FAITH FORMATION NEWS

"Proeliatores Dei" is our parish's young adult group. Young adult parishioners ages 18-28 are welcome to join us every Thursday night from 7:30 - 9:00 in the Lion's Lair for faith, fun, and fraternity. For more information, please go to our website: www.thewarriorsofgod.org or call Fr. Philip at the church office (813-885-7861). We hope to see you there!

AN ONGOING MISSION

In his hometown synagogue, Je-sus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street.

Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Eli-jah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all.

In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mission cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new chal-lenges. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Introduction to the Solemn High Mass and Other Liturgies: The Prayers, Rituals and Chants

Have you ever relaxed to the sounds of monks singing Gregorian Chant? Have you ever allowed it to elevate your spirit in prayer? Gregorian chant was traditionally sung by choirs in churches, or by religious orders in their chapels. It is the traditional music of the Roman Rite performed in the Mass and the monastic Office.

We are honored to host Fr. Samuel Weber, O.S.B., an expert in Gregorian Chant, who will share with us his love for sacred music and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form. Since beginning grade school in 1953, Fr. Weber has been studying and singing Gregorian chant. In April 2008, he became the founder and first director of The Institute of Sacred Music in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. The Institute of Sacred Music was established by Archbishop Raymond E. Burke to promote the sacred liturgy and Gregorian Chant. The goals of the Institute are to carry out the directives of the Second Vatican Council and papal documents regarding the

role of Gregorian Chant and sacred polyphony in the life of the Church.

Join us February 21-24 at Incarnation parish for the Latin Mass seminar entitled The Solemn High Mass and Other Liturgies: the Prayers, Rituals and Chants. In this three part seminar, Fr. Weber will speak on the Solemn High Mass, the High Mass, the Low Mass, Gregorian Chant, and the primacy of place of sacred music in the liturgy. He will also give two sessions to train our schola and our altar servers, both of which are open to registrants who may wish to sit in and learn more about how Gregorian Chant is sung and why the altar servers do what they do

In this seminar, Fr. Weber will address: How to attend the Low Mass;

How to attend and understand the High Mass and Solemn High Mass;

How to understand other liturgies such as the Requiem Mass;

How to serve the Low Mass and the High Mass; and

How to sing Gregorian Chant

As a most noble closing to this seminar, Fr. Patrick Hough, S.J. will sing a High Mass at 4:30pm on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Incarnation Church. This will be the first High Mass at Incarnation as we transition to offering the High Mass twice per month in our regular Traditional Latin Mass schedule.

It is a high honor to have Fr. Weber visit with us to teach us and train us, and we would love to have you join us for this seminar to learn more about and to help usher in the celebration of the sung High Mass at Incarnation.

PART III

Sunday, February 24, 2013 1:30-3:00pm in St. Michael's Hall Altar Server Training ~

In this session, Fr. Weber will train the altar servers in serving the Low Mass and, in particular, the High Mass. Time permitting, he will address the role of the MC in the High Mass and Solemn High Mass. While this session is specifically for altar servers, if you're interested in understanding better what they do, you are welcome to sit in on this session

You don't want to miss this part! If you are unable to attend Session A, Fr. Weber will repeat this information is Session B (see below). Saturday, February 23, 2013 6:30-8:30pm in the Church

Ahora tenemos estas tres virtudes: la fe, la esperanza, y el amor;
