We are Spain’s leading airline and market leader on air routes between Europe and Latin America.

With our wholly-owned Iberia Express unit and our franchise partner Air Nostrum, we fly to a hundred destinations around the world.

In January, 2011 we merged with British Airways to become a part of IAG, Europe’s third-largest airline group and the world’s sixth largest by revenues.

Passenger transport: we are Spain’s leading airline and market leader on Europe-Latin America routes.

Iberia Maintenance: we inspect, maintain and repair our oun aircraft, including aiframes, engines and parts, and those of about a hundred clients all over the world.

Airport passenger and aircraft handling services: Spain’s largest and sole full-service handling operator.

Air cargo: IAG Cargo, resulting from the merger of Iberia Cargo and British Airways World Cargo, offers wide-bodied aircraft hold space to the world’s 120 most important 120 freight destinations, and more capacity than any other carrier.

Iberia’s flight operation hub is located at the T4 complex at Madrid-Barajas, one of Europe’s most modern airports and the one with the greatest growth potential, recently named by Skytrax the third best terminal in the world.

It is from here that some 90% of our flights operate and 70% of passengers’ long-haul connections are made.

Iberia is the world’s third most punctual airline, according to Flightstats, with an overall rating of 90%.

New iberia.com webite: a digital revolution in the airline industry, our new site is more intuitive than ever in finding and booking flights, and very easy to use, adapting to and interacting with each customer individually, and offering products à la carte.

Iberia Plus: our loyality programme boasts more than 5 million members, who are rewarded for their Iberia Group flights and purchases for Iberia Plus partners with Avios which can be redeemed for flights or other services.

7. Our new Business Plus

Greater comfort: Iberia’s new Business Class for long haul flights features extra-wide seats that unfold into flat beds 1.95 m long, more comfort and privacy, moodlighting and direct access to the aisle from each seat.

Entertainment: Business Plus passengers enjoy individual 15.4” touch screens, including 50 films, 80 TV series, documentaries, 200 musical options and 3D games.

The best restaurant on board: Business Plus menus are designed by four of the most famous Spanish chefs, each of them holding two Michelin stars. There is also a wine list featuring Spanish wines, changed every three months.

Internet: Wi-Fi and GSM texting capability (SMS and data) through personal devices (coming soon) and connection port for Apple devices, a universal power socket and a USB port.

Available on board of the Airbus A330, which flies to New York, Miami and Chicago, and in a third of the Airbus A340-600 fleet, which fly to 14 Latin American destinations.

JBA

In 2010 Iberia, American Airlines and British Airways signed a Joint Business Agreement to operate on North Atlantic routes. Finnair joined the agreement in July, 2013.

The four airlines offer 554 destinations, 190 daily flights and 7 connecting hubs(Madrid, London-Heathrow, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and Dallas).

9. Alliances

Iberia offers facilities for special needed passengers, using cargo hold space to transport humanitarian aid to disaster zones, and support employee NGOs such as Mano a Mano, which collects and delivers humanitarian aid materials, and APMIB, the association of employees with disabled children, providing care facilities, job training and opportunities, etc.

Iberia is also heavily committed to a environmental protection, both in its flying and maintenance operations and by participating in outside projects, such as the collection of air samples at different altitudes and locations as part of the EU’s IAGOS air quality programme, and research in alternative aviation fuels. It furnishes its customers the means to estimate and to offset their “carbon footprints by contributing to reforestation projects.

10. Corporate Social Responsibility

1927 Iberia, Compañía Aérea de Transportes, S.A. was founded on 28th June with a starting capital of 1,100,000 pesetas (6,611.13 euros), supplied by the Basque entrepreneur Horacio Echebarrieta and the Deutsche Lufthansa company. Six months later, on 14 December, it began regular flights between Madrid and Madrid-Barcelona.

1939 The first foreign route, to Lisbon, was launched, followed in the 1940s by scheduled service to London, Rome, Paris, and Geneva.

1946 Its first flight to Buenos Aires, in a DC-4 on 22 September, made Iberia an intercontinental airline and the first in Europe to fly to South America.

1954 Iberia opened its Madrid-New York services, flying three Super Constellations that it named for Columbus’ ships, the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

1970 Iberia took delivery of its first Boeing B-747, or “Jumbo”, the world first wide-bodied commercial airliners, and named it for Spain’s most celebrated author: Miguel de Cervantes, who penned Don Quixote.

1974 The Puente Aéreo, (“air bridge”), which Madrid-Barcelona air shuttle was called, soon became the world’s busiest shuttle service. In the same year Iberia fielded its “chaqueta roja “ [red jacket] brigade to assist passengers with special needs or problems at airports. The Serviberia call centre and ticket reservation service also opened.

1981 Iberia’s first Airbus, an A-300, joined the fleet.

1991 With Iberia Plus, Iberia launched Europe's first international frequent flyers programme.

2001 Iberia was privatised and its shares listed on the stock market. The following year it was admitted to Spain’s Ibex-35 stock index.

2004 Iberia was selected for listing on the Dow Jones Stoxx index of environmentally “sustainable” companies.

2006 Iberia moved all its Madrid flying operations to the new Terminal 4 complex at Madrid-Barajas airport.

2011 On 24 January Iberia and British Airways merged to create a commercial aviation giant, Europe's third largest and the world’s sixth largest by revenues
