Thank you so much for your recent letter. All of us at the College of Engineering were deeplytouched by your wish to find a special location for Jengyee's remains near the UC Berkeleycampus, especially with the knowledge that she spent some of her happiest and most productiveyears here on campus.

Unfortunately, UC Berkeley does not have a burial site on campus nor are there plans toestablish one. It is, however, possible to honor Jengyee's memory on the Berkeley campus byplanting a memorial tree on her behalf. This might be a thoughtful gesture to symboli ze rrewlife, hope and inspiration.

There will be a special opportunity to plant a tree in her memory as part of the new CITRISbuilding project which is scheduled to open on February 27 ,2009. This location will be withinthe heart of the College of Engineering and would certainlybe a wonderful way to reflectJengyee's time here on the Berkeley campus. Please let me know if you would like us toproceed with planting a tree in memory of Jengyee.

As well, my staff has researched possible cemeteries for you to consider which are all locatedin the Oakland and El Cerrito area, some of which are close to the Berkeley campus. I haveprovided these options on the following page along with the campus tree planting policy foryour reference.

All of us at the College of Engineering will endeavor to honor Jengyee's memorybyremembering her indomitable spirit and by inspiring our students to reach their highestcapability just as she did. Best wishes from all of us on culmpus.

In more than 20 years of teaching, Jengyee stands out as one of the most remarkable students I have ever met – no – one of the most remarkable people I have ever met (over much more than 20 years). Jengyee held an unbelievable list of distinguished and influential positions while she was a student, and was honored with the Bechtel Engineering Scholarship. Thanks in large part to her leadership as President of the Student Chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Chapter won an IIE gold medal award for its activities and accomplishments. She fostered many opportunities for students and faculty to connect with each other, and was a good friend to many. Indeed, Jengyee created an unbelievable sense of community around her, and made the IEOR department a better place. Her friends at UC Berkeley share your mourning for her loss. - Rhonda Righter, Professor and Department Chair Jengyee was one of those rarest of people – you always felt better after talking to her… About everything. Magic. Few former students kept in touch like Jengyee. I was thrilled to be included in the introduction to her book, and to be counted among her friends. I was asked by her manager at P&G after she was forced to quit because of her illness if “There were any more people like Jengyee at Berkeley” they could try to hire. I said “No. There is nobody like her, anywhere, she is unique.” Lee Schruben I would like to add here a paragraph from a recommendation letter I wrote on her behalf in 2004: “I have known Jengyee for the last two years, as a student in my course, and as an active student government representative. Jengyee took my course in 2002. Her performance was among the best in the class. Jengyee is a wonderful person and a wonderful student to have in class. She is enthusiastic, interested, fully engaged and bursting with questions. She is very intelligent and active and continuously working on making things better for all around her. Moreover, Jengyee has been using her significant leadership skills outside of class as well. She organized various student activities and has served in office for the student administration.” Dorit Hochbaum
