We Speak Hockey...365™

For 100 years, it’s been accepted that ice rinks come with a multitude of expensive and reoccurring problems; not to mention astoundingly high energy costs. Much of this is due to the fact that outdated rink technology is still commonly manufactured and installed throughout North America, potentially leaving rink owners with more of a liability than a worthwhile investment. With truly cutting edge technology and unprecedented flexibility, blü line™ seeks to transform an industry that has been notoriously slow to change.

For everything from the pump station, pipe grid, and project-designed chiller to fittings, accessories and ice maintenance products, blü line™ only sources high quality, durable components packaged for optimal value and longevity. Our products and installation processes aren’t just updated versions of old technology and methods; they’re truly the next generation in ice rink technology.

Introduction

Our ice rink technology will last longer, save more money, use less energy, and will simply provide you with the best product in the market. A blü line™ ice rink can be installed in virtually any climate across the globe, for any situation, event, time period, or size requirement. For short-term needs, blü line™ will come to you with a fully mobile rink that utilizes the same core technologies as our permanent rinks. Our foolproof mobile rinks can be quickly installed and broken down by local labor anywhere in the world, saving time and money.

blü line’s™ adept and accomplished team can design, engineer and produce a customized nuts to bolts solution for any size project...and with our core principles of simplicity, efficiency, and flexibility, we seek to provide the new industry standard in ice rinks for any occasion – no matter how demanding.

REFRIGERATION PIPE GRIDIn many cases, competitors offer inefficient, 128-year-old pipe technology that leaves 11,480 square feet of dead space (non-heat-absorbing space) under the ice. Even the competition’s updated rink pipe grid systems still utilize internal “hose barb” connectors to attach their pipes, resulting in a significant loss in heat extraction and thus “soft ice” during high demand times. blü line’s™ “barb-less” technology allows for the full flow of the secondary refrigerant, unlike the flow restrictive pipe fittings often installed in new rinks to this day.

blü line™ has also eliminated all the liquid-to-metal components in their Pipe Grid, thus eliminating corrosion and increasing life expectancy to a full lifetime of service - well beyond that of standard, less effective components.

Efficient Heat Extraction from the ice...up to 49% Greater Efficiency over many competitors.Short “Heat Dwell Time” = healthier, uniform ice and less maintenance.Energy costs reduced 15% to 35% per annum3.5 times a greater number of pipes – achieves more efficient refrigeration & superior ice quality. Ice will stay consistently hard for great skating.Refrigeration Pipes lay flat & straightNo gaps between pipe grid & perimeter boards – resulting in solid ice right up to the Boards (no beveling of the ice near the Rink Boards).Pipes spacing close together – avoiding a “washboard” ice surface.Pipe Grid rolls out & snaps into the Header – quick installationNo Warm (soft) Spots on the Ice. Reverse Return Balanced Flow Header – ensures balanced flow and even heat absorption – resulting in no wet ice at end of a pipe run.

State-of-the-art blü line™ Pipe Grid design features 12 pipes per foot width - 20,687 Sq. Ft. of dynamic surface area

Commonly seen old fashioned grid design by others featuring 8 pipes per foot width - 17,098 Sq. Ft. of dynamic surface area. This leaves 1,361 Sq. Ft. more “dead space” compared to a blü line™ Pipe Grid

Sub-Ice InsulationThe blü line™ Ice Blanket is a unique "ice insulation" faced with a reflective aluminum layer on one side. The Ice Blanket rolls out over your ice sheet to protect the ice from absorbing heat during non-use hours. The Ice Blanket is a great energy saver for indoor rinks and a must for outdoor rinks. It is applied under the rink pipes of a rink to save energy by providing a "thermal break" barrier. Many imitators use silver colored "mylar" plastic instead of a layer of real aluminum. Mylar does not prevent the heat from entering the ice surface. The Ice Blanket is also not to be confused with "bubble paper" material sold at the hardware store. The Ice Blanket is exclusively manufactured for ice rinks.

blü line’s™ unique Ice Blanket is manufactured with real aluminum and saves 20% on your rink’s energy costs.

NHL STANDARD PERIMETER BOARDSblü line™ Rink Hockey Boards are custom designed for any rink, then factory fabricated in 8’ (2.439 m) sections. Board frame sections bolt together, for quick and easy installation onto concrete footing. The boards are available with or without spectator shielding (tempered glass, safety tempered glass, and plexiglass).

Made from tubular aluminum with 0.2” thick walls, blü line™ produces some of the thickest and strongest board frames in the industry – up to 40% stronger than frames installed by many competitors.

All blü line™ board sections are mechanically fastened together for professional results unlike the flimsy welded “C” channels some rink equipment dealers install. Boards are clad in ½” of Polyethylene for even greater strength and longevity with your choice of colors for the kickplate and toprail.

Frost Free SystemOur Frost Free System maintains temperatures below the refrigerated ice slab and prevents damaging, extreme cold conditions, while also preventing heaving on the cement floor of the rink. When the rink is operated continuously, frost can penetrate to great depths. It is necessary to provide an effective thickness of insulation, and a heat source under that insulation, to offset the remaining heat loss from the soil.

Warm glycol is pumped through the Frost Free pipe grid to further protect and maintain the ice. An accurate design of construction will be completed by calculating an accurate heat balance between the refrigerated slab and the Frost Free System. Fed from a Reverse-Return Header, A grid of 1/2” (12.7mm) piping on 12” (305mm) centers will circulate a glycol solution to create low-temperature radiant heat below the insulated rink slab. The Desuperheaters (should you choose the option) aretied to each Chiller in order to heat the glycol. A Pump Station with a single pump and tank will be mounted on the main rink Pump Station, and the Electrical Control Panel is included in the rink Pump Station Control Panel.

ICE MAINTENANCE PRODUCTSblü line™ offers an array of products that will help make your next-generation rink last and operate like the first day it was installed.

Rink Products

Base IceWhitens the dark color of the floor beneath the ice.Provides some of the whitest ice available.Efficient installation = less labor intensive.Energy Savings of 20% due to whiteness reflecting the heat.

Slush IcePowder mixed with water to form a room temperature slush. When frozen, Slush Ice becomes real ice.Slush Ice seals the seam where the perimeter boards meet the rink floor.Repairs cracks & divots in the ice sheet.

Slick IceLiquid mixed with cold resurfacing water – eliminates expensive hot water resurfacing.Shinier and faster ice surface.Reduces fogging over the ice sheet.Refrigeration equipment runs less, saving energy and preventing wear and tear on equipmentProvides improved, “faster” ice surface

Instant Ice Creates an instant ice glaze to seal your porous, sand or gravel, rink floor. Instant Ice eliminates the problem of "over flooding" on the porous rink floor and that causes the refrigeration pipes to heave. On portable ice rinks, Instant Ice spans the gap between refrigeration pipes allowing for efficient heat transfer, resulting in faster "ice sheet" installation. Each case contains 8 bags and each bag mixes with 55 gallons (209 liters) of water to make the solution.

Ice Building Additive (IBA)IBA is a liquid concentrate, which is added to the cold, ice-building water when installing the initial ice sheet each season. Hot water usage for ice-building is eliminated because IBA reduces the tendency of the water to produce ridges when building ice. With IBA the cold treated water flows evenly across the ice for a smooth ice surface. IBA also allows entrapped air to escape from the ice building water thus creating a denser ice sheet. This denser ice is more energy efficient all season long.

Nozzle SetThese blü line™ solid brass nozzles are used by rinks from the NHL down to local rinks during the creation of the initial ice sheet each season and for ice maintenance during the entire season. These nozzles are user friendly and help create a more professional looking ice. Our "ice products" are applied using this Nozzle Set.

Freeze-In PaintIf your ice needs a custom logo or other design, blü line™ can take away the hassle of hand painting with the Freeze-in paint system. The Freeze-in system produces accurate, professional paint finishes with unrivaled quality and options in color blends.

Ice Resurfacer

The Ice Resurfacer Towel has industrial Velcro-type material on both the mounting bracket and the towel, which makes changing towels effortless. By eliminating the bolts and nuts that would otherwise hold the towel on, the Instant Mount allows you to change the towel in a few seconds. Sizes are available for all models of ice resurfacers.

The blü line™ Ice Resurfacer applies energy saving Slick Ice treated with cold water. Our resurfacers produce a consistent, shiny glaze like the ice shown at this Thailand rink.
