In relation to computers and body language,research is being done with use of mathematics .

Use of mathematics, in order to tech computers tointerpret human movements, hand gestures and

facial expressions.

Research is being done by a group of Europeanresearchers and other scientists as well.

There is a project called MIAUCE has scientistsworking on making this sort of new advance incomputer technology a reality.

The motivation of the project is to put humans inthe loop of interaction between the computer andtheir environment.

A multimodal interface was made, sopeople can interact with theirenvironment.

A couple of real life models of computertechnology that will use body language as

a means of communication and way tofunction.

For a machine to identify human gestures , it needsa few components.

Camera : that can perceive depth and motion veryaccurately.

Feature selector: to pick out salient sub-patterns inan image , like facial features or joint angles.

Database: a typical gestures, movements , or

expressions. Algorithm: usually a hidden Markov model , to

identify from the features which gesture is beingperformed.

Project at the cambridge lab focuses on mind -reading for personal computers.

Observing the users emotional state from bodylanguage and facial expression.

The hope is to ultimately create socially intelligentcomputers that can respond naturally to non-verbal emotional clues .

The same process is being explored withhumanoid robots.

The social robotics lab at Yale University is alsousing machines to understand human movementsin a social context.

The lab is currently developing wolfpack groups

of robots that can observe each others movementsand exhibit following behavior.

the robots in Yales social robotics lab are learningto interact with the world independently, and in

particular theyre learning to interact in a socialworld with intentional agents, just like animals andhumans do.
