Quick Installation Guide

This section provides the product and software descriptions and theinstallation and user’s guide.

Product description

The IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI) Card is a standard PCI card that fitsinto any standard PCI slot. It has one light-emitting diode (LED) indicator andan external antenna. This PCI card is used to create a wireless network thatcomplies with the IEEE 802.11b standard on wireless LANs. It supportsdata-transfer rates up to 11 Mbps. This PCI card is fully compatible with anyother wireless LAN system based on direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS)radio technology that complies with the IEEE 802.11b standard on wirelessLANs. The card supports the following wireless LAN features:

v Automatic Transmit Rate select mechanism in the range of high, medium,standard, and low

v Frequency channel selection (2.4 GHz)

v Roaming over multiple channels

v Card Power Management

v Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) data encryption, based on the 64-bit and128-bit WEP encryption algorithm as defined in the IEEE 802.11 standard onwireless LANs

In addition to this manual, your package contains the following:

v IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI) Card

v The IBM Driver and Utility CD

The PCI card is a standard PCI bus card that you can use to install the IBMHigh Rate Wireless LAN (PCI) Card into a computer.

Installing the device drivers and softwareYour computer must meet the following requirements to work with the IBMHigh Rate Wireless LAN (PCI) card:

v PCI specification compliant PCI slot

v Microsoft® Windows® 95, Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000Professional, Windows Millennium Edition (Me) or Windows NT operatingsystem (Service Pack 6 or higher)

v A minimum of 5 MB of free disk space for the driver and utility program

Installing the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI) CardTo install the PCI card into your computer, carefully follow these steps:

1. Shut down your computer.

2. Disconnect the power cords from your computer and all external devicesthat are connected to your computer.

3. Remove the top or side cover of your computer, according to theinstructions in the user’s guide that came with your computer.

4. Select an available PCI slot for the card, and remove the metal filler strip.Keep the screw for mounting the card.

5. Make sure that you remove the antenna from the card, and gently insertthe connector of the PCI card into the slot.

6. Secure the card into place with the screw that you removed in step 4.

7. Install the antenna, see “Installing and removing the antenna” on page 1-3for more information.

8. Replace the computer cover according to the instructions in the user’sguide that came with your computer.

9. Reconnect all the external devices and power cords to your computer.

10. Turn on your computer to complete the hardware installation.

Installing and removing the antennaThere are two types of antennas that could be used with this Wireless LAN(PCI) Card:

v Helical antenna is for the IBM NetVista™ X41 computer

v Dipole antenna is for other IBM or non IBM computers

CAUTION:

Make sure the computer is off when you install or remove the antenna.Installing or removing the antenna while the computer is on might causeinjury or might damage the PCI card. Never operate the High Rate WirelessLAN (PCI) Card without the antenna installed.

Installing and removing the antenna1. Make sure that the computer is turned off.

2. Insert one end of the antenna into the antenna connector labeled ANT.

3. Install the antenna by threading it counterclockwise until it is firmly seated.Do not overtighten.

To remove the antenna, reverse the above procedure.

Installing device drivers

Make sure that you have completed hardware installation before you turn onyour computer and start installing the device drivers and software.

Installing the device drivers for Windows 95 and Windows 98Use this procedure to install the device drivers:

1. Windows will automatically find the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI)after the card has been physically installed.

2. Insert the IBM Driver & Utility CD in the CD-ROM drive.

3. Click Next.

4. Choose ″Search for the best driver for your device”.

5. Click Next.

6. Select Specify a location.

7. Input the location of the driver. The location is the drive in which the CDwas inserted with a directory path of ″\Driver″. See example in figure

8. Windows will find the following file for device driver installation.

9. Click Next.

10. Enter any specific wireless network information in the utility page tosetup your wireless card.

11. Click OK when finished.

Note: These settings can be changed at a later time, as described on page1-31 through 1-35.

12. Windows will require the original Windows CD-ROM to complete driverinstallation. Please remove the IBM Driver & Utility CD and insert theWindows disc to complete installation.

Note:Windows may have difficulty finding the appropriate files. If so, ensurethat the path to the CD-ROM drive is correct with a path of \WIN98 or

\WIN95 dependent upon your operating system. Click OK.

13. Click Finish to complete the installation procedure.

14. Select Yes to restart your computer.

Installing the device drivers for Windows Me

To install the device drivers for Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me),do the following:

1. Windows will automatically find the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI)after the card has been physically installed.

2. Insert the IBM Driver & Utility CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3. Select Automatic search for a better driver.

4. Click Next.

5. Enter any specific wireless network information in the utility page to set upyour wireless card.

6. Click OK.

Note: These settings can be changed at a later time, as described on page1-31 through 1-35.

7. Click Finish to complete the installation procedure.

8. Click Yes to restart your computer.

Installing the device drivers in Windows NT with networkingalready installed

Use this procedure to install the device drivers in a computer runningWindows NT 4.0 with networking already installed:

1. Click Start → Settings → Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Network icon.

Note: If Windows NT Networking is not installed on your computer, thefollowing window will be shown. Please consult your networkadministrator for further information on installing Windows NTNetworking.

3. Click the Adapters tab.

4. Click Add to add a new adapter.

5. Click Have Disk.

12. If your wireless network requires encryption (WEP), modify theencryption settings to meet network requirements as described on page1-35 through 1-37.

13. Click Finish.

For additional information, contact your network administrator.

14. In the list of adapters, the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Card will bedisplayed.

15. Click Close to complete the installation.

16. If you have a DHCP server on your network, select ″Obtain an IP addressfrom a DHCP server″. Otherwise, you may manually input IP information.For further information, contact your network administrator or InternetService Provider (ISP).

17. Click OK.

18. Click Yes to restart your computer to complete the installation procedure.

Installing the device drivers in Windows 2000

Use this procedure to install the device drivers in a computer runningWindows 2000:

1. Windows will automatically find the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN (PCI)after the card has been physically installed.

2. Insert the IBM Driver & Utility CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3. Click Next.

4. Select ″Search for a suitable driver for my device″.

5. Click Next.

6. Verify that the ″CD-ROM drives″ check box is selected.

8. Windows will find the following file for the device driver installation.

9. Click Next.

10. Enter any specific wireless network information in the utility page to setup your wireless card and click Next.

11. If your wireless network requires encryption (WEP), modify theencryption settings to meet network requirements as described on page1-35 through 1-38.

12. Click Next.

Setting up TCP-IP for Windows 95, Windows 98, or WindowsMe

To set up TCP-IP for Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, do thefollowing:

1. From the Start button, go to Start->Settings->Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Network icon.

3. Select TCP/IP->IBM 802.11 Wireless LAN PCI Card.

4. Click Properties.

5. If you have a DHCP server on your network, select ″Obtain an IP addressautomatically″. Otherwise, you may manually input IP information. Forfurther information, contact your network administrator or Internet ServiceProvider (ISP).

6. Click OK to finish.

Setting up TCP-IP in Windows NT

To set up TCP-IP in Windows NT, do the following:

1. From the Start button, go to Start->Settings->Control Panel.

3. Select Protocols.

4. Select TCP/IP Protocol.

5. Click Properties.

6. In the Adapter section, select the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Card.

7. If you have a DHCP server on your network, select ″Obtain an IP addressfrom a DHCP server″. Otherwise, you may manually input IP information.For further information, contact your network administrator or InternetService Provider (ISP).

8. Click OK to finish.

Setting TCP-IP in Windows 2000

To set up TCP-IP in Windows 2000, do the following:

1. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel.

2. Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.

3. Using the right mouse button, click Local Area Connection that refers tothe wireless network.

4. Select Properties.

5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

6. Click Properties.

7. If you have a DHCP server on your network, select ″Obtain an IP addressautomatically″. Otherwise, you may manually input IP information. Forfurther information, contact your network administrator or Internet ServiceProvider (ISP).

8. Click OK to finish.

Installing the IBM Wireless LAN Client Manager

After the device drivers are installed and the computer is restarted, use thisprocedure to install the IBM Wireless LAN Client Manager:

1. Insert the IBM Driver and Utility CD into the CD-ROM drive.

2. If the CD does not start automatically, consult the CD label for instructions.

3. Select Install IBM Wireless LAN Client Manager.

4. Click Next.

5. Select the Program Folder in which the shortcut must be installed.

6. Click Next.

7. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.

8. Click Finish to complete installation procedure.

Using the IBM Wireless LAN Client Manager

The functions of the IBM Wireless LAN Client manager are on four pages:

1. Configuration

2. Encryption

3. Link

4. About

The following sections describe these functions.

ConfigurationThis section describes the settings on the Configuration page.

ProfileIf you are going to use the Wireless LAN (PCI) Card in multiple networkingenvironments that require different configuration settings, you can define adedicated profile for each environment. For example, you can create one profilefor your office and another for your home office.

Each profile has a profile name and contains the network name, network type,communication channel, communication data rate, power-management settingand any encryption keys for the environment. The initial configuration isstored in the default profile.

When you move your computer from one environment to another, you canquickly change the Wireless LAN (PCI) Card settings by selecting the profilefor the new environment.

To create a new profile, simply type the name that you would like for theprofile and make the appropriate selections in the IBM Wireless LAN ClientManager window.

ModeYou can select between two modes:

v Infrastructure - An infrastructure network consists of wireless workstationsthat are interconnected through one access point or through multiple access

points and a wireless backbone.

v 802.11 AdHoc - An AdHoc network consists of workstations within mutualcommunication range of each other through the wireless medium.

SSIDTo join your computer to an existing network that includes access points or toset up an AdHoc network, select or type the network name in the SSID field. Ifthe Wireless LAN (PCI) Card is operating in Infrastructure mode, use theinfrastructure network name, or if you want the Wireless LAN (PCI) Card toconnect any IEEE 802.11 infrastructure network it can find, use the name ANY

(all capital letters).

Transmit RateSelect a transmission rate:

v Auto 1 or 2 Mb

v 5.5 Mb

v 11 Mb

v Fully Automatic

Note: Fully Automatic selects the transmission rate that is optimal for thenetwork environment.

Power Save EnabledTo enable power management, select the Power Save Enabled check box.

AdHoc ChannelThe AdHoc Channel field is available only if you have selected 802.11 AdHocin the Mode field. Select a channel number from 1 to 14. In some countries,only 11 channels might be available.

EncryptionThis section describes the settings on the Encryption page.

Encryption (WEP)Select Disabled to disable encryption. Select 64 bit or 128 bit to enableencryption.

Create Key with PassphraseThis window allows you to enter a generic phrase consisting of any charactersthat takes the pass phrase and generate random keys automatically for you.

Create Key ManuallyIf you have enabled encryption and select this option, specify up to fourdifferent keys to decrypt data that is received by your computer through thewireless network. The keys must be hexadecimal values. If you have selected64-bit encryption, specify 10-digit hexadecimal values (for example,ABCD123456). If you have selected 128-bit encryption, specify 26-digithexadecimal values (for example, ABCD123456ABCD123456987654). The onlyvalid character entries are 0-9 and A-F.

Default KeySelect the key that is to be used to encrypt packets that will be transmittedfrom your computer.

Link Status

This section describes the settings on the Link page.

StateThis field displays the current connect status of the computer. The status canbe any of the following:

v The current station is disabled

v Searching for initial connection

v Associated (connected to a network)

v Reassociation (a current association is being transferred from one accesspoint to another)

Current channelThis field displays the number of the communication channel that is beingused by the network to which the computer is connected.

Current Tx RateThis field displays the data rate (in Mbits/sec) that is being used for datatransmission. If the Wireless LAN (PCI) Card is operating in AdHoc mode, thisfield will not show the correct value, because the field displays the date rateonly for the first frame.

ThroughputThis field displays the throughput rate (in bytes per second) of transmitted(Tx) and received (Rx) data.

Link QualityThis field displays the quality communication in relation to the network towhich the computer is connected.

Signal strengthThis field displays the strength of the signal in relation to the network towhich the computer is connected.

AboutThis page displays the version and built date of each component of the IBMWireless LAN Client Manager.

Adjusting the antenna orientation to get better performanceThe default antenna orientation pointing straight up, generally provides thebest signal strength and quality. Look at the icon tray and adjust theorientation of the antenna so that the optimal connection is achieved asdescribed in “Understanding the IBM Wireless LAN Client Manager Systemtray icon”.

Part 1 - General TermsThis Statement of Limited Warranty includes Part 1 - General Terms and Part 2- Country-unique Terms. The terms of Part 2 replace or modify those of Part 1.The warranties provided by IBM in this Statement of Limited Warranty applyonly to Machines you purchase for your use, and not for resale, from IBM oryour reseller. The term “Machine” means an IBM machine, its features,conversions, upgrades, elements, or accessories, or any combination of them.The term “Machine” does not include any software programs, whetherpre-loaded with the Machine, installed subsequently or otherwise. Unless IBMspecifies otherwise, the following warranties apply only in the country whereyou acquire the Machine. Nothing in this Statement of Limited Warrantyaffects any statutory rights of consumers that cannot be waived or limited bycontract. If you have any questions, contact IBM or your reseller.

The IBM Warranty for Machines

IBM warrants that each Machine 1) is free from defects in materials andworkmanship and 2) conforms to IBM’s Official Published Specifications(“Specifications”). The warranty period for a Machine is a specified, fixedperiod commencing on its Date of Installation. The date on your sales receipt isthe Date of Installation unless IBM or your reseller informs you otherwise.

If a Machine does not function as warranted during the warranty period, andIBM or your reseller are unable to either 1) make it do so or 2) replace it withone that is at least functionally equivalent, you may return it to your place ofpurchase and your money will be refunded.

Extent of Warranty

The warranty does not cover the repair or exchange of a Machine resultingfrom misuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operatingenvironment, improper maintenance by you, or failure caused by a product forwhich IBM is not responsible. The warranty is voided by removal or alterationof Machine or parts identification labels.

Items Not Covered by Warranty

IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of a Machine.

Any technical or other support provided for a Machine under warranty, suchas assistance via telephone with “how-to” questions and those regardingMachine set-up and installation, will be provided WITHOUT WARRANTIESOF ANY KIND.

Warranty Service

To obtain warranty service for a Machine, contact IBM or your reseller. If youdo not register your Machine with IBM, you may be required to present proofof purchase.

During the warranty period, IBM or your reseller, if approved by IBM toprovide warranty service, provides without charge certain types of repair andexchange service to keep Machines in, or restore them to, conformance withtheir Specifications. IBM or your reseller will inform you of the available typesof service for a Machine based on its country of installation. At its discretion,IBM or your reseller will 1) either repair or exchange the failing Machine and2) provide the service either at your location or a service center. IBM or yourreseller will also manage and install selected engineering changes that apply tothe Machine.

Some parts of IBM Machines are designated as Customer Replaceable Units(called “CRUs”), e.g., keyboards, memory, or hard disk drives. IBM ships CRUsto you for replacement by you. You must return all defective CRUs to IBMwithin 30 days of your receipt of the replacement CRU. You are responsible fordownloading designated Machine Code and Licensed Internal Code updatesfrom an IBM Internet Web site or from other electronic media, and followingthe instructions that IBM provides.

When warranty service involves the exchange of a Machine or part, the itemIBM or your reseller replaces becomes its property and the replacementbecomes yours. You represent that all removed items are genuine andunaltered. The replacement may not be new, but will be in good working orderand at least functionally equivalent to the item replaced. The replacementassumes the warranty service status of the replaced item. Many features,conversions, or upgrades involve the removal of parts and their return to IBM.A part that replaces a removed part will assume the warranty service status ofthe removed part.

Before IBM or your reseller exchanges a Machine or part, you agree to removeall features, parts, options, alterations, and attachments not under warrantyservice.

You also agree to1. ensure that the Machine is free of any legal obligations or restrictions that

prevent its exchange;2. obtain authorization from the owner to have IBM or your reseller service a

Machine that you do not own; and3. where applicable, before service is provided:

a. follow the problem determination, problem analysis, and service requestprocedures that IBM or your reseller provides;

b. secure all programs, data, and funds contained in a Machine;c. provide IBM or your reseller with sufficient, free, and safe access to

your facilities to permit them to fulfill their obligations; andd. inform IBM or your reseller of changes in a Machine’s location.

IBM is responsible for loss of, or damage to, your Machine while it is 1) inIBM’s possession or 2) in transit in those cases where IBM is responsible forthe transportation charges.

Neither IBM nor your reseller is responsible for any of your confidential,proprietary or personal information contained in a Machine which you returnto IBM or your reseller for any reason. You should remove all such informationfrom the Machine prior to its return.

Limitation of Liability

Circumstances may arise where, because of a default on IBM’s part or otherliability, you are entitled to recover damages from IBM. In each such instance,regardless of the basis on which you are entitled to claim damages from IBM(including fundamental breach, negligence, misrepresentation, or other contractor tort claim), except for any liability that cannot be waived or limited byapplicable laws, IBM is liable for no more than

1. damages for bodily injury (including death) and damage to real propertyand tangible personal property; and

2. the amount of any other actual direct damages, up to the charges (ifrecurring, 12 months’ charges apply) for the Machine that is subject of theclaim. For purposes of this item, the term “Machine” includes MachineCode and Licensed Internal Code.

This limit also applies to IBM’s suppliers and your reseller. It is themaximum for which IBM, its suppliers, and your reseller are collectivelyresponsible.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS IBM LIABLE FOR ANY OF THEFOLLOWING: 1) THIRD-PARTY CLAIMS AGAINST YOU FOR DAMAGES

Governing Law

Both you and IBM consent to the application of the laws of the country inwhich you acquired the Machine to govern, interpret, and enforce all of yourand IBM’s rights, duties, and obligations arising from, or relating in anymanner to, the subject matter of this Agreement, without regard to conflict oflaw principles.

Part 2 - Country-unique TermsAMERICAS

BRAZIL

Governing Law: The following is added after the first sentence:Any litigationarising from this Agreement will be settled exclusively by the court of Rio deJaneiro.

NORTH AMERICA

Limitation of Liability: The following is added to this Section: Where IBM is inbreach of a condition or warranty implied by the Trade Practices Act 1974 orother similar legislation, IBM’s liability is limited to the repair or replacementof the goods or the supply of equivalent goods. Where that condition orwarranty relates to right to sell, quiet possession or clear title, or the goods areof a kind ordinarily acquired for personal, domestic or household use orconsumption, then none of the limitations in this paragraph apply.

CAMBODIA, LAOS, AND VIETNAM

Governing Law: The following replaces “laws of the country in which you acquiredthe Machine” in the first sentence:laws of the State of New York.

The following is added to this Section: Disputes and differences arising out of orin connection with this Agreement shall be finally settled by arbitration whichshall be held in Singapore in accordance with the rules of the InternationalChamber of Commerce (ICC). The arbitrator or arbitrators designated inconformity with those rules shall have the power to rule on their owncompetence and on the validity of the Agreement to submit to arbitration. Thearbitration award shall be final and binding for the parties without appeal andthe arbitral award shall be in writing and set forth the findings of fact and theconclusions of law.

All proceedings shall be conducted, including all documents presented in suchproceedings, in the English language. The number of arbitrators shall be three,with each side to the dispute being entitled to appoint one arbitrator.

The two arbitrators appointed by the parties shall appoint a third arbitratorbefore proceeding upon the reference. The third arbitrator shall act as chairmanof the proceedings. Vacancies in the post of chairman shall be filled by thepresident of the ICC. Other vacancies shall be filled by the respectivenominating party. Proceedings shall continue from the stage they were at whenthe vacancy occurred.

If one of the parties refuses or otherwise fails to appoint an arbitrator within 30days of the date the other party appoints its, the first appointed arbitrator shallbe the sole arbitrator, provided that the arbitrator was validly and properlyappointed.

The English language version of this Agreement prevails over any otherlanguage version.

HONG KONG AND MACAU

Governing Law: The following replaces “laws of the country in which you acquiredthe Machine” in the first sentence: laws of Hong Kong Special AdministrativeRegion.

INDIA

Limitation of Liability: The following replaces items 1 and 2 of this Section:1. liability for bodily injury (including death) or damage to real property and

tangible personal property will be limited to that caused by IBM’snegligence;

2. as to any other actual damage arising in any situation involvingnonperformance by IBM pursuant to, or in any way related to the subjectof this Statement of Limited Warranty, IBM’s liability will be limited to thecharge paid by you for the individual Machine that is the subject of theclaim.

JAPAN

Governing Law: The following sentence is added to this Section:Any doubtsconcerning this Agreement will be initially resolved between us in good faithand in accordance with the principle of mutual trust.

NEW ZEALAND

The IBM Warranty for Machines: The following paragraph is added to this Section:The warranties specified in this Section are in addition to any rights you mayhave under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other legislation whichcannot be excluded or limited. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 will notapply in respect of any goods which IBM provides, if you require the goodsfor the purposes of a business as defined in that Act.

Limitation of Liability: The following is added to this Section: Where Machinesare not acquired for the purposes of a business as defined in the ConsumerGuarantees Act 1993, the limitations in this Section are subject to thelimitations in that Act.

PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA (PRC)

Governing Law: The following replaces this Section: Both you and IBM consent tothe application of the laws of the State of New York (except when local lawrequires otherwise) to govern, interpret, and enforce all your and IBM’s rights,duties, and obligations arising from, or relating in any manner to, the subjectmatter of this Agreement, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from or in connection with this Agreement will first beresolved by friendly negotiations, failing which either of us has the right tosubmit the dispute to the China International Economic and Trade ArbitrationCommission in Beijing, the PRC, for arbitration in accordance with itsarbitration rules in force at the time. The arbitration tribunal will consist ofthree arbitrators. The language to be used therein will be English and Chinese.An arbitral award will be final and binding on all the parties, and will beenforceable under the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement ofForeign Arbitral Awards (1958).

The arbitration fee will be borne by the losing party unless otherwisedetermined by the arbitral award.

During the course of arbitration, this Agreement will continue to be performedexcept for the part which the parties are disputing and which is undergoingarbitration.

EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST, AFRICA (EMEA)

THE FOLLOWING TERMS APPLY TO ALL EMEA COUNTRIES: The terms ofthis Statement of Limited Warranty apply to Machines purchased from IBM oran IBM reseller.

Warranty Service:

If you purchase an IBM Machine in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia,Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland orUnited Kingdom, you may obtain warranty service for that Machine in any ofthose countries from either (1) an IBM reseller approved to perform warrantyservice or (2) from IBM. If you purchase an IBM Personal Computer Machinein Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Federal Republic ofYugoslavia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova,Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, or Ukraine, you mayobtain warranty service for that Machine in any of those countries from either(1) an IBM reseller approved to perform warranty service or (2) from IBM.

If you purchase an IBM Machine in a Middle Eastern or African country, youmay obtain warranty service for that Machine from the IBM entity within thecountry of purchase, if that IBM entity provides warranty service in thatcountry, or from an IBM reseller, approved by IBM to perform warranty serviceon that Machine in that country. Warranty service in Africa is available within50 kilometers of an IBM authorized service provider. You are responsible fortransportation costs for Machines located outside 50 kilometers of an IBMauthorized service provider.

Governing Law:

The applicable laws that govern, interpret and enforce rights, duties, andobligations of each of us arising from, or relating in any manner to, the subjectmatter of this Statement, without regard to conflict of laws principles, as wellas Country-unique terms and competent court for this Statement are those ofthe country in which the warranty service is being provided, except that in 1)Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Former YugoslavRepublic of Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Armenia, Azerbaijan,Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan,Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, the laws of Austria apply; 2) Estonia,Latvia, and Lithuania, the laws of Finland apply; 3) Algeria, Benin, BurkinaFaso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Djibouti,Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Gambia,Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco,Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia, this Agreement will be construed and thelegal relations between the parties will be determined in accordance with theFrench laws and all disputes arising out of this Agreement or related to itsviolation or execution, including summary proceedings, will be settledexclusively by the Commercial Court of Paris; 4) Angola, Bahrain, Botswana,Burundi, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Liberia,Malawi, Malta, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda, SaoTome, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, United ArabEmirates, United Kingdom, West Bank/Gaza, Yemen, Zambia, and Zimbabwe,this Agreement will be governed by English Law and disputes relating to itwill be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts; and 5) inGreece, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and Spain any legal claim arising out of thisStatement will be brought before, and finally settled by, the competent court ofAthens, Tel Aviv, Milan, Lisbon, and Madrid, respectively.

The IBM Warranty for Machines: The following replaces the first sentence of thefirst paragraph of this Section: The warranty for an IBM Machine covers thefunctionality of the Machine for its normal use and the Machine’s conformityto its Specifications.

The minimum warranty period for Machines is six months. In case IBM oryour reseller is unable to repair an IBM Machine, you can alternatively ask fora partial refund as far as justified by the reduced value of the unrepairedMachine or ask for a cancellation of the respective agreement for such Machineand get your money refunded.

Extent of Warranty: The second paragraph does not apply.

Warranty Service: The following is added to this Section: During the warrantyperiod, transportation for delivery of the failing Machine to IBM will be atIBM’s expense.

Limitation of Liability: The following replaces item 2 in this Section: as to anyother actual direct damages, IBM’s liability will be limited to the total amountyou paid for the Machine that is the subject of the claim.
