Synopsis
Project estimating and cost control is an essential project management technique that can be utilized to
improve project performance. This course is designed to give an essence of the concepts and techniques of
project estimating and project cost control in the engineering construction. It is suitable for engineer those who
intend to gain an additional knowledge of cost management in construction project. You will learn the process to
quantify the cost of building and civil engineering works of construction by taking into account the
elements such as material, labour, plant and unit cost of the various items of works as itemized in a Bill
of Quantities or Specification of Works. The course contents are also emphasizes on theremedial action to
comply with set targets and the external factors that might influence original project costs This 2-days
intensive course is both practical and interactive, supplemented with useful course note, real-life case studies and
working examples.

About The Course Leader
Dr. SARAJUL FIKRI MOHAMED is a senior lecturer at the Department of Quantity
Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Baharu,
Johor where he specializes in Construction Management, Project Estimating and
Construction Innovation. He obtained B.Sc. in Quantity Surveying from Universiti
Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
In the year 2002, he completed his Master of Science in Construction Innovation and PhD in
Construction Management in 2006 from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. His research areas
include construction procurement, construction innovation and commercial management in
construction. Prior to this, he worked as property and construction consultant at MDA Consulting UK.
The examples of projects he was involved in are Stratford Western Relief Road (Warwickshire County
Council), William Baker Building (University of De Montfort), Airfield Business Park Market Harborough
(William Davis), and Sport Complex Building (Leicestershire County Council). He has more than 11 years
working experiences in related field.
