The story of Langspil

Friðbjörg, Anney, Gunnur og Rós

O Langspil is an old Icelandic instrument and the oldest sources describing it are from the 18th century.

O It is a tradtional Icelandic drone zither. It only has 1 melody string with 1 to 5 drone stings, so it is easy to learn to play.

O It can be played by plucking the strings by hand, with bow or by hammering.

O It is made from different types of wood f.ex. Pine, fir, birch, oak and becchwood.

O Today Langspil is again becoming more popular here in Iceland.
