Vision Statement As ICT underpins today’s modern lifestyle it is essential that all pupils gain the confidence and ability, that they need in this subject, to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world. The use of ICT will enhance and extend children’s learning across the whole curriculum whilst developing motivation and social skills. Our aims are Allow staff and children to gain confidence in and enjoyment from, the use of ICT. Additionally to allow staff to develop professionally by enhancing their teaching, management and administrative skills. Allow children to achieve specific ICT skills as set down in the schools scheme of work; Allow children to appreciate the relevance of ICT in our society and that they see it as an essential tool for learning, communication, finding information and for controlling and understanding their environment.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3 Pupils are allocated one lesson per week in Year 7, 8 and 9. We aim to give the pupils a breadth of experience in Office software applications and multimedia devices and software applications. Other activities include building websites, various types of programming, social networking and digital citizenship. The curriculum is flexible and open to change depending on emerging technologies, topical issues and the agreement of all ICT teachers. When possible, cross curricular links are made within ICT projects to other subjects.

Assessment, recording and reporting

Examinations All pupils receive a formal written examination in Information Technology during the exam week towards the end of Year 7, 8 and 9. Student studying IGCSE in Year 10 and Computer Science or ITGS in Year 12 will sit an end of year examination based on the content covered in the year. A written mock examination is to be taken by all pupils early in Years 11 and 13 in December of the academic year.

Revision Sessions Revision sessions are only scheduled for Wednesdays after school for one IGCSE student and on Thursday for 2 IB ITGS students. During weekend or school holidays special catch‐up sessions are organised for IGCSE and IB Key stage 3 students can come into the classrooms at break and lunchtimes to ask for further clarification.

Departmental Procedures for Students Students are required to follow the code of conduct signed when they joined the Secondary School. When breaches of the code of conduct occur, the school sanction system is followed involving the following: 1. Verbal warning 2. Demerit for persistent abuse in one lesson or across a number of lessons 3. Detention for persistent abuse and a note should be recorded on Serco 4. Extra-Curricular Activities The ICT Department encourages all students to attend ICT related ECAs in areas they find interesting. There are several ECAs on offer that extend some areas of the curriculum and provide opportunities to experience other fields that pupils may enjoy. These include:

Helping out to produce the school’s Yearbook

Touch Typing;

Object oriented programming

These are offered in throughout the academic year. An ICT room and the library is open five lunchtimes each week to enable pupils to do homework, surf the Internet and socialise, taking the pressure off the busy Library resources.

Moodle Maintenance of the school’s Moodle falls under the responsibility of the ICT department. Each member is required to help where possible with small tasks such as adding students and teachers, creating courses and supporting other staff. Kevin Murphy takes on the role of Secondary Moodle administrator and is responsible for the further development of the system and for the communication with Coa Siu, Nord Anglia’s Moodle manager.
