My fellow colleagues

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning,

2

It is my pleasure to welcome you this morning to the Connected Kenya

2014 Summit. Thank you all for making your way to this year’s

Conference. I hope you are all full of energy and optimism looking to

contribute and listen into the discussions that will take place in the next

2 days.

I personally look forward to the deliberations, debates and networking

opportunities that are posed by this forum. As the chairman of the newly

appointed ICT Authority Board, I am passionate of our mandate which

covers; ICT projects implementation and management; and efficiency and

effectiveness in delivering services to Kenyans. This is because we are

firmly convinced of the crucial role that ICT plays in driving the

economic, social and political development of Kenya as espoused in

Vision 2030.

3

Among the issues that we plan to achieve at this year’s conference is the

launch of the revised National ICT Masterplan 2017. This year we also

plan to have deeper and more detailed discussions in all the sessions. We

will then come up with key recommendations at each of the panels which

will inform the conference report and eventually track their

(recommendations) implementation.

As the ICT Authority Board directors, our objective is to create cohesion

and partnerships for the good of this sector. We also expect to harmonise

ICT budgets in line with the priorities in our workplans in order to achieve

the desired transformation agenda.

4

Our mandate though, can only be achieved if we cultivate strong links

with all of you— government organs, private sector, development

partners and academia. That is why Connected Kenya Summit occupies an

excellent space for these interactions and networking.

Once again, I welcome you all to Connected Kenya Summit 2014.
