EDITORIALAZAD C.C. is 45 years old. The dub has a proud

heritage and is indebted to those who have set us such high standards in non-collaboration and fair play. The club celebrates its 45th anni­versary at a time when the people are facing severe repression, the state of emergency ex­ceeds 1000 days and news censorship is the or­der of the day. There is much talk of reform but very little meaningful change.

Sacos and its affiliates are coming under severe pressure from all sides. The lack of finance is one of our great problems. Non-racial sports persons and administrators are making great sacrifices to foster sports. In spite of all handi­caps, the successful staging of Sacosport Festi­val 1988 demonstrates the people will succeed.

The TCB, of which AZAD C.C. was a founder member, was sadly liquidated in 1988, which is now replaced by CAT. This sad history will be remembered by non-racial sports in SA.

The untimely death of Dr Asvat has left a huge vacuum in our lives. We salute his revolu­tionary contribution to society.

The AZAD C.C. continues its dedication and com­mitment to the non-racial principles of Sacos and takes this opportunity to salute fellow sportspersons who are striving for the same ideals.

PARTICIPANTSAZAD, PIRATES, CRESCENTS, PROTEA, BANK, LENASIA SPURS, RIVERLEA AND CAVALIERS

RULES & PLAY1) Teams shall split into two sections.2) The competition shall be played on a "Round Robin" basis.3) The normal rules of cricket shall apply.4) Each team shall bat 5, 6 ball overs.5) Each bowler is restricted to bowling 1 over only.6) Wides and no balls shall be 1 run and 1 extra ball to bo

bowled.7) All queries will be handled by the tournament committee

whose decision is final and only the respective captains will be allowed to raise such queries.

8) Each team may register a minimum of 8 players.9) A minimum of 6 players will constitute a side at all times of

play. Otherwise the defaulting team will forfeit the- match.

10) Players will only be allowed to play for the club that has registered them with the Cricket Association of Transvaal.

11) Players must be present at the draw to be eligible to play.12) Bowlers run up is limited to 10 metres.13) Points will be awarded as follows:

2 points for win 1 point for tie 0 point for a loss

14) In the event of two or more teams having the same number of points the team scoring the most runs shall be the winners of the section. If the runs scored are the same the team losing fewer wickets will be the winners and if the wickets lost are the same the team winning the most tosses will be the win­ners.

15) Rule no 14 will apply in the event of a tie in the final.16) If play is interrupted due to unforeseen circumstances the de­

cision of the tournament committee shall prevail.

TRIBUTE TO DR ASVAT

The relationship between AZAD C. C. and the late Dr Asvat bagan during the season proceeding the launch of the now liquidated T.C.B. and that relationship grew from strength to strength up to his untimely death.

We want to pay tribute for the tremendousamount of work he did not only for Crescent C.C. but also for T.C.B. and C.A.T. He taught us to find time for the strengthening of non-racial cricket and for the struggle for liberation.

His presence at all our functions will be sorelymisseed and so too his keen competitiveness on the cricket field.

We have re-dedicated ourselves to "Hurley's" ideals.
