Sample 1

1. Can you tell me about your hometown ?

Well as you know, I have been living in Bau village for over 25 years and be lucky to observe

whole dramatic changes, together with the stream of industrialization, in my commune in some

aspects such as infrastructure, education and so on.

To be more detail, my hometown is comprised of 2 parts which are separated by the highway

leading to Noi Bai airport and we often call them simply Bau East and West depending on their

geography. And in comparison of two sides of my village, it seems to be totally different. At

that time, the West appears to grow and develop quickly than the East with a large of hostels, the

upper storey of houses as well as necessary facilities to meet the resident’s requirements while to

the East, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of traditional Vietnamese’s lifestyle with cows,

buffalos on green paddy fields only by going through tunnels under the highway…

2. What are the effects that industrialization brings back to your hometown ?

Well, It is true that everything has two sides, advantages and disadvantages and so does

industrialization.

Firstly, talking about benefits, since the introduction of Thang Long industrial park 15 years

ago, my hometown has experienced amazing changes when the standard of living raised from

day-to-day, people have more chances to do business, build houses to lease, and more important,

upgrade infrastructure with the appearance of schools, highways, modern roads, shops, markets,

necessary facilities on the ground of recreation, education and healthcare services. Obviously,

the life of my village nowadays is more convenient than previous time. For instance, i can find a

plenty of small markets surround my village in order to buy easily everyday necessities at a low

price.

Beside positive aspects that our residents have received, there are also various negative impacts.

As far as you concern, everyday factories will produce waste products as well as much waste

water coming out from them. Obviously, our river and groundwater is being affected

significantly. Moreover, everyday we use a lot of water under the ground for daily routine such

as taking a bath, washing and cooking, so on. I would certainly have to say that this water is

not only safe but also harmful to resident’s health. Therefore, my family buys clean water from

water factory located in Vong La commune instead of using directly from groundwater.

Furthermore, my father also buys a water filter machine of Kangaroo brand in order to ensure

that our family’s water for cooking must keep safe.

3. What are the negative impacts to the social life in your hometown?

It can not be denied that industrialization also affect badly to our social life, extremely to the

youth when they are easily lured into social evils. Since the Thang Long industrial park had not

built yet, my hometown was not only very peaceful but also quite. The fact is that about fifteen

years ago, you could go out without worrying about your house, even though you forgot

locking the door. Nowadays, it is contrary when our countryside attract the mixture of different

walks of life, the properties of residents are stolen everyday meanwhile the management of

committee seem to be undervalued.

4. Do you like your hometown ?

Well as far as you know, i have been living here for over 25 years. Of course, I am certainly

fond of living in my hometown and desire to spend my whole life living here. And there have

two reasons to explain for it.

The first reason I would say is that it was my ancestor’s hometown. In addition, I have been

living here for a long time. Thus, I have a plenty of good relationship with other people. In

addition, the relationships between people living in a village certainly differ from people’s

relationship living in a city. As you know, there are two Vietnamese’s idioms express what I

said. Living in a village, you often hear two sentences “Tối lửa tắt đèn có nhau” and “Bán anh

em xa mua láng giềng gần” while living in city, it is contrary, with sentence “Đèn nhà ai nhà ấy

rạng”. To be honest, the relationships of residents living in a village are more emotional and

cozier than resident’s living in a city.

Move on to the last reason. I would probably have to say to that, nowadays the life of my

hometown is more and more modern and convenient. This is due to the positive impacts of

Thang Long industrial park. My village’s economy has grown very fast since 2000 , hence a lot

of services, markets and recreational centers were established to meet daily resident’s need.

In general, the reasons that I mention above are the best explanations to make me love my

hometown
