2. Mr. Ramesh starts his career as an architectural manager in 1997 till 2006. After becoming a senior architect, he worked with Unit one design Sdn Bhd It was here where my real exposure and training to design and architecture took place under the tutoring of my former bosses- John Ding and Ken Wong announced Mr. Ramesh. There, he got the opportunity to work on several projects and international projects like in Hong Kong, Philippines, and Japan. Unit one design | interiors + architecture 1 3. Experience As A LecturerIn 2007 Mr. Ramesh left Unit one design thinking to join international architectural firms, travel around the world and work oversees. But at the same time, some of his friends from Limkokwing University, request him to teach there because he used to interviewed students from this school and complain about them. He accepted to teach at Limkokwing University as an Interior design lecturer. Through this, he got a lot of Experiences. The most important thing in Life: Is to have EXPERIENCES A client came back from Australia came at Limcokwing to meet interior Design school for a small renovation. Limkokwing encourage students to do outside projects, get involve and have good practice and ask Mr. Ramesh to set a competition between all his students for this renovation. The competition could not take place knowing that all the students have different course and different timetable, which depends on the courses, chose by the student. Mr. Ramesh said: my students came from different courses so its a bit difficult to organize this competition. While, working in Limkokwing, he received a call from the same British company that he went for interview for a new project. This was an opportunity for him to organize his dream wedding with his wife in Bali in 2008. While working for the British company, his first official project was an apartment. While working for Limkokwing he was at the same time working for the British company as a freelance. After getting married in June 2008, he resigned from Limkokwing as a lecturer to start full time freelancing into Seshan Design Sdn Bhd - his own freelance architecture & design consultancy practice. double Charmer A 3 5. Goals and Vision Mr. Ramesh Goals keep changing. The biggest change of his life is to get married and have a kid. After he gets married, he settled his own office and that was never planed. After the birth of his daughter his goals changed by getting sufficient project, get enough money and travel once a while. He used to dream to be a famous architect, winning international award and so on. At the end of last year he started getting a few interesting projects which have potential to get into international magazines. Now Mr. Ramesh's Goal is to be able to get into bigger projects but he doesn't want to end up like a big firm because according to him, big firm can only do big projects and small projects are too small to be considered. He wants to stay in the same office and reorganize it, such as an office where they can do larger projects for example; they are getting few apartments job. They are moving slowly to get a big job and while moving into a big firm, he still wants do to small projects like restaurants. His vision is to create an office, which does big and small projects where the staff can choose the projects the want to do and to get built. Ramesh believes that by doing big projects only, people can get bored, due to time consuming and may want to change to smaller projects as well. Learn From Your Mistake They are very selective about project. They don't just take projects for the sake of doing it. They do it for portfolio and for learning. For example the hotel that they are doing now, it is not the greatest one and it may not be like a 5 stars hotel and not look fantastic, but they are doing it to have experience and learn about hotel design or for hospitality design that will be publishable. Mr. Ramesh says: I have a lot of friends working in international firm for the past three four years who do only big project, they all get tired because they keep on doing designs and their project doesn't get build'' The side extension of Menerung house ( in construction) Setiakasih House completed in 2009 5 7. An Asset Of this Market Rameshs projects at Unit One Design were very successful which satisfied all his clients. When he decided to open his own office, these customers decided to follow him due to the quality of his work. That is how Mr. Ramesh wins in this market; by receiving new project from his establish customers and word of mouth. Ramesh never takes projects that he cannot do because people remember and it plays on the firms reputation. The most important is not to do big project and have a lot of money but to do sufficient projects that can be completed in a precise delay and make the client satisfied. Some of his friends work in big firms and keep doing only designs for 3 years. For them to start a new project while the previous project is still under the design process, they need to resign and join another company because in contrast to other companies, his projects are done faster. In big companies, their knowledge are very narrow, they dont have a diversify projects and tasks. Mr. Ramesh Company does different type of projects and all staff are involves in the project, has different task and has the opportunity to increase their skills.
