Have a happy retirement! j-y-\j-y-\r\j~\nj-\r\j-u-\r^ The Iberia Parish Library is bidding a happy retirement to Mrs. Melva Patton, who after 28 years of serving the public at the Main Library will retire on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Born in Grand Marais, Louisiana, Mrs. Patton graduated from Jeanerette High School and received a degree from a Business School in New Orleans. She began working with the library when Carla Hostetter served as Library Director. Current Library Director Kathy Miles states, "It has been a pleasure working with Mrs. Patton in the 25 years I have been with the library. She has taken the many changes of the library profession in stride with a calm demeanor and a friendly smile." Patton began working when computers, dvds, copy machines and other technology were not part of daily library work. She remembers the card catalog fondly but wonders how she was able to function without the help of a computer. Over the years she has met the challenges of modem technology and the changes that have occurred at the library. Patton said, "I grew to love the library so much, I decided to stay longer than I planned. I am excited for retirement, but will miss the staff and patrons that I love talking to and providing assistance to on a daily basis. I cherish every kind 'thank you' that was given. I am thankful to everyone for my years shared at the library and I plan to relax and travel in the future."

The Iberia Parish Library is bidding a happy retirement to Mrs. MelvaPatton, who after 28 years of serving the public at the Main Library will

retire on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Born in Grand Marais, Louisiana,Mrs. Patton graduated from Jeanerette High School and received a degree

from a Business School in New Orleans. She began working with the librarywhen Carla Hostetter served as Library Director.

This fall at the library, make sure to take advantage of the helpfulbeginner computer classes being held at the Main Branch starting inthe month of September. The classes are designed to help you with

basic computer skills that cover the most popular everydayoperations. The classes are free, and the computers are provided. Allyou need to do is register by calling the Main Library at 364.7024.

September starts the Adult Workshops, and what better way to kick offthe season than learning how to use Facebook more easily! This socialmedia phenomenon is not only for teens and young adults! After you

attend the class, you will have learned how to connect with friends andfamily, check and receive messages, make posts to your wall as well as

others', customize your privacy settings and much, much more! All youhave to do is call the Main Library and register at 364.7024. Two classes

are available for your convenience.

**The only three requirements are:=> You must be 18 years or older.

=> Have some basic computer skills. (Internet Explorer)=> Have an e-mail address account.

For Some Football!?The Impact of Louisiana on Professional Football

Mrs. Ann Patout is no stranger atthe Parkview Library. She has been

volunteering in the GenealogyDepartment along with

Mrs. Shirley Broussard since thebranch opened in 2006. RecentlyAnn received an award from the

Volunteer Genealogy Commission,a part of the Louisiana Society ofDAR (Daughters of the AmericanRevolution) recognizing her hardwork and dedication in the NewIberia chapter. This award is on

display at the Parkview Library inthe Genealogy room.

Without Mrs. Patout and othervolunteers it would be impossibleto accommodate the high demandthat the genealogy room generates.A special thanks to her! The award

went to a very deserving person.
