Celebrating 32 years of Communication excellence, the International Association of Business Communicators/Las Vegas (IABC/Las Vegas) is the statewide chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, an international network of professionals engaged in strategic business communication management. the mission of IABC/Las Vegas is to promote ethical standards of conduct; offer members career, professional, and leadership opportunities; and foster an atmosphere of support, growth, and community involvement.

throughout the year IABC/Las Vegas presents professional development seminars, workshops and national speakers for the benefit of local communication professionals and students. we also support IABC’s international accreditation program to help members enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities. the chapter is a co-sponsor of the public relations certificate program at university of nevada, Las Vegas.

Founded in 1978, IABC/Las Vegas has earned international recognition throughout its 32-year history, including twice being named outstanding small Chapter of the year (1996/1997 board and 1999/2000 board). It was also named International Chapter of the year in 1997 (1996/1997 board), a major accomplishment for a small chapter (under 75 members) competing against the largest chapters in the world. For the 2008 Chapter Management Awards, IABC/Las Vegas received one Award of excellence in Leadership development, and four Awards of Merit in Membership Marketing, Professional development, student Involvement, and Branding for the 2007/2008 board year.

Putting Las Vegas’ new performing arts center in the limelight.Scheduled to open in 2012 near downtown Las Vegas, The Smith Center will be a world-class performing arts center that will put Southern Nevada on an international stage. eurie creative is honored to play a role in the launch communications. Recently, we created a beautiful, oversized fundraising brochure that tells the story of The Smith Center. We also designed a stylish invitation to its “Topping Out” ceremony, which took place on February 25th in Symphony Park. At the event, the final piece of Reynolds Hall was raised, taking it to its highest point of 170 feet. To learn more about The Smith Center, visit TheSmithCenter.com.

The Colors of Lupus gets a new look. After working with Hui Lim, Excecutive Director for the Colors of Lupus of Nevada for over a year, a new look for this organization was in order. Keeping guests up to speed with events, entertainment and more. How shall we describe The Style File? It’s new, it’s now, it’s stylish and sassy. It’s The Venetian’s and The Palazzo’s in-room, bi-weekly publication to help guests take advantage of amenities, activities, events, entertainment, and much more. Our design serves up these appetizing tidbits of information with a tasteful updated layout.

It’s e Bunny time again. Here in the Las Vegas Valley, thousands of children experience a degree of poverty that most of us would find alarming. They live in temporary housing, in shelters, and in the streets. e Bunny is an organization that makes it convenient for you to make a difference for these kids. If you buy an Easter Basket (typically $7-$15 at a major retailer like Walmart, Target or K-Mart), they’ll make sure it gets delivered to a kid who lives in poverty. Last year, E Bunny delivered 2,750 baskets. This year, eurie creative is accepting baskets on behalf of E Bunny. Get your basket to us, we’ll get it to E Bunny, they’ll give it to a kid in need, and you’ll feel great. To coordinate your drop off or to learn more, contact us at [email protected].

Back in the good old days of advertising, New York and Chicago were the only two cities that mattered. Men wore Aqua Velva. Women wore pointy bras. Every agency had bullpens and paste-up artists. Every employee smoked on the job. And three martini lunches were considered a viable account retention strategy.

Our challenge was to design a mailing piece to notify the new ACE Club member such that the magnitude of receiving this honor is unmistakable. The resulting design is deceptively simple and elegant. It required countless hours and engineering and prototyping to complete the finished product.

Free 15-Minute CPR Training Highlights Save A Life Week, Nov. 13 - 20 Goal Is To Expose At Least 3,000 People To Hands-Only CPR

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is teaming up with University Medical Center (UMC) and the YMCA of Southern

Nevada, to offer chest compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness training during Save A Life Week, Nov. 13-20, at locations citywide. The free training takes 15 minutes and is open to all ages.

Citizen CPR Foundation selected the city of Las Vegas to receive 500 CPR mannequins, which are making training stops throughout the country before arriving in San Diego for the National Emergency Cardiac Care meeting in December.

“In Las Vegas, bystander CPR is only performed 30 percent of the time,” said Mike Myers, deputy fire chief for the city of Las Vegas. “It’s our goal to expose at least 3,000 individuals to hands-only CPR, which will boost confidence levels and help improve survival rates. Just 15 minutes of training could save a life.”

CPR is one of the most important links in the American Heart Association’s Chain of Survival that includes early 911, early CPR, early defibrillation and early advanced care. Victims who receive bystander CPR prior to emergency medical services arrival have an almost 300 percent increased chance of survival. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the life-saving procedure.

“UMC is very proud to take part in this community event,” said UMC CEO Kathy Silver. “What people are

learning at the Save a Life events can truly keep someone alive until emergency personnel arrive on scene to transport the patient to the hospital for further care.”

Mike Lubbe, YMCA president and CEO, added that the YMCA is proud to partner with the city of Las Vegas and UMC for this important campaign.

"At the Y, we help people achieve better health outcomes and encourage everyone to get involved to make our community a better place,” Lubbe said. “Taking 15 minutes to get familiar with CPR skills is a simple, yet powerful way to do just that."

From Tests to Treatments, Southern Nevada Oncologist

Helped PROVENGE Reach FDA Approval

Autologous cellular immunotherapy treatment for prostate cancer

is first in a new class of cancer therapies

LAS VEGAS—Internationally renown researcher and Medical Oncologist with Comprehensive

Cancer Centers of Nevada, Nicholas Vogelzang completed a journey only a handful of his peers

can claim. He participated in the early testing phases of a novel treatment, continued his work up

to and during the authorization process and then began using the approved therapy for his

patients.

He is also credited for administering PROVENGE® (sipuleucel-T) to the first Nevada patient.

When Dendreon Corporation announced on May 1, 2010, that the U.S. Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) had approved PROVENGE, which uses a patient’s white blood cells to

fight an advanced form of prostate cancer, Dr. Vogelzang witnessed more than a decade’s worth

of his work come to fruition. Within moments of the announcement, he quickly secured approval

to treat his prostate cancer patients with the new therapy.

“We worked hard to get a clinical trial like this in Nevada and I am excited that patients in Las

Vegas now have access to this treatment,” said Dr. Vogelzang. “In the not too distant future, it is

very possible that prostate cancer patients will get the therapy when they are not so ill and have a

better chance of long term survival.”

PROVENGE is designed to create an immune response against prostatic acid phosphatase, which

is found in most prostate cancers, by mixing a person’s white blood cells with a bioengineered

molecule.

Once approved to receive PROVENGE, a prostate cancer patient is required to donate his white

Natural gas has a smaller carbon footprint and fewer greenhouse gases when compared to coal, oil, propane, or electricity. It’s greener than you think.

It’s nationally abundant More than 98.5% of the natural gas used in the U.S. is produced in North America. With current natural gas supplies expected to last 100-plus years, using natural gas to fuel our energy needs will help reduce our reliance on foreign imports, and increase our nation’s energy security.

It’s the greener fossil fuel Natural gas has a high energy density that allows it to work harder and more efficiently with less waste. As a result, it has a smaller carbon footprint and fewer greenhouse gases when compared to coal, oil, propane or electricity. Converting your home heating and water heating systems to natural gas can reduce your home’s carbon footprint by 81%, which is the equivalent of planting 2.75 acres of trees, or driving 26,520 fewer miles each year.
