Dear Parents,

Today we celebrate another important day in the history of Malaysia. The students and staff have taken part in a parade and activities to ensure everyone understands the importance of Malaysia Day. As a group of schools on one campus it is important that we all under-stand the importance tomorrow plays in celebrating Malaysia’s past, present and future. May I take this opportunity to wish all Malaysians a Happy Malaysia Day.

Upgrade of Sports Facilities I am delighted to announce that the upgrade of our sports facilities will begin in December 2017. A huge thank you to our partner SP Setia for agreeing to this development and for funding the entire operation. Without their support this development would not have gone ahead and I thank them for ensuring all our students will be able to continue using our first class facilities well into the future. Further details on how this development will be managed will be available before the end of term. Parking & Traffic This week I have opened up an extra 16 parking bays that were previously designated as reserved parking. The extra bays next to Early Years are only available up to 12:00pm as they are used by various transporters at the end of the day. Signs will be erected to give you clear direction of their use. Please do not park your cars in the middle of the school roads and leave them unattended, we will clamp you. Please use the drop off points provided if you cannot find a parking bay. Parent Information Evenings Thank you to all the TIS parents who were able to attend the information evening that started this week. These sessions will continue over the next few weeks so please check the school calendar for future dates. Music Auditions Auditions for our next music competition will take place on Tuesday 19.09.2017. This is a joint house competition so students from all schools can enter and earn house points. Swimming Gala There will be a Swimming Gala for KS3 and KS4 on Tuesday 26.09.2017, please encourage your child to sign up in the house assembly next Tuesday with their head of house. Please note that there will be no newsletter next week as the school is off for Awal Muharram. Have a lovely weekend.

Walking around the primary school, it has been lovely to see all of the children’s faces displayed in different

ways on boards outside of classrooms. We have ‘super heroes’ in Year 4, ‘pointillism’ in Year 6 and ‘Pop

Corn’ in Early Years.

Essential Agreements:

All classes have also done ‘Essential Agreements’. These are agree-

ments between the teacher their class which the children wrote with their

teachers and discussed the importance of certain behaviours and choic-

es. The children are then reminded of these if they start to go off task.

We are really driving forward ‘Good choices’ and behavioural expecta-

tions around school.

The children have been practising this all week. Ms. Carrissa

has also taught her children to sing along with her guitar.

Please practise the words at home—the next verse will follow in

the next Newsletter.

Can I take this opportunity to welcome all parents, both new and

old. We have had a great start to the new school year and I am

very proud of the children who are looking smart in school uni-

forms. It is important that children have the correct attire for the

different activates they do. If they have lessons they must be in

uniform and if they are doing PE then they must be wearing cor-

rect school PE kit. Children get very sweaty and need to

change in to uniforms as it is uncomfortable and unhygienic for

them to be sat in sweaty clothes whilst in the classroom. Thank

you for supporting the school with these expectations.

Have a lovely Malaysia Day weekend and thank you for your

Prefects:

I have personally met with our wonderful Year 6 Prefects. We have discussed their role and they are taking

ownership over a display board. This board will inform all of the other children and school community about

their role as we begin to empower our wonderful prefects.

Eco and Charity:

Watch out for this selection process in the coming Weekly Letters! Talk to your children about the word ‘Eco’

and what this means. Why Charity? The selection process will be fun and is being led by super Ms. Malar

again this year. The children will have ownership over events and how we support charities. Over to you Eco

and Charity warriors!

Choir:

The auditions have begun! We have introduced a choir this year and auditions are open. Ms. Antonia is choos-

ing children who will practise at lunch times and serenade us in assemblies and at other events.

DT and Art:

The lunch time clubs have begun. Children have been invited to develop their skills, you will begin to see lots

of this Art and DT around school.

Weekly letters:

Please check the portal every Friday for Weekly letters and other information. This week IPC challenges and

Spelling have also been uploaded. The Curriculum Handbooks are currently being updated and will contain all

the information from the ‘Meet and Greet’ sessions. We will have these ready for Friday 29th September.

In SST, we (PA and teachers) continuously strive to enhance the way we communicate with our community of students, parents and teachers. We believe that the manner in which we communicate and interact with parents, affects the extent and quality of parents' home involvement with their children's learning.

Our goal is to reach out to our SST Community with the HIGHLIGHTS of important information which matters most. This is not meant to replace our existing channels eg Newsletter or Parents Portal, but simply to call out important and immediate matters on a weekly/bi weekly basis. We welcome your feedback to make this even more effective.

Form 3 and Form 5 PTD The booking of the F3 PTD meeting is available via Parent Portal from Tuesday 12.09.2017. All report cards will be published to Engage Parent Portal and can be downloaded on Tuesday 26.09.2017.

2017 “Young China” International Youth Culture and Arts Festival 《同根同梦•2017“少年中国”国际青少年文化艺术节》 On Saturday 17.06.2017, 8 Tenby Drummers attended the Final Round of “Youth China” International Youth Culture and Arts Festival 2017 at SJK(C) Chee Wen. Congratulations to Michael Thong (F4S), Sherlyn Mah(F4A), Ka Yee(F4A), Natalie Khor(F4A), Ye Jie(F4M), Nurul Nadiah(F4M), Shuen Man(F4M) and Zheng Tao(F3A). Tenby Drummers Team is one of the 200 finalist, selected from the 1000 registered candidates from whole Malaysia. Our team was awarded a national status certificate by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
