LSGRequirements

The following tables list the hardware, software, and other materials needed to set up a lab to conduct a class for course RD792.

Hardware Requirements

Table 1 lists the hardware needed to prepare one student lab set. When preparing for a class, multiply the items below by the number of lab systems needed for the class.

Software Requirements

Table 2 lists the software needed to prepare the student and instructor lab sets. When preparing for a class, be sure you have the correct number of licensed copies of any non-IBM software.

Skills Required to Set Up the Lab

The following specialized skills are required to set up the lab:

• Installer must be familiar with installing products on Windows XP and must be familiar with the administration and customization of Windows XP.

WebSphere Application Server

Version 6.0

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Version 5.0 or later

Site must provide for private offerings

WinZip or equivalent

Instructor Same as student systema. All testing of these instructions and all testing of the lab exercises were conducted on systems running Win-dows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. All of the products listed above are supported on Windows NT run-ning at Service Pack 6a or higher, and on Windows 2000. The world-wide standard for this course is WindowsXP with SP2 applied. If other versions of Windows are required, it is up to the individual geographies to buildappropriate images and to test the labs and verify that they work in these environments. Because of differencesbetween Windows XP and other Windows versions, some operating system specific instructions in the lab ex-ercises may need to be modified when running with Windows NT or Windows 2000.

LSGSet Up Instructions

Configuration Information

The following sections describe the configurations of the student and lab systems.

Hardware Set Up Instructions

Use the following information in addition to the normal hardware installation procedures to set up the lab hardware.

__ 1. No special hardware setup is required other than the requirement for network (LAN) connectivity. If network connectivity is not available, you must still have the loopback adapter and TCP/IP stack installed, and you must be able to PING localhost. Internet access is preferred, as instructors may wish to demonstrate concepts with real-world examples.

Software Setup Instructions

Use the following information in addition to the normal software installation procedures to set up the lab software.

__ 1. Setting up Windows XP Professional1

__ a. Install Windows XP Professional (if not already installed).

__ b. Make sure that networking support is installed. If the system does not have a network adapter, the loopback adapter must be installed. If the loopback adapter is installed, it should be set with an IP address of 192.168.1.1 (or 10.0.0.1, if the 192.168.x.y range is used locally) and a mask of 255.255.255.0.

__ c. If networking support has been installed, it is recommended that students have access to the Internet. This allows them to access WebSphere and Rational related Web sites during the course.

__ d. Choose an appropriate local administrator ID and password. This must be made known to the instructor, who must inform the students (“userid” and “password” should no longer be used, according to IBM internal regulations).

__ e. Set the paging file size to an initial size of 2048 MB (or twice the memory size, whatever is bigger); set the maximum size to the same value. (Start up System from the Control Panel, select the Advanced tab, and click Performance Options... and then click Change... under the Virtual memory section.) It is best to install the pagefile on a partition by itself. The partition should be about 50

1 See comments in the Software Requirements section about the use of other Windows systems. These are not supported environmentsfor this course, but they are supported environments for the products to be installed. Course support of Windows systems other thanWindows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 is up to the individual geographies that want to run them.

to 100 MB larger than the pagefile itself. After the paging file has been initialized, make sure that the page file on the original system drive is reduced to a size of about 10 MB (both minimum and maximum). File system for this partition is less important.

__ 2. Install Windows XP Service Pack 2(SP2).

__ 3. Install critical Microsoft Windows security updates.

__ 4. Log on with the userid and password chosen in step 1d above.

__ 5. Install Adobe Acrobat Reader, Version 5.0 (or higher).

__ 6. Install WinZip, Version 8.0 (or higher).

__ 7. Install the IBM Installation Manager.

__ a. Insert the IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software CD 1 into the CD drive to begin the installation. If autorun has been disabled, run launchpad.exe from the CD.

__ b. Click the Install IBM Rational Application Developer V7.0 link.

__ c. After a few moments, the IBM Installation Manager appears. Click Next.

__ d. Select the I Accept the terms in the license agreement radio button and click Next.
