SocialSummer Extended Day
Reading-A-Thon
PurposeCourtesy of the BPS Library System, we have been
lent a number of picture book, trade books, and
non-fiction texts that are tailored to work with the
Summer Themes in order to:
Create a rich reading experience in a laid
back atmosphere
Emphasize skills and concepts across the
curriculum
Construct meaning of topics and subject
matter
Encourage discussion and use of critical
thinking skills in a variety of content areas
Enrich the opportunity for making meaning
to curriculum content across the curriculum
Challenge For each book read and returned, your group will be
given a “scoop” of ice cream to add to the Ice Cream
Social Read-A-Thon.
In order to get a scoop of ice cream, a student
(preferably a different student each time), completes
a reflection/response which reflects something they
learned, liked, or connected to during the story.
The group with the “tallest” ice cream cone will
receive a special treat.
Rewards will begin on a bi-weekly basis.
