Dessert Storm

here are few spots around town that encourage lazi- ness so bikini clad ladies can soak up judgment-free relax-ation along the lazy river at the Oasis Pool at Casino Morongo. Even with a desert backdrop the locale snaps up the title of “tropical pool,” as it quietly hides behind a lush South Pacific garden.

The sandy beach pool marks a perfect place for sipping procured cocktails from the bar and the multi-tiered Jacuzzi is where the lazy girl can unwind with a glass of wine. There’s no doubt that your milkshake will bring all the boys to the yard, but if it’s a “girl’s only” kind of party, keep the boys out by snagging a private cabana for you and your crew.

Haute and FaithReading your horoscope might provide plenty of daily insight on who to avoid in the office, but chances are you’re not getting the details on whom to sidle up to by the pool. That’s when you need to put your faith in the love goddess and make your way the ultra hot Venus Pool Club at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Sure you could opt for Rehab, but the truth is inebriated ragers are so last year and so not your style. The place channels the serenity of the gods laden with columns, oversized plush white chaises throughout, signature frozen cocktails and sleek beats all set underneath the vast desert sky. Go diva with your girls and kick back in your

own private digs. Nosh on fresh fruit or sip on Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label, because it’s what any aspiring goddess would do. So a jet to Vegas isn’t really your idea of beating the heat, but when there’s an Evian spritz, frozen towels and poolside rub downs, you can’t turn down this Sin City treasure. This is real love. Thanks Venus.

The favored spa offers the much revered cabana above Café Sole. Look down upon your“subjects” if the semi private, air-conditioned havens make you feel like royalty or kick back in the Terrace Spa. Perfect for bridal or baby showers and birthday soirees, this is the piece de resistance after a long massage under the one-hundred year old Oak trees. Too bad you have to learn the hard way.

Ivy League

Most coeds learn life’s valuable lessons when they venture off to college. But you didn’t have to stroll the halls Harvard to learn that laying

out yields the best results after a body treatment. This is the summer where IE broads can get privy to such teach-ings at Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa in Corona.

I Pledge AllegianceExercise your right to respectable lounging. Wet Republic at MGM Mi-rage gets the vote as Sin City’s first official “Ultra Pool,” coming in at 53,000 square feet. Finding a spot to brush up on your bronze shan’t be too difficult with a 4,100 square foot sundeck. The state of this union features oversized chaise lounges, two extra large saltwater pools (no chlorine green for those beach blond-ies), ten party cabanas, eighteen water lounges, VIP bungalows and a space for live entertainment.

Salute your colors, bright South Beach hues—emerald green, turquoise and canary—if you’re seeking indepen-dence from the norm. When the desert sun gets to be a bit much you might opt for a dip, but fret not sweet citizen, the tunes don’t stop, because even when fully submerged the sublime sounds of Kaskade, Benny Benassi still come through underwater. Looking for a place to see and be seen? Elect Wet Republic, a candidate who’s down for the cause no matter what your party.

he only pool around that boasts an, “outdoor living room lounge,” the Riviera’s “hot

spot” features two bars, six cozy caban-as (complete with flat LCDs and top shelf bottle service), over 50 rums and tequilas from around the world and sophisticated bites. The first of the two, the Bikini Bar, the ultra-hip space with signature cock-tails like the Blue Cucumber (a salacious mix of Stoli Blueberry , cucumber juice and fresh fruit) and the Strawberry Fields (100% Agave Tequila and fresh berries), sets the tone for an afternoon of glamourama. Get decked out and brush up on your bronze glow or chat it up with other par layers; the layout of the space is ideal for mixing and mingling. Sidebar is the sexy cousin to Bikini Bar that’s a post dip must. A marble bar is where you go for carefully crafted libations—house made tonic with gin or Brand New Old Fashioned. Take in the seductively chic atmosphere.

Afternoon Chic Out

Laced with fire bits and opulent Oasis beds, by night the Riviera pool becomes a white-hot fete with hot tunes from popular L.A. Djs, comfy over-sized futons and breathtaking views of the desert landscape.

Palm Sun Day

Paradise isn’t as far as you think. Imagine three acres of climate-con-trolled gaming, bars and decadent waterfalls, world-famous deejays spinning and free-flowing signa-tures cocktails. And when you ‘re needing to pray to the sun gods in private, give you thanks in one of the VIP cabanas or two-story bungalows (complete with sleeping quarters). Theses beachy bungalows are not for the weak in spirit as they’re outfit-ted with a private privy, king size beds with stage views and the pièce de résistance—an outdoor Jacuzzi. Amid this lush locale are chaise lounges for scoping out the beaus and a menu to boot. Not the cuties

are being served up on platters, but delectable bites inspired by N9NE Steakhouse arrive in time to satisfy carnal desires. Nosh on savory items like the Maine Lobster Club, the Garbage salad or the acclaimed Barry Burger (the carnivorous creation of Exec Chef Barry Dakake) or just give way to the “holy spirits”—moji-tos, ‘ritas, premium tequilas are heavenly makings, after all. Tie your bikini strings, put on your Diors and rest easy, you’ve made it to the Promised Land.

Look in the MiraThis year’s budget won’t allow for that week-long vacay along the Mediterranean? That’s noth-ing, sweets. Perfectly situated against the Santa Rosa Mountains is a Tuscan-inspired villa is awaiting your arrival. Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells is the spot that’s dripping with Euro-charm. From sweet spouting Italian fountains to tranquil piazzas throughout, a luxurious spa, villas delicately outfitted with bougain-villea and a pool designed for sunny-side worship. The resort’s Signature Pool is the ultimate lounging spot complete with lazy day lounge chairs, cozy daybeds and private cabanas. Whatever suits your need will afford you delightful views of the sparkling pool and its breathtaking natural backdrop. More pool for your penny is easy to come by should you make your way over to the Piedmont pool where “se-renity” is the name of the game (for adult guests only). As with any good splash scene, Miramonte pools offer a bevy of beverages and tasty “by the water bites.” Here, hot tubs, sundecks and saunas are only the beginning. Molto Bene!

Bare at the MGM Mirage. Separating itself

DreamsicleLewis Carrol said, “Life is but a dream.” M Resort is here to correct the literary legend. Life is but a Daydream thanks to the resort’s luxe-heavy pool club. Bask in the sun’s glory and revisit that quintessential Vegas night you had. Dish and debrief with your girls at the ice-railed bar or the infin-ity pool. With 12,000 square feet, you’ll find a station that was made for sunshine gossip. The reality is brought to you by the creators of Blush nightclub and offers all of the same kind of chic.

Catering to the locals, but friendly to the visitors, the pool club is all about service offering a boutique expe-

rience that’s not found at some of the other aqua-wonderlands. Say farewell to the crowds and don’t worry about seeing the guy from last night at this pool—your secrets and your dreams are safe here.

Life’s a Beach Surf and sand won’t cut it this summer, but an exotic-aquatic atmosphere might do the trick. That’s when you get tricked out and make your way to the Tao Beach at the Venetian. With the bar already raised and fully stocked, Tao Beach brings exclusivity and sophistication to the

bikini-clad set. The weekly Sunset Sessions keep the chill vibe going from Sunday morning until it’s time to come back home. Score a poolside massage, (Canyon Ranch style), by a skilled masseuse, sip on signature cocktails and delectable eats from Tao Grill or make it an afternoon of celeb-spotting. This high-energy pool event keeps the party going, but maintains a savvy vibe. Want some private time? Then slip into a cabana that’s laced with a pre-programmed ipod, an LCD, icy towels, a full-stocked fridge and fresh fruit. The Asian-inspired scene is covered with daybeds to match the beautiful bods upon them. And when you’ve got a case of “Saturday night fever” hang at Tao Beach for the pool light show and the 14 foot fire columns. Perhaps you’ll spark up a lil romance. Life’s not so bad after all. 6,000 Reasons to look HOT… at the Peach

Many seasons and thousands of de-signs later, Fresh Peaches of Rancho Cucamonga is home to a breathtak-ing 6,000 swimsuits displayed within a 6,500 square foot enclave of figure flattering styles. From skimpy bikinis to plus-size tankinis and in fabrics that appeal to any taste, even the most discern-ing diva will meet her match in a bling’d out number studded with Swarovski crystal rhinestones… Now that’s Style!

12033 Jack Benny Drive, Suite 101, Rancho Cucamonga, CA (909) 980-0172 www.fresh-peaches.com

Fresh Peaches had its start about thirty years ago when the owner, Janette Love, moved her family to a new neighborhood in Rancho Cucamonga. She wanted her daugh-ter Lannette to look cute running through the sprinklers in the front yard. So she sat down at her sew-ing machine in the garage and made matching mother/daughter swimsuits. Neighbors started asking if she would sew suits for them and their daughters. Janette soon became “The bathing suit Lady?”

Most people complain that getting a perfect swimsuit at retail outlets is next to impossible; the bottom may fit fine while the top is com-pletely wrong, or vice versa. The overwhelm-ing majority of women, who don’t have fashion magazine figures, welcome forgiving styles that flater their curves or hide their flaws. Some swimsuit seekers have searched beach side cities for the perfect suite for years before stumbling across a hidden piece of swimsuit heaven in Rancho Cucamonga.

Fresh Peaches makes customized suites for any body type. No matter how dangerous you think your curves

may be, you’re a fitting away from perfec-tion. This sweet Peach has customized suites for dancers, body builders and anyone who wants a suit for a special occasion. Whole wedding parties have been outfitted!

Spa’d On Treatment

The spa, headed up by Lisa Luna, is committed to excellence and young beautiful faces. You’ll be a bombshell in no time and that’s a (Eucalyptus) wrap.

Located at 3700 Van Buren Blvd. #106. Riverside, CA. 951.351.8696. www.dermaspaskincare.com

There was a time when a “me day,” meant gathering up all of your drugstore goodies, go-

ing into mom’s bathroom (because it was bigger than yours) and treating yourself to an hour or two of avo-cado masks, freshly polished toes, elbow scrubs and more. Times are a changin’. A“me day,” in this day means booking a treatment at Riverside’s hidden paradise— Der-maSpa. The serene space just off of Van Buren employs only top products to get you gussied; from Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup to Demalogica, Vivant and Cosmedix, this sophisticated staff are the know-it-alls of skin and beauty. The ideal afternoon could mean getting ready for your close-up with a Red Carpet Facial—a fire & ice microdermabrasion fit for a star, a designer-style peel, X-treme lash extensions, teeth whitening, a mani or even a coveted Sun FX airbrush tan. Self-inflicted and often dangerous peels are a thing of the past—much like signs of aging at DermaSpa.

When you’ve had enough of smelling acrylic and chaos of

your average nail salon, make your way over to Orchard Nail Spa in Corona. A chit chat and cell-phone-free zone, Orchard affords a gabbing girl like yourself some quiet time with relaxing spa tunes spilling out of the speakers, a soothing interior and a calm essence that looms through-out. Owners Thomas Irwin and Alex Hanshaw have dubbed this hand and foot paradise, “sweaky clean,” because they’re committed

to a germ-free environment. In other words this isn’t your run of the mill nail joint. Don’t expect to be greeted by nail trimmings, grimmey chairs and less-than-presentable foot basins. Settle into your spot and zen-out with favored treatments like the Almond Mani and Pedi—what’s become the spa’s signature bit. You get done up and left silky smooth after being pampered with almond based products. Flow it up with a waxing session. It is summer, after all. Or get glam with acrylic or gel nails. It’s no wonder Orchard is getting talked up around town as “the best.” You’ll get everything you want and you’ll waste not. Style Summer 2009 45Style

Like any good eco-system this place sees that sushi feeds off of a higher entity—sake. RA is the cool place to be if you want to learn a thing or two about the rice-based libation. Watch

as the floral flavors blossom with a super delish filtered sake. Ask for the Kizakura Pure if you want to catch hints of fruit and a clean finish. But then again, you are getting your drink on at RA and a little something dirty never hurt anyone. Give a girl guzzle to Sho Chiku Bai Nigori -15. That trans-lates to unfiltered, rich, sweet and pairs well with anything spicy. Sounds like your kinda guy…err drink. Skip the cosmos and catch up with your besties over a sushi and sake pairing. Café SevillaYou don’t have to remember verb conjugation to have a good time at Spanish hot spot, Café Sevilla in Downtown Riverside. The only grammatical rule to follow: excessive use of first person singular—“I.” Make sure you treat yourself to a bevy of saucy beverages like White Sangria with fruit liqueurs, the Sevilla 43—a savvy concoction of Licor 43, milk and cinnamon on the rocks or the Spanish Margatini—a classic 100% Agave ‘rita with hint of vanilla and served straight up. Reminiscent of the Old World, the rustic interior is offset by vibrant reds, cobalt blues, glorious stained glass and distressed leather seating. When you tire of casual sipping, make you way downstairs to Sevilla’s nightclub and grab your girls for a night of dancing to the latest top 40 beats on the main level , get back to the 80’s on the upper deck or shake it up with some Salsa mid-week then school everyone on what it’s like to be VIP as you cozy up at your table.

With a sparkling pendant around her neck proudly displaying her ti tle as “Mrs.,” Lauren Lusk, the bright-eyed

moto-wife of fallen Metal Mulisha freestyle motocross star, Jeremy Lusk, works the crowd. Her smile, much like the bezels in her J12 watch, lights up the room. And the peti te princess with the perfectly coiff ed ‘do and stunning black platf orms, exudes an unmatched charm as she greets guests and mingles with friends all in the name of her late husband. This “Mrs.,” is clearly no stranger to leaving a lasti ng impression.

A leading lady is revered for her works. For Lauren, being a leading lady meant honoring her “rock” as she aff ecti onately referred to Jeremy (and she his “shelter”), even in his absence. On February 24, 2009, shortly aft er the tragedy, Lauren as well as Jeremy’s friends and family banded together to create the Lusk Legacy Foundati on, an organizati on committ ed to improving safety standards in the sport of mo-tocross for both professional and recreati onal riders. The foundati on holds fast to seven core values highlighti ng everything from individuality and courage to family and camaraderie. Att ribut-ing its faith and success to its grassroots nature,

the foundati on candidly states its strength lies in, “strong parti cipati on and commitment from its members.” According to Lauren, the foundati on has just taken off and, “everyone has just been be supporti ve.”

On the coatt ails of Jeremy’s inducti on into the San Diego Hall of Fame, Pechanga Resort & Casino hosted the First Annual Lusk Legacy Foundati on Gala & Poker Tournament on April 15, 2009, where in a ballroom decked out for extreme sports royalty, notable riders and stars like Brian Deegan (founding member of Metal Mulisha), Robbie Maddison, Ronnie Faisst, Todd Pott er, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Josh Hansen, Blake “Bilko” Williams, Beau Manley and others gathered to celebrate Jeremy’s life, his passion and his undying spirit. Jeff “Ox” Kargola commented on premise of the event saying, he hopes to see, “proper metal care and protecti on on site,” while Robbie Maddison expressed the importance of, “riders being together.”

It is well-known within the industry that a large number of riders experience diffi culty when trying to obtain insur-ance policies because they are considered “high risk.” But through the diligence of the group, more riders will be able perform in safer environments, therefore making proper insurance plans easier to come by. And while non-profi t status is pending, the LLF makes it their mission to provide social, emoti onal and economic wellbeing to the rider’s family, who are oft en burdened with economic hardship during tough ti mes. With proceeds from the event intended for the LLF, event goers kicked off the evening with a No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament and a silent aucti on which showcased items from local bouti ques and salons such as Tangerine and Haute Pink Studio, snow boots, Metal Mulisha hoodies & tees and sports memorabilia including autographed riding gear from Jeremy Lusk, Brian Deegan and Nate Adams. Guest were invited to enjoy cocktails in ultra-chic VIP lounges and live music by San Diego band, Dynamite Walls.

Tables outfitted in black and gun-metal grey

with tumbleweed centerpieces surround-

ed the dance floor, ambient lighting flood-

ed the room and amidst all of the black caps, full

sleeve tattoos and ear bling ,were the ladies of

motocross--congregating together, similarly out-

fitted in short black dresses and sky-high heels,

laughing and swishing jewel-toned libations.

When they’re not sifting through the pages of Pa-

risian Vogue or keeping up with the Kardashians

for their lasts fashion inspiration, these girls are

keeping their air-happy guys grounded. Marissa

Deegan, the wife of Brian, mom of two and Lau-

ren’s BFF, described dirt bike culture as, “intense,”

sighting the biggest challenge as, “Watching them

[riders] do what they do…it’s a fast paced life.” All

of the ladies nod at the difficulty of watching their

men get on the track to defy the conventions of

gravity and society. What’s most is these women

commit to men who are, to put it nicely, living

on the edge. “Once you’re in, you’re in. This

life is crazy and bittersweet,” says Gina Mazone

girlfriend of Todd Potter. If able to describe the

lifestyle in one word, Amy Sander who’s engaged

to Aussie Robbie Maddison calls on the quintes-

sential adjective, “amazing.” But the best part of

it all says Marissa is, “Watching our husbands get

out there and succeed.”

After posing for a few photos and before being

whisked away by her girls, Lauren thinks hard

as she prepares to answer her experience as a

moto-wife. She responds by saying, “It’s a tough

spot. And my advice to any girl getting involved

with a rider is to be strong. These people are like

family. There are up’s and down’s, high highs and

low lows. There’s a lot of risk.” It’s no doubt that

Jeremy took a risk on February 10, 2009, but his

life won’t be forgotten as the LLF memorabilia

states, he’s got the “Mrs.” to keep his legend

alive. –Candace S. Abbott

“Fashion’s got the Blues” OR “Get in the Mood”In Partnership with the Art Institute of California--Inland Empire, the 909 Celebrates High Fashion at Mood Indigo

A parade of lights danced along an illuminated run-way as a white-faced juggler made his way down the stage in harlequin fashion. He was followed by three young contor-tionists whose bodies weaved, twisted, intertwined and balanced upon one another’s. A set of mysterious rope climbers seemed to fall from the sky. These figures artfully curved their torsos to the simulated sound of water drops. And as though they’d arrived fresh from a Victoria’s Secret Renais-sance fair, two skilled women danced with and swallowed violent balls of fire. This was the opening scene of the Art Institute of Califor-nia--Inland Em-pire’s first ever, Mood Indigo fashion extravaganza.

This evening of June sixth showcased an un-

paralleled experience for many onlookers and invited guests. The night kicked-off for a select few in the official VIP lounge where crisp orange and aqua hues filled the space. Velvet covered tables were situated throughout, deep blue chaise lounges made for chic and comfortable seating, while SmartWater owned the floor. Rather than asking to refill your drink, “smarty pants” (un-official moniker given to girls promoting the H20), offered up the “electro brew” with ear-to-ear smiles. When not guzzling the water, the style mavens of the I.E. sipped on an endless supply of Chardonnay and noshed on tasty bits including everything from ba-con-wrapped shrimp to delicate peaches coupled with fresh mozzarella and basil. Many of the VIPs, who were sporting their absolute best, sat back to admire the room’s cen-terpiece where seductive and upbeat belly dancing as well as a sultry rope climbing took place. And prior to the main event, the ladies had a chance to touch up their looks thanks to Jade Aveda’s Beauty Bar.

Borrowing its name from a 1930’s Duke

Ellington jazz composition, Mood Indigo was an opportunity for many first-year

students, local and globally-known designs to showcase creative, unique and cutting edge looks for the IE gal. Much of the work presented by the Art Institute students paid homage to everyone’s favorite fabric -- denim. “We wanted to create a play on words as fashion designers create moods,” said Sherry West, Academic Director of Fashion for the institute. And create a mood they did. Stu-dent, Sara Vigil, paid homage to the sophisticated and polished look of Coco Chanel with blue-black denim pala-zzo pants, which featured the oh-so-chic high-waist, coupled with an ultra-fem while ruffled blouse. Joseph Yoshimura, also a student, channeled a spirit of “warrior,” with a Kimono-inspired denim dress cut from raw denim.

The event’s fashion sponsors also came to show-off some of their latest and greatest. Miss Me Jeans proudly displayed pieces from their MM Couture line which included de-liciously

crafted chiffon blouses, edgy vests and a cream crochet top as well as their signature intricately

pocketed jeans. Affliction, brought something for the guys, with bad boy faves like cross tees, cozy, but tres sexy thermals, hoodies designed with black an-gel wings and of course, denim. Scoring major points on the runway were the unique designs of IE native, Nick. Soulful Commandoe, wowed the crowd as wax coated

jeans (made of raw denim and complimented with a genuine fox-tail), reversible flannels, pon-chos, backpacks and the signature Converse Shoe Hoodie, made their way down the catwalk. The designer himself proudly wore a creation of his own--a snakeskin teddy bear backpack and spoke with conviction when he said, “I believe in dreams.

My work just comes to me.” Too cool for school, deejays spun electo-funk and electro-pop, care-fully-created coiffetures littered the

first few rows and a Billie Holiday look-a-like perched herself among the masses. And even with all of the unmatched en-

ergy about, no atten-dee was prepared for the stellar looks brought on by fashion vet, Bebe. The retailer dazzled

on-lookers with a carefree taupe jumpsuit, 80’s stone washed cigarette jeans, corset-style top, ruffles galore, exposed zippers, a fringed mini-skirt and the ultimate

snakeskin maxi -- the “Pantha” dress. There were enough fedoras to go around, FYI.

The cloudy and rather chilly Saturday gave way to the hottest night the region has seen. Creativity shone bright

at the Mood Indigo event, while students gained a sense of the high energy, fast pace and level of commitment that is coupled with the fashion industry. According to Quyenzi Pham (fearless leader, director and CEO of Zi Productions, Inc.), “There is no other school that provides degrees in these specific areas here. There are so many creative, stylish and capable students in the Inland Empire ...These students will play a key role in bringing fashion design, retail and merchandising to not just the Inland Empire, but the fashion industry as a whole.” Hundreds of supporters made it out to “get in the Mood” that night. And there’s no doubt that they left with a greater passion and respect for the design world.

In the words of a famous fashionista, “You betta work!”
