Hello Ambassadors!
Firstly, we do apologize for being a bit late on the newsletter. As you can see, it is a very extensive issue, which caused a delay. I wanted to thank each of you for all that you do each day. Keeping up with your own classes while also helping others keep up with theirs can be quite stressful but you all handle it well. I will be checking in with all matched mentors and all mentees in the coming weeks so please be diligent in checking your emails. In this edition of the newsletter, you will find a message from the program director, the final numbers on the service project (amazing job), a sample schedule for mentees, Ambassador of the Month Galena Belcher, and much more. In the edition, we have also chosen to recognize every Ambassador and Alumni because without you all, we have nothing. We have also added a section titled, “Ambassador Talents”, this is a volunteer submission section by Ambassadors. The officer board is planning to do this monthly so if you wish to be featured please email me at [email protected] using the subject line Newsletter Submission. Cindy Sanders Chapter President
Hello Ambassadors – As many of you know, there are three open Liaison positions on the officer board. I would like to thank the current officers for taking on the added workload but they need help. Soon after break week, we will be taking applications for these positions. Make sure you are all checking your emails so you do not miss the opportunity to apply! The work is hard and continuous but it is an excellent way to gain valuable skills needed in life. I encourage anyone interested to apply. Bradley Govender Program Director
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
― Benjamin Franklin
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The su-perior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
― William Arthur Ward
The final numbers are in and all I can say is "WOW!" We were presented with a service project in May and with the help of all the Ambassadors, we did an outstanding job. We collected 1020 cards, stationery and sent pens to match. On behalf of myself and the Officer Board I would like to thank you for your support, Also, On behalf of the entire Online Chapter we extend gratitude and thanks to Program Director Bradley Govender and the Everest staff that assisted in getting the cards sorted and in the mail to USO. We all did an awe-some job with May's service project. Stay tuned for the next service project com-ing soon.....-Desi Curry Vice President
The Ambassador Talent section of the newsletter is a volunteer submission sec-tion. Ambassadors featured have submitted some of their favorite things and tal-ents for your viewing and reading pleasure. Talents and hobbies this month in-
clude cooking, family recipes, and poetry. This will serve as a way to give Ambas-sadors a place to showcase their talents. No matter what your talent or hobby
may be - you have a place here. If you would like to be featured, send an email to Chapter President Cindy Sanders with subject line “Newsletter Submission”.
We thank all Ambassadors that participated this month!
Cookin’ with Kristin! One of Ambassador Kristin Wear’s hobbies is cooking. She shares her passion with her son. She says, “I love cooking, it is absolutely one of my favorite things to do. I have taken culinary classes, have competed in a competition, and have done career shadowing for cooking. I would love to do this as a career, but my path right now is Criminal Justice. I have been cooking for at least 17 years. My son is three and I hope that he learns this special skill to make someone’s tummy's happy one day also.” - Kristin Wear
Good Eats with Carla! Ambassador Carla R. en-joys creating art with her cooking and says, “I am submitting a picture of one of my latest dish-es-a simple dinner salad. I have been cooking since the age of nine. I started helping my moth-er cook, after which I developed a love for it. I re-ally enjoy serving people and making them smile. The art of cooking allows me to do so. I also love making food look good. Food can be very beauti-ful. I hope to continue cooking and teach my chil-dren how much fun and fulfilling cooking can be.”- Carla R.
Poems that feed the soul! Ambassador Amanda Abbott enjoys writing poetry as well as cooking delicious food! She states, “I enjoy writing poems in my free time and I cook Greek gyro’s very well.” She wishes to share a poem titled, Perfect.
You think I am a star
Think I am perfect even when I can't be
I haven't made it that to become a star
As you can see, I am just me
Your eyes must lie to you
You say I am and I say I'm not
Because I'm not I think I got to please you
Everyday is another day you think I'm hot
I think I have to hide to be by your side
To you I don't, you want me to say
That you will or never have lied
When I realized that, you're that, that will be the day
You say" you are perfect to me"
Even though nobody can be
Food from generations past! Ambassador Shell Chason enjoys creating recipes that have been passed down from her great grandmother to her father to her. She says, “I had dreams of owning my own restaurant when I was younger. My father taught me how to cook when I was younger. I learned everything though him. His grandmother taught him how to cook when he was little and he passed down his recipes to me. My dream has always been to be a great cook like my father.” - Shell Chason
Cheesy Pasta with Chicken
Ingredients:
Noodles (pretty much any type will be good)
Pasta Sauce
Chicken (can be grilled or crispy chucks)
1 package of shredded cheese
1 onion sliced and chopped
1 bell pepper sliced and chopped
1 tomato (preferably a big one no small ones it can take two or more if its a small one)
Water
Directions:
Bring the noodles to boil on medium heat while you’re waiting for those you can start cooking the chicken or heating precooked chicken.
Once you got the pan ready to put the chicken in make sure you spray it with some cooking spray or olive oil. I love using olive oil it brings out the flavoring. You will also need to flavor the chicken to bring out the textures of it.
I would suggest French fry seasoning or even some season salt it brings out the flavors of the chicken itself. Now that you have, the chicken heating up and the noodles boiling you will start chopping up the vegetables my favorite part because I like to sauté my onions with my peppers and tomatoes it brings the pasta more flavor as well as give the chicken the extra flavoring it needs.
Once the chicken is fully cooked, you can mix the onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers together so they can sauté a little bit on low-medium. This will be about the time you will drain your noodles make sure you wash the noodles then pour it back into the pot.
Pour the tomato sauce into the pan with the noodles, this will be where you can mix the sauce good into the noodles then after the chicken, tomatoes, onion, and bell pepper are done mix into the pasta and stir it up re-al good. The pasta is now ready for the cheese you can put as much cheese as you want if you like cheesy I would add the whole package it will come out delicious trust me. This should feed about a big crowd of 2-6 people depending on how much they can eat.
I knew the day we met That we were meant to be I knew our fate was set That you were the one for me I didn't even know you I only knew your name I wasn't sure what to do I didn't know who to blame
I knew I thought you attractive I could tell that you were nice The butterflies were so active That I couldn't think twice
Everything I did that day Didn't show you who I am Every time you came my way My heart began to ram
My actions weren't natural My reactions weren't real I felt so very terrible But my heart I did not wield
And when the group said goodbye to me My eyes were fixed on you I knew I was trying to see If you felt the same way too
I liked you when I saw your face But maybe it was the touch My heart had begun to race I already liked you too much
I knew the day we met That we were meant to be I knew our fate was set As friends, as lovers
Poetry for the Heart! Ambassador Lisa Shaw is a talented poet who enjoys writing about any subject. With one book published and another close she wishes to share a poem title “Love? No. Fate? Definitely” - Lisa Shaw

Garlena Belcher’s academic journey began much like most students – rocky. In the beginning, the biggest challenge she faced was taking the initiative to return to school and get the best education she deserves. Everest University has made that possible for her. As she progressed through her Associates degree, she had average grades. Always striving for excellence - she utilized the resources at Everest
University, such as APA formatting to bring her grades up. Presently, Garlena is an A and B student. Although she wanted to become an Igniter Ambassador dur-ing her AS, she declined to join because she did not think she would be able to help anyone as she felt that she did not understand many things associated with being a college student. Wow! How things change :)
Being a member of the IA program, Garlena has overcome many challenges - the biggest challenge being asking for help when she needs it and offering help to others. In addition, she has made many new friends throughout her time with Everest University online by being active in the Facebook lounges and assisting any student that needs help.
Garlena’s experience with the IA program has been great thus far. She was re-cently assigned a mentee, who she keeps in contact with on a daily basis. Since working with Garlena, the mentees grades and confidence has been raised consid-erably. You see, being an Igniter Ambassador is not all about assisting in course work. Sometimes that extra boost of confidence of just having someone to listen to your personal struggles helps tremendously.
Garlena states that being in the IA program has helped her achieve goals and strive to become a better student so that she can illuminate a path for others to follow. In addition, being a member of the IA program means a lot to her because
she is able to help others and provide a support system for struggling students. In her life outside of school (yes, there is such a thingJ) she enjoys cooking, cleaning, and spending time with her teenage daughters. Garlena also enjoys the outdoors, fishing, and writes poetry.
When asked about what she thinks the program would benefit from she states, “We should be more outgoing even if we are not assigned a mentee, to spread the word about the IA program, and do as much as possible to help others.” Realizing there are student who shy away from asking for help, as she was one of those stu-dents, Garlena understands the action of offering to help instead of waiting to be asked adding that, “We need to reach those students and let them know we are there for them.”
Marina Raffey, Garlena’s mentee, did pretty well during her Associates degree but during her Bachelors needed some extra encouragement so she signed up for the Ambassador program. Recently, she was matched with Garlena, whom Mari-na describes as “one of the very best mentors in the world”. Through the work with Garlena, she now feels that she can do anything she puts her mind to. Gar-lena has been able to provide academic support as well as motivation that has al-lowed Marina to remain focused on her degree. Marina overcomes challenges by listening to Clint Brown, because his songs help get her focused on schoolwork. Outside school, Marina enjoys taking her little ones to the pool. We wish to say congratulation’s to Garlena for outstanding achievement and for her dedication to the program and her mentee by naming her June’s Ambassador of the Month! - Lynn Albrecht Secretary & Public Relations Officer

Loser television show and is the “One Click” movement found-er, and Daniel Hernandez. Daniel touched the nation on Janu-ary 8, 2011 when he took action that saved the life of Con-gresswoman Gabrielle Gifford after a gunman shot her and 18 people. His activism has spanned the political scene from serv-ing as Gifford’s congressional intern to working on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. He also has a book titled, “They call me a hero”. We would all like to send a huge thanks to these two Ambassadors for representing our school and our program at NSCS’s National Leadership Council 2013.

Lynn was born and raised in Washington, DC. Early interests were developed by the access to history and culture. The National museum of Natural His-tory, Smithsonian, National Art Museum, National Air and Space Museum, in addition to the various monuments in Washington, DC provided a rich foundation on interest and information to build upon. She went to school and obtained professional certifications as a Microsoft Certified Profession-
al (MCP), and Comp Tia’s A+, Network+, and Security+. Later, she would obtain a Vet-erinary Assistant certification, but had to choose a direction due to medical issues that prevented her from performing the physical aspect of the job. Always thinking ahead, she decided to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. There were two reasons. First, she always enjoyed investigating and forensics and she thought that she could marry the two interests. Lynn thought that by blending the veterinary nursing interest with a criminal justice degree, she might be able to work in the field of animal abuse investigations and prosecution of those cases. That remains one of the many possibilities open to her today. Lynn graduated with her Associates degree from Everest University in July 2012 with a 4.0 GPA, and with two semesters left until she completes her Bachelor’s degree, she still holds a 4.0 GPA. She is driven, proactive, and relentless in pursuit of her dreams.
Why did you choose to become an Ambassador?
I was introduced to the Ambassador program on-ground, and believe fully in the philos-ophy behind the program. It is a leadership program, where you assist others who are in need of academic help. I have matured through the program. For example, I really strug-gled in the first year of my Associate’s degree. Poor time management and distractions caused severe stress. However, I am grateful for having that experienced because it caused me to find a different way to get things done. Through the help of the Ambassa-dor program, I learned these skills. Negativity and self-doubt were replaced with confi-dence from others. They knew I could do it, when I did not think I could. That encour-agement makes a huge impact in others. When I said there is no way I can take Algebra, a faculty member believed in me. Every morning, I saw this person, she had some en-couraging words to say, and I passed with an A. I did not get much sleep for three months, but it was worth it. In addition, the Ambassadors are involved with many great causes, like sending cards to the troops, and other service projects. It is a way to get out of yourself, leave your troubles behind for a while and help others. While I get to sleep
in comfort, that soldier may not be able to sleep, may be tired and lonely. It is not hard to have empathy for others.
So, describe Lynn Albrecht?
(Laughs). I am a 51-year young Criminal Justice Bachelor student, Ambassador, and Officer. I am a multiple stroke survivor, and it was and remains the most humbling experiences in my life. When you recover from a stroke, you must learn to do the simplest things over again, in a different way. It is challenging and rewarding learning experience, which has helped me stay motivated to find solutions and different methods to tackle a problem. You must be open-minded when you are goal and solution orientated. As a horse enthusiast and nature lover, I spend as much time as possible outdoors. I have had the honor of owning horses and working with them is an incredible experience. They are simply majestic crea-tures.
How do you handle the workload of being a student, Ambassador, and Officer?
Sacrifice. I work ahead in my classes whenever possible and stick to a rigorous work ethic. Self-discipline is essential for online learning. I also use rewards. For example, when I com-plete a project, I will reward myself with something I enjoy. Use a variety of strategies. For example, time management is key, but keeping an open line of communication with other students, fellow Ambassadors, and of course, the Officer team is a critical method of not be-coming overwhelmed. Being prepared and knowing how to prioritize my personal commit-ments, school assignments, and other events is necessary to prevent starting many projects and completing none. There must be a sense of accomplishment, and taking time for myself is one thing that must take place. Eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and exercise is very important to student success. I have learned to enjoy downtime and turn off the electronics from time to time.
What Professional associations are you involved in?
American Records Management Association (ARMA)
National Veterinary Technician Association
Phi Beta Lambda – Future Business Leaders of America
