Hesed is a Hebrew word used in the Old Testament to describe the eternally loyal, lavish, extravagant, unrestrained, compassionate, merciful love of our Father God. As recipients of this divine love, we desire to emulate His compassion in our attitudes and actions towards others, particularly toward people living with HIV/AIDS. I’d like to introduce myself ! My name is Julia Zentner, I am from Calgary, and just moved to Winnipeg this February. I have been working at the House of Hesed since February 5 th of this year, as a resident care worker, and was hired as the fundraiser in the middle of March. I wanted to introduce myself to the “family” of Hesed as a way of keeping all of you in the loop; as you are all part of this flourishing ministry, and have been since before I came along. The reason why I moved to Winnipeg is this: I had just graduated from my bachelor’s degree (of Behavioural Science) and wanted God to send me somewhere. I was planning to spend a year internationally, but the Lord stopped me on two different occasions. So that wasn’t an option. Around this time, on a missions Sunday at church, I was handed an insert that told me about Many Rooms Church Community that is here in Winnipeg. Many Rooms is a group of house churches that lives and ministers in the Spence Community. I thought this was beautiful, and felt lead to come visit. God brought me to visit for a short time earlier this year, and then He made a way for me to move here; a room opened in the shared house that the founding family of Many Rooms owns, and I was connected to House of Hesed. I believe that God strategically placed me at Hesed; a place where He is revealing His anointing over me. I look forward to opportunities I will have to meet all of you won- derful people and walk alongside you as we continue to grow and evolve together. I ask for prayer in this new position; that I look to God’s leading and listen to His voice, rather than my (or our) own vision, for unity within our core fundraising team (Moe Feakes, Brigitte Savard, and myself) and the larger staff body, and for courage to do things that are sometimes scary. Abba spoke to me through this verse, affirming every step I (and we) take: Zechariah 4:10 “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”

I’d like to introduce myself !

My name is Julia Zentner, I am from Calgary, and just moved to Winnipeg this February. I have been working at the House of Hesed since February 5th of this year, as a resident care worker, and was hired as the fundraiser in the middle of March.

A few staff members are missing but you

get the idea! Beautiful bunch of people!

In Honour and Memory of our Eleanor (Elly)

Passed into Eternal Life, 2018

Eleanor was a teeny tiny spitfire of a woman who was a joy to be around. In all the years I knew Elly I can honestly say I never heard her say a negative word about anyone. No matter how badly some people treated her, no matter how much they may have disappointed her, she refused to be negative. I asked her once how she could be so positive all the time and so seemingly full of joy. Her response was, “I have a choice eve-ry morning, I can be miserable or I can be happy, I choose happy. It’s not always easy but I want to be Happy, so that is what I do”. She brought sunshine into the house, everyone loved to be with Elly. Her infectious, childlike laughter was like music to my ears, it lifted my spirit to hear her. Elly’s life was far from easy and I dare say, a great many people would not have survived some of the experiences she lived through. Elly struggled with several serious health issues, and although she never admitted it we could see that she was exhausted with all of the emotional and physical pain. She grew much more weary in the months be-fore her death and just needed to sleep. Elly was deeply spiritual and had a very intimate relationship with Jesus. She knew where she would be spending eternity and was very much looking forward to be re-united with her husband. She was greatly LOVED. I miss my little Elly but I am happy that she is FREE!!

In Honour and Memory of Charles (A.K.A moe’s Boyfriend)

Passed into Eternal Life, 2018

When Charles first arrived here at Hesed he was extremely ill and would stay in bed for days on end. We were all very concerned about him. But, wow, was he ever a feisty, independent guy. He fought hard to regain his health and his inde-pendence and he certainly did accomplish that. It was wonderful to see him transform from a very ill man with extremely limited mobility to the guy who would get all gussied up, put on his cap, spray on some Axe and with a spring in his step and go out to take on the world. He had

great wisdom, a wonderful sense of humour and great pride. He could be a little “testy” sometimes, but it never lasted too long and before you knew it he would have a smile plastered on his face and say something funny, which was his way of apologizing. Oh, Charles, we do miss you so much, but have no doubt that you are enjoying your new and im-proved life. You are free to do whatever you choose and I know you will have some great conversations with Jesus. To quote Charles, “I have never been loved and cared for the way I was at “the house.” We did in-deed love him and enjoyed having him in our family even if it was for too short a time. Thank you God for Charles, he was quite a guy!
