COUNCILOR`S REPORT
1. Absent Council Delegates and Abstract Presenters -- due to U.S. President’s travel ban that interrupted normal VISA approvals for >100 attendees from certain countries.
2. IADDR President’s Report – Focused on ethics and recruiting youthful new members.
3. Membership Falls – 8.5% reduction overall but varies by country.4. New IADR Science Information Committee – to develop formal
policy statements for IADR.5. IADR “Group Handbook” guidelines for standardization of group
operations. Auditors requiring IADR groups to file under IADR return rather than separately. Follow up step was to get Groups to function in uniform manner. Parts of the Handbook are very prescriptive and suggestion in Council made to be more flexible.
6. Title of IADR Executive Director (ED) will be changed to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a political move to insure better “seat at the table” in key forums.
(Stephen Bayne for Sibel Antonson)
7. Past Year Meetings Report – 2016 Korea meeting very successful both scientifically and financially. 2016 Israeli meeting (PER) very successful scientifically but not financially, and it was underwritten by IADR.
8. Small Dues Increase: Approved9. Meeting Cycle Shift – IA/AA/CA combined meeting will be
shifted to even years to avoid conflicts with Dental Trade Association meetings in Europe that has precluded full participation.
10.Contingency Planning: For the future there will be careful planning in case of global political impacts on meeting.
Strategic Thinking Session: Council input on --(a) Increasing membership and meeting attendance, and (b) Suggesting alternatives to President nomination process.
