the easternmostend of Long lsland, which in turn is some 70mibs from the easternmost suburbs of NewYork City. The general area is extremelyscenic and Montauk itself is a tourist town -with its own website, incidentally. At MontaukPoint, there is a lighthouse. To the immediatewest of the lighthouse there is a mysteriousex- Air Force base on the grounds of old FortHero.

The base was officially decommissioned andabandoned by the US Air Force in 1969, but itwas subsequently re-opened and continued tooperate without the sanction of the USgovernment until August '1983 when it wasagain closed down. lt remained so for anumber of years when refurbishment wasagain commenced. There are now (2003), I

understand, no above-ground buildingsremaining, though considerable below-groundactivity is suspected. Most of the above-ground area is now open to the public. lfunderground activity lS continuing, it may besigniflcant in view ofAugust 2003 not being faroff - a peak of the Earth's biorhythmic cycle. However, no government funding at all can betraced for the base since 1969, though militaryand Navy personnel were known to guard thesite. Senators and US Government oflicialshave tried to find this out on a number ofoccasions but have come up against a brickwall. That much is definitely fact. And it is fairlyobvrous that SOMETHING unusual was goingon there. But what?

My information here comes largely fromPreston Nichols and Peter Moon. both of whohave written much on the subject. Preston, infact, claims to have regained his memories ofthe project in a similar way to Al Bielek, aftervisiting lvlontauk and being recognised ashaving managed a Montauk project by anumber of people he met when he wasinvestigating the Montauk facility in early 1984and laterwhen it was derelict.

It may well be of interesl also, that anotherperson known to have been an ofllcer atMontauk in the early days before it was closeddown and who is stated to have been involved, and who DID work for US Navy intelligence

was L. Ron Hubbard, the founder ofScientology. lt is believed that Scientology is.so to speak, a 'watered-down' version of someofthe techniques employed at Montauk.

A brief description here of what the Montaukbase looked like after it was abandoned in1983 until quite rec€ntly when, as said, muchof the area has now come into the publicdomain. The main description immediatelyafter 1983 was that the base, although acaretaker was in residence in a small building, was derelict- lt covered quite a large area, but, what had clearly been a computer controlcentre, a radar centre, offic€ buildings andliving quarters were all completely derelicl andunused. One thing that remained relativelyunscathed was the transmitter building with areally huge radar reflector atop it, its length aslong as a footballfield.

ln the first book of the 'Montauk' series - fheMontauk Expeiment. Expeiments in Time',Preston Nichols tells us how his interest inMontauk was first kindled.

"ln 1971, I began working for a well knowndefense contractor on Long lsland. Throughthe years lgot a degree in electricalengineering and became a specialist inelectromagnetic phenomena. I was not thenaware of the Philadelphia Experiment or itsac4ompanying phenomena".

Preston was given a grant to study mentaltelepathy; in fact he at tirst sought to disproveit, but instead discovered a 'telepathic wave',not all of whose propedies would fit intonormal wave functions and through thisbecame interested in metaphysics: he thencollaborated with a number of psychics tocheck out their responses to this'telepathicwave'. He goes on to tell us:

"ln '1974, I noticed a peculiar phenomenon thatwas common to all the psychics I worked with.Every day, at the same hour, their mindswould be jammed. They couldn't lhinkeffectively. Whenevet a 410-420 MHz(Megahertz) cycle appeared on the air, theywere jammed. When the 410-420 MHz cyclewas off, the psychics would open back up afterabout 20 minutes."

25

As it was clear it was this particular signal thatinterfered with the psychic abilities of lhe'sensitives', Preston decided to locale it.

"Placing a modified TV antenna on the roof ofmy car I grabbed a VHF receiver and set outlooking for the source of it. ltracked it right toMontauk Point. lt was coming directly from ared and white antenna on the Air Force Base"

Almost since'Flying Saucers'came into thescheme of things back in 1947, there havebeen 'flaps' - periods when a parlicularcountry or area of that country hasexperienced a high density of reports of alldescriptions. The Fort Beaufort incident on June 26 sparkedoff a sizeable UFO tlap. Reports dated prior tothis only came to light as a direct result of theBennie Smit report. Firstly I must say that FSRhas done an excellent job in cataloguing therepods. Would that it was easier for (and therewas more contacl with) investigators in thisvast area. Nevertheless, we are indebted tothose who have kind'y sent newspaperclippings from which, in common with FSR, weare obliged to obtain the majority of ourinformation. This string of reports from SouthAfrica commenced in June 1972 andcontinued to the end of August, thenrecommenced with a new 'classic' inNovember. The information that has reachedus is probably only the tip of an iceberg.

I present here in chronological order all reportsreceived to date (Dec 1972). Where they havealready appeared in FSR, I give the referencenumber allotted by FSR and only a very briefsummary plus any fresh details. 4ll_CAIeS_!gb!to 1972. C.D.O-H.

"'All that was left was a smoke trail. Later itreappeared from behind a tree and keptchanging colour. When I first looked jt was abig, red ball, but now it was green and itsuddenly changed to a yellowish-white.'

"'l was shocked and telt this thing could bedangerous. I hurried back to the house to fetchmy.303 rifle and phoned the police. lwentback to the spot and fired several shots. I amsure my eighth shot hit it, as I heard a thud. ltmoved up and down and disappeared behindthe trees again.'

'About 1oam Warrant Officer P.R. VanRensburg, the Fort Beaufort stationcommander and Sgt. P. Kitching arrived.

'W Van Rensburg continues lhe story: 'AfterMr. Smit and Sgt. Kitching had fired a coupleof shots in the direction of the ball of fire, wesaw a round, black, shiny ob)ed about 2y2feet in diameter emerge from behind a tree. ltslowly disappeared from sight and thenreappeared. Shots fired had no effect, butwhen anyone approached it shied awaybehind the bushes.'

'Mr Smit then moved into the thick bush. Hecarried a stick with a white handkerchief tied toit so the police could keep track of hismovements. Mr. Smit told me: "Suddenly I sawit about 20 yards away, now greyish-white. I

fired two quick shots, but with a loud whirringnoise it veered otf over lreetops, cutting a paththrough the foliage. lt disappeared quicklyfrom sight."

"'He has been closest to it - about 50m. I don'tdoubt that he, and two experienced policeofficers saw the object.'

"'Mr. Smit stood yesterday in his newly-plantedfield of lucerne - a powerful, cheerful, practicalman - and convinced me he had seen andheard something perplexing but palpable.Dozens of other people in Fort Beaufort claimto have seen it as well on numerous occasionssjnce Mr.Smit flrst reported it to the police.'

The trees behind which the object moved wereabout 7m high (Sfar, Tues. June 27).According to Mr. Smit, the objecl was movingslowly while all 15 shots were fired, but itscourse was unaffecled. Also, "When itdisappeared in the dense bush we could hearit crashing through the undergrowth, but whenwe followed we could see no sign of itspassage.' (Sunday lrbune, July 2\.

An intervie\/ with Mr. Smit in lhe Rand Dailyl4ail, July I (afrer he had been shown a phototaken at Port Elizabeth on the evening of July6) reported his views as follows:

Mr. Smit, a down-to earth plumber from EastLondon, said he was completely convinced theUFO was not an oulof-lhis-world spacecraft.Humans made the UFO - I saw it in daylightand it is definitely manmade - and, he isconvinced, it has a base on his farm. "l'mgoing to catch it', he vowed seriously.

Further soil samples were analysed by Mr C.S.Kingsley, a lecturer on the Dept. of Geology atFort Hare University. According to him, theyare'definitely not animal or human imprints'.The nature of marks in the imprints and also oftheir surface suggested metal rather thansomething sofl and fleshy. (Sfar 5 July). Did UFO rip up a tennis court?Sun Nov l2 2100-2130 Middelburg Cape

About 9.00 pm or 9.30 pm, policemen watcheda strange, brightly coloured, glowing objectthrough binoculars. lt appeared to changecolours and its shape varied fiom circular toelliptical. lt travelled towards Rosmead, hovered over a hill behind the Rosmead HighSchool, and then disappeared. Later, itreappeared for a short while before flnallydisappearing. The principal of Rosmead HighSchool, lvlr. Harold Truter, also saw a beam'like a searchlight' in the sky.

The following morning it was discovered thatthe school's tar-surfac€d tennis courts hadbeen severely damaged. Huge chunks of tarhad been gouged out. Lumps were foundcaught high up in the tennis court fence.Pieces were found near where it is thought theUFO hovered, about 30 meters from the courl.Large chunks, 3 or 4 metres wide were foundon top of the almost vertical face of a nearbyhill or'kopje'.

Hundreds of sightseers flocked to the sceneon Monday. The District Commander of theMiddelburg police, Lieutenant-Colonel B.J.Van Heerden reported the matter, through hisdivisional head offlce at Oudtshoorn, toheadquarter in Pretoria and asked for aninvestigation. Middelburg is 160km. from FortBeaufort.

A tree next to the tennis court is reported tohave started to die. lt is a big bluegum andshows signs of scorching. Theories that theripping of chunks of tar from the tennis courtwas the work of a gas explosion werediscounted because no trees in the vicinitywere damaged.

Sinc€ hearing about the damage to the courts, four military trainees guarding the petroldumps 400 meters away have madestatements to the poljce that they saw .edlights on the courts. 'lt looked as il someone ina car without headlights, but with tail-lightsburning, was riding round in circles on thetennis court', they said. 'The lightsdisappeared and then the whole petrol dumpwas illuminated with a strange, incandescentlight.' (Rard Daily Mail Nov 14 and Nov 18.Cape limes Nov 14.)

TEMS TALK SUMMARY

TEMS Meeting on 23 February 2003

The speaker was Guy Lyon Playfair, stillremembered for his book on the EnfieldPoltergeist. His topic was telepathy betweentwins. Usually for telepathy to work, therecipient has to be in a relaxed state of mind. The problem is only bad messages - traumas -emergency messages get picked up. For mostof us, we might experience telepathy once ortwice in a lifetime. On the other hand, somemothers with new babies have almost a24-hour link!

Nol all identical twins experience telepathy! But for those that do, some report physical

sensations, even physical marks, on theirbodies. We were shown a video from theRichatd and Judy Show, where one twin waswired up to a polygraph in a separate studio. Aneedle on the polygraph moved sharply, eventhough the 'wired' twin did not know what washappening to his brother. The word 'telepathy'was first used about 1882, and in 1884 a novelcalled The Corsican Brothers by Dumas, focused on this.

Strangely, very little research has been doneon telepathy between twins since then. NorrisMcwhirter slumped into a chair and lookeddazed for no apparent reason on 27November 1975. At that moment in time, at hisown home, IRA terrorists shot his twin brotherRoss Mcvlhirter in the head. ln 1997, PaulMcKenna did a TV programme involving foursets of female twins. Three sets producedfairly convincing results. The scientiticexplanation for telepathy is still out there, butfor it to work a strong empathy is requiredbetween the sender and receiver. Also thesender needs a powerful stimulus. lt issuggested the answer lies deep in quantumphysics and is related to a key prediction.,lled non-localw. This is a sort of mentalwormhole
