I spy a Christian

(Joh 13:31-38) Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God

is glorified in him. If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall

straightway glorify him. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said

unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that

ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to

another. Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me

afterwards. Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock

shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

I. I spy intimacy with Christ

(Joh 13:31) Therefore, when he was gone out,

A. Intimacy is a

PRIVATE moment

(Mat 6:5-6) And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to

pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have

their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast

shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward

thee openly.

II. I spy intentions fulfilled

(Joh 13:31) Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in

A. Intention to Glorify through

the PLIGHT of the cross

(Mar 8:34) And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also,

himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

(Gal 5:24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections

and lusts.

(Gal 6:14) But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto

the world.

B. Intention to Glorify through

the POWER of the

resurrection

Rom. 6:1-13

(Mat 5:16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,

and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

(1Pe 4:16) Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him

glorify God on this behalf.

thyself. On these two commandments hang all

wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that

we love one another.

PLUMBLINE to

measure by

(1Jn 3:14-18) We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth

not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a

murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down

our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and

shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God

in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in

deed and in truth.
