1. 12TH Businessworld FICCI CSR Award 2011-12 for Exemplary
Innovation Promoting CSR
On 7th December 2012, SRF Limited bagged the reputed “12th
Businessworld FICCI CSR Award 2011 -12 for its IBMKidSmart Early
Learning Program under the category of Exemplary Innovation
Promoting CSR“at FICCI, New Delhi. The Award was presented by
Honorable Minster of Corporate Affairs, Sh. Sachin Pilot, along with other
dignitaries RV Kanoria, President FICCI and Rajshree Birla, Chairperson
FICCI CSR. The Award was received by Dr. Suresh Reddy, Head CSR, SRF
Ltd representing Mr. A.Rakesh, Head - KidSmart, SRFF, with collaborative
Partners Ms. Deepa Kedoor on behalf of IBM and Mrs. Snehalatha – Director, SCERT on behalf of
Department of Elementary Education/SSA/MDA, Government of Haryana.

2. Program Expansion
With successful implementation of 18 centers in 18 villages under its Mewat Rural Education
Program reaching to 250 teachers and 10,000 children in Nuh block, Mewat district, Haryana.
Today, the program expands with increase in programs and no of 59 KidSmart centres scaled
across Haryana, Rajasthan & Tamil Nadu; the program serves the educational needs of 540
teachers and 16,000 school – going and out-of –school children aged between 3 – 8 yrs.
Out of 59 center’s, 39 center’s catering 5-8 YEUs per centre are designed to operate a full fledge
KidSmart program and 20 centres with one YEU is designed to be operated for Middle school
children and teachers for strengthening of ICT and Promote School Governance with different
methodology within the same campus using additional software’s. The following table shows the
details of expansion since 2010.

3. Selection of Schools for Roll Out - 2
As done similar to last year, the selection of schools was based on the criteria fulfilling the
requirement of IBM. During the selection process
SRFF had involved both Govt. & Community seeking
their views and took assurance for ownership of the
program. At Mewat location of Haryana, a joint visit
was made by Mr. Javeed, SDEO – SSA along with
SRF representatives and 7 locations of MREP schools
were selected with estimations. One location at Udaan
girl’s residential campus and one at SRF Vidyalaya,
Manali, Chennai location was directly selected by SRF
Foundation. At Rajasthan location, Engineer of SSA
along with SRFCB CSR representatives had selected
12 locations. Letters to respective Govt officials were
submitted with following details of annexures.

4. Signing of MoUs and Declaration
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was
signed among the following partners for three
different locations in three different States.
Haryana Location: The MoU was signed on 1st
January 2012 between IBM, SRF Foundation and
Department of Elementary Education (DEE) for Roll
Out 2. The MOU was signed by Manager- CC& CA
on behalf of IBM, The Director from SRFF and Dist.
Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) - Mewat,
Haryana from Department of Elementary Education.
A separate MoU was signed between IBM and SRF Foundation for Udaan Girls Residential
Program.
Rajasthan location: The MoU was signed on 21st
August 2012 between IBM, SRF Foundation, SRF
Chemical Business and Department of Elementary
Education (DEE) for roll out 1 and 2. The MoU was
signed by Manager- CC& CA on behalf of IBM, The
Director from SRFF, Head – Community Projects
from SRFCB and Dist. Elementary Education Officer
(DEEO) - Alwar, Rajasthan from Department of
Elementary Education.
Chennai Location: The MoU was signed on 21st
August 2012 between IBM and SRF Foundation. The MoU was signed by Manager- CC& CA on
behalf of IBM and The Director from SRFF.
*A declaration for no of YE Units allotted for each school was taken with attestation from the
respective Head Master of each school.

5. Renovation of School Buildings for IBMKidSmart Centre’s
At Mewat location: Directions from Financial
Commissioner & Principal Secretary (FC & PS) of
School Education Department, Haryana were given to
The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mewat for a joint
activity of SSA, MDA and Elementary Education
Department and renovate the suggested existing
buildings through a contribution of ₹ 2 Lakhs per
center. With the provision of interior design by SRFF,
SSA renovated the selected rooms through School
Management Committee (SMC) utilizing transferred
budgets deposited into school individual accounts by
the government. Regular follow up was done by
SRFF involving district education officials and SMCs
by conducting Centralized meetings, School level
meetings and ongoing visits and achieved the
renovation work as desired.
At Rajasthan: 2 locations were sanctioned for
construction of new rooms @ Rs. 2.7 lakhs per
location and 10 locations were sanctioned Rs.13.5
lakhs for renovation of existing classrooms from
District Collector fund. With the provision of interior
design by SRFF, SRF Chemical Business Plant CSR team took care of renovation of centres with
the help of SSA Engineer. In the context both SRFCB
and SSA engineer with HMs /SMCs made exposure
visit to mewat to understand the renovation process
and tried for excellency at their location.
At Chennai & Udaan Mewat: SRF Foundation took
care of the renovation of centres at SRF Vidhyalaya,
Manali, Chennai and Udaan girl’s residential camp at
Mewat.

6. Appointment of Vidhya Volunteers
At Haryana location, with the directions given by FC & PS of School Education Department,
SRFF took care of appointing the Vidya volunteers as centres in charges on behalf of government
by recruiting 7 Vidya Volunteers locally from the villages through a refinery process. With the
facilitation from office of FC & PS - School Education, Mewat Development Agency (MDA) took the
responsibility of paying the honorarium of ₹ 4,000/- per month per Vidya volunteer for three years
period of project.
At Rajasthan and Chennai location, SRF CB and SRF Vidhyalaya took responsibility in
appointing 12 Vidya Volunteers (V.V) for Rajasthan locations & one V.V for SRF Vidyalaya by
paying honorariums of ₹ 4,000/- per month per Vidya volunteer.
7. Supply and Installation of Equipment
During the roll out 2 the following equipments were supplied and installed by IBM to respective 21
centres of Mewat (Haryana), Alwar(Rajasthan) and SRF
VIdhayalaya, Chennai.
174 Young Explorer Units were supplied by IBM consisting
of 174 little tikes Plastic furniture, 174 LCD flat Monitors, 174
CPUs and 174 UPS of 600AH
174 Speakers sets
21 Edmark CDs suitable to local language i.e. Hindi.
21 Photo scanners cum printers were supplied and installed
in 21 IBMKidSmart centres.
21 Microtek online UPS and 126 batteries. Each centre
comprised of 1 Online UPS and 6 batteries giving a 3hrs
backup per day at the time of power cuts.
** All the above equipment is installed by Technical Engineers from Eco Systems and Mentor Systems Services - Gurgaon. The installation for new center’s are under process.
8. Inagurations of IBMKidSmart Centres
Chennai Location : IBM KidSmart center at SRF Vidyalaya, Manali, Chennai was inaugurated on
7th March 2013 by the leadership team of SRF Ltd. Mr. Shekar, Unit Head, Manali Complex; Mr.
A.Narayanan, Chief Manager, Admin and Mr. Anand Bhaskar, Chief Manager, H.R. accompanied
the school Principal, staff and students. The center being the crown of the school gave a lot of
pride for the school, company and community.
Rajasthan Location: The first IBM Kidsmart centre at Bhiwadi, Rajasthan was inaugurated in the
Govt. Primary school, Shahpur on Thursday 18th April 2013. The inauguration was done by
Chief Guest -- SRF DMD Mr. Kartik Bharat Ram; Ms.
Anupama Jorwal (IAS) - Asst. District collector
Rajasthan; Mr. Tilak Raj Pankaj – Block Education
Officer (BEO); Vishnu swamy – Principal, DIET
College, Mr. Raju Marva- Plant Head, SRFCB;
Mr.HS.Dua – CSR Head, SRFCB and other
representatives from SSA, Panchayat and
Community. A total no of 150 community members
participated the event. The occasion gave a new
exposure for all representatives and a boosting
energy and interest to complete renovations and
operate the other 11 centres in a month time as early as possible.
9. Capacity Building of Teachers
A) At Mewat (Haryana):
2nd Phase Teacher Training Program: In
continuation, after the implementation of 1st phase
training inputs for 5 months the 2nd phase training
was conducted for 90 govt. teachers of class 1,2 &
3 in three batches at S.P.Nagali IBMKS centre
from 25th April to 5th May 2012. The training was
focused on various concepts on Intellectual and
Social skills, Making Meaning for Reading
Development, Dramatization, Activity Based
Teaching, Recording and Print Options in Edmark
Software, Multigrade Teaching- Learning,
Assessment & Evaluation, Reflection and Lesson
plan preparation. During the training Mrs. Santosh
Talwar, DEEO of Mewat District had visited,
interacted with teachers and took the feedback
from them personally. The feedbacks of teachers
shown positive in terms of understanding the
concept of IBMKidSmart program and demanded
to extend such kind of trainings for long days with
more hands on experience.
TLM Workshops for Vidya Volunteers: To
strengthen the capacity of 18 Vidya Volunteers a
total no of 9 TLM workshops were conducted
during the year. The workshops led the VVs
enhance their skills, creativity and make materials
for their respective centre to be used regularly in
classes. A lot of improvement is seen the VVs in
usage of low cost- no cost materials, appropriate
color combinations, preparing attractive and good
TLMs.
B) At Manali (Chennai):
1st Phase Teacher Training Program The 1st
phase 3 days of IBM KidSmart Teacher Training
Program was also conducted in SRF Vidyalaya in
Manali, Chennai. The training was conducted from
6th to 8th March 2013. A total no of 16 teachers of
pre & primary school participated in the training.
The teacher training program has given exposure
to the teachers about the latest technology and methodology for effective classroom
teaching learning process. The themes covered were: About KidSmart project,
understanding of current teaching learning practices in schools, Child Development,
Children Learning, Introduction to Technology corner, Exploration of software, Derivation of
Philosophy, Concept Teaching, Auditory – Visual Processing for Reading development,
Spin a tail chart, ELC methodology, Record maintenance and ELC Management.

10. Onsite Support & Observations
A) 1st phase Skill Transfer Meetings
During the month of August and September 2012, the 1st phase skill transfer meetings were
conducted for 114 Teachers (35 core group and 75 Non-Core Group) spread in 18 village
locations of KidSmart centres. The meetings were conducted for 2hrs hours based on the
centralized training by Mr. Kamlesh Mishra – Program Coordinator. The meeting helped to
leverage the concept of KidSmart between Core – group and Non-Core group.
B) Interchange Mode of Learning and Improvement: As a motivational strategy and
bringing change in the work environment, the Vidya Volunteers are deputed for 15 days
from 2nd March 2013 to 16th March 2013 to nearby KidSmart centres to assess current
staus of the centre, strive towards making improvements in various aspects, Learn best
practices of other centres and share pre- and post-improvement status to SRF Foundation.
The outcome was tremendous with lot of changes and best practices shared among the
volunteers. As a motivation the foundation also rewarded them with small token of cash
incentive for the good work done.
C) Onsite Support - 2nd phase Checklist: With the successful implementation of 1st
phase, the focus of onsite support moved much more ahead on academic aspects. Hence
a 2nd phase checklist was designed and a pre- assessment was done. In coming months
the support will be more focused towards quality of classroom transaction in teaching and
learning aspects.

11. Integration of Innovations
A) Strengthening of Learning Corners
As per the program process, integration of innovations and strengthening of the three corners,
SRF Foundation planned and facilitated the following additional content to 18 KidSmart
centres:
Technology Corner – APF Software’s (Azim Premji Foundation Software’s) were
installed in the systems which helps the child to explore and learn class 1 to class 8
concepts of Language, Maths and EVS in English and Hindi languages.
Reading Corner -- Jyodo Gyan Maths Kit and 150 set of Pratham story books were
supplied to all 18 center’s which provides children learn math’s concepts of Pre - school
and Primary school gaining hands on experience.
PEC Corner -- Apart from the 3 corners, the Physical Education (PEC kit) is
integrated as the fourth corner in KidSmart centre. The kit provides nearly 80 physical
games related to primary school curriculum. All the 18 centres were provided with
separate kits and manuals. This fourth corner operates with games within classroom
and outside the classroom and more helpful for managing high strengths in classrooms.
B) KidSmart Platform for RE – Inventing Education Program
With the successful implementation of IBMKidSmart program in mewat, IBM collaborated with
SRF Foundation and rolled out the 1st year of RE-Inventing Education program aiming to
transform SRFF working schools in mewat as 21st century schools physically and procedurally.
The program targeted 62 interested teachers (of which 50% are KidSmart teachers) of 47
Primary and Middle schools and is preparing them as Champion teachers by enhancing their
skills, giving exposure visits to The Shri Ram Schools and providing RE-Tools for effective
classroom teaching. A no of 40 trainings programs are so far conducted in the year. Today the
KidSmart program facilitates a platform for these champion teachers to explore and learn basic
computers skills, encourage creativity in preparing ppts, download school photos, prepare
photo stories, take print outs etc…
C) Strengthening of ICT in School Education
On successful implementation of KidSmart Program, an additional 27 computers were donated
by IBM to Mewat schools through SRF Foundation. The computers are supplied to 19 middle
schools based on the school size and strength. Coordinating with IBM technicians all the
computers are installed in 19 middle schools and one Block Resource Centre spread in 19
villages of Nuh Block, Mewat. These schools create platform for strengthening of ICT by
providing internet connectivity and integrate sub - programs like Reading Companion – an
online content access and network creation, Promotion of Science and Math’s through ‘Eureka’
3D content and develop School Governance through ICT which are in pipeline.
*The above programs are sanctioned and are under process to take long way in promoting ICT
in Mewat schools.
12. Jashn- E-Taleem-2012, Summer Camp Program
The 2nd Special Summer Camp under the title Jashn- e- Taleem was conducted for 30 days from
1st June 2012 to 30th June 2012 in 18 IBMKidSmart centres of 18 villages of Nuh. The summer
camp was innovative with three different camps organized i.e KidSmart Summer camp, Girls
Summer camp and Football Summer camp. The detailed reports are given as the following

13. IBM Representatives visit to KidSmart centres
Ms. Mamtha Sharma, Manager and Mr. Nitin,
Program Manage from Corporate Citizenship &
Corporate Affairs of IBM; visited Mewat District on
03 April 2013 to study the progress of KidSmart
Early Learning Program and Reinventing Education
program, operational in collaboration with IBM. The
representatives visited Chandeni and Tapkan
villages and were delighted to interact with the
teachers, children and KidSmart volunteers. They
were very impressed with the Vidya Volunteers
contribution, HMs Leadership, Cleanliness of the
centres, Print- rich environment created towards
KidSmart centers. It was amazed to learn about children turning confident and exploring various
opportunities through Technology, reading and craft activities.
Interacting with 6 Reinventing Education Program
(RE) Teachers they were overwhelmed to learn
physical transformation of classrooms, teacher’s
usage of RE tools, integrating activities and games
in classroom teaching. It was surprising that
teachers being active on social media and making
use of Facebook to share and communicate. Thus
the overall visit made them delighted which are
proving the reason for the social cause everyone is
working for.
14. Volunteerism by IBM Corporate Employees -- IBM AETNA
visit
In continuation to last year, a sustainable ODC engagement for social action by IBM employees,
drawing from the support of IBM Management and SRF Foundation has come into existence with
AETNA healthcare process outsourcing team of IBM. On 16th February 2013, nearly 50 IBMers
have shown interest and participated the social activity with pride, gratification and honor at
Tapkan IBMKidSmart centre.

15. Support by Govt. Officials
The positive relationship with Govt. Officals at all
levels and rapport built was so encouraging that all
the requests / proposals / issues are well responded
and accepted without any bias by them. The
following are some of the examples which shows the
support mobilized for KidSmart Cause:
Mobilized one lakh worth of power tank for
Chandeini Govt. School in consultation with
XEN of Power Dept, Mewat and activated the
KidSmart centre.
Solved major issues in integration of
KidSmart program by DPC & DEEO using their good offices.(Ex: Non-cooperation of HM is
solved, Follow up with JE for proper renovation of centres)
SDEO / JE made Joint visits with the foundation and followed up with SMC in renovation of
the centres ensuring good quality for new centres.
DPC-SSA, SDEO, JE and SMC Participated in meetings at centralized locations and
School locations foundation representatives in supporting KidSmart renovations.
16. Monitoring
The monitoring on KidSmart is done at three different levels regularly by the Govt. and SRF
Foundation on daily and monthly basis. On monthly basis the Vidhya Volunteers are
conducted monthly meetings by the Program Head -- Mr. Rakesh to share their progress
reports, share best practices, review the Performance of centres, discuss issues and concerns
and make plans for next month. Similarly on monthly basis the Govt. representatives of Block
Education Office (BEO) and Mewat Development Agency (MDA) monitor by visiting the
schools personally and share the status and issues to the Director of SRFF. On daily basis
Program Coordinator –Mr.Kamlesh Mishra provides onsite support and monitors the program
regularly visiting the centres.
17. Technical Services by IBM
As IBM provides 3 years of service for all software and hardware technical issues for Monitor and
CPU, all technical calls are maintained in a call log dash board by the school and foundation. The
calls are received directly by respective services operated from Bangalore and depute Engineer to
solve the issues in 72 hrs. And all UPS issues are taken care with local vendor at Gurgaon. So far
10 Computer issues and 9 UPS issues were logged and solved.

18. Promotion of KidSmart in Community and Social Media
SRF Foundation promotes about the KidSmart program through the
following Medias:
1. Parvaz -- A local monthly newsletter especially designed for
community is circulated 1000 copies in 19 villages.
2. School Nurture Policy Website – A testimonial shared with Education Dept. of Govt. of
Haryana (as requested by them) for School Nurture Policy Website about Partner who are
implementing programs without charging govt. for the service provided.

3. SRFF case story for FICCI– As an awarded program and best practice, a story write up on
Kidsmart program was submitted to FICCI for publishing in their booklet.

4. Mobile Van -- ‘Aaviskar’ a mobile science van of SRF
Foundation promotes KidSmart photo stories, case
studies, Sarpanch / Govt. official interviews etc in 19
villages on regular basis.

Manjeet is studying in 3rd class. Before KidSmart program Manjeet had not seen the computer
and he had no knowledge about computer. In beginning he feared to work on the computer,
now he can switch from one program to another. He enjoys more IBMKS classes and likes to
spend more time on computers. He says that learning through computer is interesting and
joyful. He likes small, medium and big game of shoes and making house from the shapes of
Nandi ka Ganit Ghar. He has learned difference between small and large in numbers, different
type of shapes, numbers and addition through computer.

Class - 4th
Village - Mahrola
Fardeen is studying in 4th class. He enjoys more IBMKS classes. He says that learning through
computer is interesting and joyful. He likes making house using different shapes of Nandi ka
Ganit Ghar and classification of animals from Raghu ka vigyan ghar. He improved his computer
skills and can color pictures using ‘Paint application’. He can draw the picture of cat in paint. He
has learnt about addition, greater and smaller, birds, animals, time, drawing etc. Before IBMKS
Khalid had not seen the computer and he had no any knowledge about computer. In beginning
he feared to work on the computer. Now he likes to spend more computer classes. He can
explore all the games in computer independently.
20. Challenges faced during the year 2012-2013
Delay in renovation of new KidSmart centres due to transfers of Govt. officials and
Engineers.
Re-connection of power for Chandeini School mobilizing a separate power tank and
eliminating local issues.
Operation of the center’s according to 2nd phase checklist.
Replacement of few Vidya Volunteers.
Long power cuts in few villages and deep discharge of power back up batteries at
two locations. Recharging these batteries locally by transporting to main city and
village.
