What is IELTS?

IELTS, the international English LanguageTesting System, is designed to assess thelanguage ability of candidates who need tostudy or work where English is thelanguage of communication

IELTS is jointly managed by University ofCambridge ESOL Examinations (CambridgeESOL), British Council and IDP: IELTSAustralia. IELTS conforms to the highestInternational Standards of language

Which Module - Academicor General Training?

If you are applying to nursing / medical councilsor intending to study or train through the mediumof English at undergraduate or postgraduatelevel, you should take the Academic module.

If you intend to go on to secondary education, toundertake work experience or a trainingprogramme (not at degree level) or if you need totake IELTS for immigration purposes, then youshould take the General Training module.

You will need to fill up the Application formand submit it to your nearest British Councilwith the required documents as notedbelow.

IELTS Timetable

Candidates will be notified by an officialletter about venue details, speakingschedule and other candidate instructionswell in advance. Information is also postedoutside our venues, on our website or sentby SMS.

For Listening, Reading and Writing tests

12.15 pm Candidates arrive12.30 pm ID check begins and door closes1.00 pm Test begins

The late arrivals will be treated as ABSENT.No one is allowed for the test after12.30pm

For Speaking tests

Speaking tests can be held one day before

the test date or on the day of test or withinseven days after the test date.

Candidates must report to the exam venueat least 60 minutes before the start of theinterview. Candidates must bring theirpassport for their speaking test.

Candidates who do not receive the officialletter are requested to visit British CouncilBangladesh web site(www.britishcouncil.org/bangladesh) at least3 days before the test date.

Results

Results will be despatched to the candidatesmailing address within 14 days by courier.

If candidates wish to collect their results fromBritish Council, they must make a request inadvance and bring their original passport duringcollection.

Candidates must not laminate their result sheet asthe lamination blocks some security features ofthe result sheet and may not be accepted bysome organisations.

Results are not provided over the phone, by e-mailor on the website.

If candidates wish to send results to academicinstitutions, government agencies, professionalbodies or employers they have to provide correctand accurate contact address of those respectiveinstitutions and add their files / case number ifknown.

British Council will charge DHL fees for results sentinternationally but no charge for normal post.

Special timetable for Hartals

In case of hartals ending at 12.00 pm,IELTS test will start at 1.00 pmIn case of hartals ending at 02.00 pm,IELTS test will start at 3.00 pmIn case of hartals ending at 06.00 pm,IELTS test will start at 7.00 pm

On the day of the test

Candidates must bring the same passport whichwas used at the time of exam registration.Passports will be treated as Statement of Entry(Admit Card) for the whole IETLS exam.

Bring personal stationery including pencils, pens,eraser, sharpener and a ruler.

Books, bags and mobile phones are not allowedinside the exam hall.

Recheck

Candidates may apply for an enquiry onresults and all recheck enquiries must bemade via the IELTS administrator and reachBritish Council within four weeks of the issueof the results.

A copy of the candidates TRF must also beincluded for comparison of results.

The re-mark of the candidates work is doneby trained clerical markers and CambridgeESOL appointed Senior Examinersemployed by British Council.

The fee of the re-mark needs to be paid inadvance to British Council. Enquiry fees willonly be refunded if a result is changed to ahigher band score.

British Council is notified of re-mark result

within 6 to 8 weeks after receipt of exammaterials.

Cancellation / Refund of

test fee

If candidates wish to cancel registration withinfive weeks before to the test date no refund willbe offered.

If Candidates wish to cancel registration fiveweeks before the test date they will receive arefund through bank transfer. Candidates mustinclude the original money receipt with theprescribed refund application form. Howeverthe centre will deduct a nominal administrativecharge.

Candidates who seek to cancel theirregistration for serious illness, may get a refundif they can satisfy the Administrator that theirability to sit the test has been affected. Seriouscauses include:

Serious illness e.g. hospital admission or

serious injury (Does not include minor illnesssuch as a mild cold)

Loss or bereavement death of a close

family member

Hardship/ trauma victim of crime, victim of

a traffic accident

Military service

No refund application is accepted after

three days of the test date.

Step 2: Registration

Collect an application from your British

Council office, download it from our

website (for some exams you can also

collect forms at Standard Chartered Bank)

Complete the form and attach necessarypaperwork (copies of first 4 pages of

passport, 3 copies of recent coloured

passport size photograph, copy of

previous IELTS result if you are repeating)

Prepare the exam fee (we accept cash or

bank drafts (made payable to British

Council)

Bring your form, original passport,

photos. fees and paperwork to us

Step 3: Confirmation

Examinations Services will send you all

the details for your exam (venue details,

speaking schedule, candidate

instructions, etc) well in advance.

Information is also posted outside our

venues, on our website or sent by SMS

Please let us know if you do not receive

your pre-exam information

Step 4: Preparation

We provide a wide variety of support for

candidates. For example, IELTS one day

workshops, library membership and

specimen materials, preparation courses

at our Teaching Centre

Step 5: On the day of the exam

Report to your venue at least 30 minutes

before the exam

Make sure you bring your passport which

was used at the point of registration

Remember that you should bring your

own pens, pencils and other stationary

that you might need

Remember also that you are not allowed

to bring bags, mobile phones, or

food/drink into the exam hall

Step 6: Results

Results are published within 14 days of

the test date

You can collect your results from our

offices or by courier
