The TrainersThe ICE Gap Courses are the only courses of their kind where all training and assessing is delivered by the same team of fully qualified coaches and BASI examiners. This means you receive the highest level of training from the people who will be assessing you at the end of the course. BASI Courses and training will be delivered by thehighly qualified and experienced team of ICE Directors and BASI Trainers on the opposite page.

All of them are BASI Trainers, many train BASI instructors up to Level 4, are members of the British Demo Team,Directors of The International Centre of Excellence and Directors of Mountain Masters Ski School in Val d'Isère.

All the trainers have been providing training for BASI students and have been running BASI courses for many years.Behind them is a wealth of experience and knowledge that forms the core of the ICE philosophy.

Unlike some of our competitors, training and assessing will be run exclusively by BASI Trainers/Examiners offeringsmooth cohesion between personal performance training and BASI courses. This philosophy contributes to the veryhigh standard of training and subsequently excellent pass rates.

There is no higher level of training available.....anywhere in the world.

In addition, included as part of the extended courses, we run specialist clinics in racing, freestyle, freeride skiing andoff-piste mountain safety which is coached by instructors at the top of their respective specialist fields.

Val d'Isère

Val d'Isère is one of the world's premier ski resorts. Boasting some of the best skiing in the world, a super slick liftsystem and a snow record which affords one of the longest alpine seasons, Val has a reputation as a skiers resort. It ishost to an annual World Cup event and hosted the Alpine World Championships in 2009 and Olympics in 1992.

Many of the world's best have grown up and trained hard in the Espace Killy and the cutting edge of performance to befound in Val through the decades is still very much alive today.

Coupled with that is a lively town in which the several thousand British and Scandinavian seasonnaires who work inVal regularly party in the town's many bars and nightclubs.

Val d'Isère has it all and the rest is what you make it!

Why choose ICE

1. Because we are part of BASI, all of the training you receive on the course is by our team of skiers, who are alltrainers and assessors for BASI. This means that the people who train you in both skiing and snowboarding, are alsothe team that deliver the BASI certification. They are trainers for BASI because of their expertise, skiing skills andexperience. You will get world class training.

2. ICE is owned and managed by three snowsport instructors (Mark Jones, Rupert Tildesley, Dave Cowell). They haveall been based in Val d'Isère for the last twenty years working as ski instructors and are partners in Mountain Masters,a specialist ski and snowboard school. This means that the team of people that coach and manage the course actuallyown the company and live in Val d'Isère, rather than being representatives who are just there for the season. If thereare any problems while you are on the course, it really matters to us that we resolve them effectively.

3. We are not a tour operator, we are part of BASI and have been selected as the sole provider of the official BASI GapCourse, so the training you get is coming straight from the governing body itself, rather than ski instructors who arecontracted in from a school. With gap tour operators (which is every other ski gap provider) they simply buy in servicesfrom other organisations, and then bring them together to make an overall package, without having any experience orexpertise of people who are actually in resort managing the course.

4. We have the highest pass rate in the Alps; 100% at Level 1 Instructor level and 90% at Level 2 Instructor level. It isalso the largest course of its kind. This includes a span of ages, and a healthy mix of men and women.

5. We have a fantastic team behind us in Val d'Isère. We have an office based in Killy Sport which is open daily, themost prestigious ski/snowboarding shop in resort. Within our shop, we have real specialists in their field who can helpin every aspect of equipment and set up. Our specialist coaches offer a truly unique opportunity to find out more aboutdifferent aspects of skiing, from the worlds best. No other organisation can provide this incredibly high level of training,if you want to take your skiing onto another level, this is the place to do it.

6. We have a team of Physiotherapists working with us on the course, they have been based in Val d'Isère for many

years and conduct biomechanical assessments as well as presentations on injury prevention and treatment.

7. At our office we have a member of staff who is there everyday to help with any issues that crop up from day to day.In addition the directors of the company, who are based in town, are on call 24/7.

8. Our apartments are in resort and not down the valley. They are all in a south facing apartment block, and areliterally 50 metres from the slopes.

9. Food is provided by local restaurants. The quality of food is excellent, with a real variety of menu throughout thecourse.

10. There are no hidden extras on our prices - with many of the other operators you have to pay extra for BASI coursefees, first aid courses etc.

11. Because of our experience within the ski industry, we have enough contacts to help you find work following asuccessful result on the course if you want to go straight into the job. We are the only people able to offer this.Furthermore, our former students always stay in touch for advice throughout their skiing careers and we are alwayson hand to offer advice and can give references to former students.

13. In the background: Whilst this is an opportunity for you to expand your horizons and get the most from the time you spend abroad there will always the guidance of the ICE team should things go wrong. Whether it is for medical reason or just a shoulder to lean on, the ICE team will be there to help, should you require it. We have male and female mentors on hand 24/7.

14. This brochure offers a brief insight into the fantastic opportunity you have to spend the winter in Val d'Isère. For more detailed information, please call one of our trainers on 0870 760 7360 or visit our website

Frequently asked questions

What can I do with a BASI qualification?BASI - The British Association of Snowsport Instructors - is the governingbody responsible for the training and grading of British Instructors. Thereare four BASI levels, with Level 1 as the first level and ISTD as the highestlevel.

A BASI qualification allows you to teach anywhere in the world, includingEurope, New Zealand and the Americas. Whilst you have to be a BASI ISIAlevel to work in France, you can work elsewhere with a BASI Level 2, andICE can help you find employment in Europe or elsewhere with yourqualifications which will allow you to teach during university holidays etc. This is where BASI has the edge over the American, Canadianand New Zealand qualifications which are notrecognised in Europe.

Is there a minimum level to attend the course? We do not specify a minimum level for this course, however BASI recommend 10weeks skiing experience before attending a Level 1 Instructor course. Becausethis is a large course, we can cater for a wide range of skiing and snowboardingability and experience. Whatever your level, we guarantee to take your skiing to awhole new level and we regularly have hard working candidates who achieve theLevel 2 with as little as 4-5 weeks previous experience.

Does the course guarantee me a qualification? Our success rates are unparalled and more candidates pass with ICE than anyother Gap provider. We have a 100% pass rate for Level 1 and a 90% pass rate forLevel 2. On the basis of this previous success rate, we can guarantee you aqualification as well as the very best training, preparation and opportunity toachieve it.

What are my job prospects after the course? If you are successful on the Level 2 Instructor course then yourjob prospects are excellent and we can guarantee to get you workas a ski instructor. Through our knowledge of the industry andextensive contacts, we can help you find employment on a weekto week basis (maybe in university holidays) or for the season.Everybody who wanted to work straight after last year’s coursefound a job.

"The BASI Gap course with ICE is a fantastic opportunity for anyaspiring snowsports instructor.
