INTRODUCTION

This is the final project of Introduction to Construction Industry, well this is a group

work that we need to choose a land which is less than 30 x 30m in the campus as our specific

land within campus area. We need to propose a project of Food and Beverage (Dining Area).

We also need to include types of building development and authorities role in construction

industry.

MY SITE:

What we concern? The competitive of dining business among Taylor’s University dining area.

Due to that, I need to be more aware of where I’m going to place my dining area at, because I

don’t want to become a blockage for the dining business.

1st option: Taylor’s Carpark Taylor’s car park have a big space for development, but there is a

few circumstances that we need to take as consideration. Taylor’s have estimate more than

2000 students per day, the car park seems to almost fit these cars hence they still have not

enough places for parking too. Second, the climate of the car park is very hot because its direct

contact to the sun and it’s very hot to dine in a place like that. ( NOT ACCEPTED )

2nd Option: In the 1st floor of Taylors although this place looks perfect for you, but on the 1st

floor had already contain more than 3 dining area. Second, the 1st floor is a quite packed place

where students always walk in. Imagine you build another dining area there, the space will be

blocked where the students always go and back through the corridor. ( Not ACCEPTED )

Last option: The lake The lake is the best option for me, because it has a wide space for

development and where the crowd which is less. ( ACCEPTED )

SITE ANALYSIS:

Sea Breeze and Land breeze.

- In the morning, the campus occurs these breeze so that the land will be hotter than the lake,

so which it means in the lake will be not as hot as in the land. So, to have a dining area on lake

is quite suitable.

-As for in the night, the lake will be hot than in the land, so in night time, it won’t be so cold to

have a meal out there on the lake.

Aquatic animals that lived in the lake.

-Water pollution in the lake shouldn’t occur, why I would say this statements? Because a dining

area will dispose a lot of wastage materials like liquid, decay, and rubbish or trash that will

block the water system.

Scenery

-The lake is also a nice scenery for the campus students, we need to think of a low rise dining

area that have a theme which fit both of the scenery and a high school level standard.

-Hence, it should not be block by high rise buildings style of dining area, so that it won’t block

the fengshui view of the lake.

Stairs to the lake without fencing

-Based on the design of this lake with stairs, I have an idea to slightly innovate the stairs that

can connect my dining area to campus.

Page 3: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

Direct exposure to the sunlight.

-I never see a lake that is fully covered by a rooftop, so this is the place where I concern that

should I build a cover or rooftop for my dining area so that it doesn’t looks hot which can bring

skin cancer to my customers.

Weather.

-The weather in campus is changing every 24 hours. So, usually in the morning from around 730

to 800 am the sun will rise, and it will be shiny and hot in the 8 to the 12. But when it reached 1

the sky color started to change to shady or raining clouds. And estimate around 3 it will starts

to rain or I mean rain heavily featuring thunders and lightning.

Speed of wind

-The wind is surprisingly strong because the lake is open and the wind blows is directly towards

the campus. So there is no obstacles that block the wind flow. So, based on science, the wind

will get stronger and stronger due to interference and resonance.

The density and depth of the lake.

-When the distance get further, the depth of the lake gets deeper, which means, the

foundation of the dining area maybe slanting downwards. So each weight given in each area

should be balanced, so that it won’t sink because of weight.

-Hence, it’s a manmade lake as they tells, so the land maybe soft, so this will also be one of the

most important analysis for me.

Tides of the lake.

Page 4: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

-The lake is somehow like sea, which it will rise at night and down when morning. So, that, we

should not build lower than the tide rise depth, so that the dining area wont get wet especially

at night time.

NIGHT VIEW OF THE

LAKE:

It looks dull in the night

with this picture,

maybe by adding the

dining area will lighten

up this dull spaces

A MORNING VIEW FROM THE SIDE OF THE LAKE

The lake looks quite

empty without any

development.

Hence a dining area

there would not

block the view of

the scenery as the

pictures shown.

ANOTHER VIEW OF A MORNING LAKE SIDE

SUGGESTION:

Due to sunlight exposure.

-

heat, so that it wont be so hot.

-Leaves

-

can open and close when the day and night time change.

Due to strong wind.

-The canopy should applied weight down there, so that its strong enough to overcome the

force of the wind approaching.

Page 6: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

-The tables also should be heavy enough to support the wind and rain season, so that it can

sustain longer.

-The leaves roof, should be attach professionally and carefully, so that it doesn’t fly off all a

sudden of strong wind.

Water System.

-The water system that flow in and flow out should be arranged efficiently, so that clean water

is always flowing in and food is serve in a hygiene way.

-The wastage stuffs, should not direct flow into the lake, because there is still aquatic animals

that live in there, what I suggest is to connect the basin or any water system that flows dirty

water straight to the drainage system which is already there, just need to connect each other.

Weight of the dining area.

-The foundations should be supported by steels bar, which can hold the building of the dining

area.

-The floor should be made of wood that is light but last longer, so that it wont create a burden

to the foundation and also can last longer due to weather changed.

-Grass covered on wood also can be apply, so that it can make it more eco friendly and more to

the theme itself. Also that, grass can absorb heat as well.

-The structure of dining area should be geometric shapes and balancing due to the slanting

foundation structures. The weight exerted should be equally in every stages of the foundations.

Page 7: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

-Bricks are strongly comment to be used due to strong winds effects and also as a standard

structure for a building.

Others factors.

-The height of the floor should be above lake level, even for the tides that will rise during night

time.

-The surrounding of the dining area should be fenced up, so that no one can drop in the lake

like accidentally.

-The surrounding under the lake should be wide also, so that the aquatic living things can’t

enter the place the dining area under water, so that it wont cause leakage of water due to

aquatic animals.

CONCEPTS:

The dining area brings a concept which is lake friendly hence as mimicry ocean friendly. We

totally combine beach

dining style and concept in

it which brings a more

friendly environment to

people who dine there.

Page 8: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

Climate-

The climate in Malaysia have been

well-known as sunny day and

rainy seasons. While, this theme is

more on summer, so it once again

strengthen the concept of this

dining area on the lake. So that

when the sun shines, people can have meal as usual, but when it comes to night, people can

gather around and have a night party sorts of event there.

MIMICRY-

We mimic the nature of oceans and sea to a lake style and concept of dining area, which mostly

lead the concept of the dining area to a more meaningful and romantic style in the night time

especially. It also brings how Western people social with these kind of concepts of dining area,

which I think is probably will be quite new for Eastern people to enjoy it.

Page 9: ICI PROPOSAL FINAL PROJECT

BENEFITS:

STRATEGIC LOCATION:

It is placed between the SYOPZ and Taylor’s university, which one is commercial zone and

another one is more on educational zone. In fact that, one place have workers and the other

place have students and lectures and also workers as well. And my dining area is place at the

midpoint of this two particular area, which really brings a lot of benefits for this dining area.

SOCIAL BENEFITS:

As I said earlier, the dining area includes a lot of Western culture stuffs in it where people can

stand a chance to speak with each other under a roofless surrounding (IN THE NIGHT). And

again, it can help to gain more relationship between each other especially couple under a

romantic area like that.
