On the back of strong product sales, revenue for the first nine months of its fiscal 2005 reached US$55.4 million, up 42% on the US$39 million made in the same year-earlier period. Losses from continuing operations were US$9.5 million for the nine- month period, compared with US$18.8 million for the first three quarters of fiscal 2004. The supplier broke down its revenues into product revenue (comprising primarily fingerprint and facial recognition products) and service revenue (primarily the company’s fingerprinting services business and maintenance revenue related to its installed base of biometrics systems). Product revenue for the company’s first nine months of fiscal 2005 was US$30.7 million, up 72% compared with the same year-earlier period product revenue of US$17.8 million. Service revenue for same 2005 period was US$24.75 million, a rise of 17% on the first nine months of fiscal 2004. The technology allows the storage of fingerprint, iris and facial images together on one high- specification Java-based smart card and also allows the matching/checking of these biometrics on the card itself. According to the companies, this type of solution could provide enhanced security and privacy, simplify system architecture and may also lower infrastructure costs. According to Christer Bergman, President and CEO, Precise Biometrics: “The market demands both multi-biometrics and Match-on-Card. By working together with OmniPerception and Iridian, we are in a position of being the first company to offer multi-biometrics Match-on- Card on one and the same card. The partnership with Sharp has allowed us to carry out the first implementation on a platform that is very competitive, not just in Japan but in all markets where passports and ID cards that use multi- biometrics are to be implemented.” For the Japanese market, Precise Match-on- Card will be marketed through the company’s partner, Silex technology. The company’s net sales for the quarter were SEK 14.8 million (US$2.07 million), while the company’s net losses totalled SEK 6.9 million (US$964,000). The company’s revenues for the period hit US$35.8 million, a 13% sequential increase over the previous quarter when net revenues reached US$31.8 million. Meanwhile, net income for the company’s first fiscal quarter was US$10.1 million compared with a net income of US$9.9 million in the preceding quarter. According to Ming Hsieh, president and CEO of Cogent: “We are pleased to report record revenues and a 133% year-over-year increase in revenues in the first quarter of 2005. Demand for biometric solutions continues to grow, and we are seeing an increasing number of requests for proposals for our AFIS systems.” As well as border control, law enforcement and governmental department contracts, Cogent also believes that there is significant mileage in applying its fingerprint identification and pattern recognition technology to the commercial sector. Applications for FingerSwipe will include managing controlled door entry systems in hospitals and cashless systems in school dinner halls, the company says. British computer vision and biometrics company OmniPerception has announced a joint investment from Pentech Ventures and Iris Capital. OmniPerception will use the funds to increase sales of existing products and to further invest in the product development of its range of intelligent video solutions. In a separate development, the supplier announced the appointment of US Marine Corps general Charles E. Wilhelm to its board. Following his retirement from military life, Wilhelm has continued to work in a wide range of defence related activities with emphasis on homeland security. • Viisage has received a Nasdaq delisting notice as a result of its failure to file a Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended 31 December 2004. In an attempt to prevent delisting, the company has secured a hearing before a Nasdaq Listing Qualifications Panel on 19 May 2005, where it will present its plan to complete and file its Form 10-K. The delisting process will be stayed until the panel has made its decision. According to Viisage, the filing delay is as a result of an extensive auditors review into pending litigation against Viisage and how it may affect the company’s year-end results.
