PASTOR’S LETTER FOR

August 2017

It is difficult for me to sit in the calm before the storm. I am impatient to get things going. I am like a dog that hears someone say the word “walk”. My mind starts racing and I want things happening now! It is very stressful for me to do nothing and wait. We are in a calm before the storm. By the end of August our new home will be built and ready for us to take possession. We have purchased a duplex at Deer Meadows, which is just outside of Hollidaysburg. We will spend the month of September getting the flooring installed, the painting done, new furniture delivered, downsizing our belongings again and moving. We will also be preparing to provide four days a week day care for our new grandson from October through December. This means there will be much to do. We will be dealing with contractors, taking delivers, packing boxes, and preparing for babysitting. It will be busy, busy, busy. However, the point is that it WILL be a storm that has not yet ar-rived. Packing is premature. Painters and floor layers are already on the schedule. We really don’t want any new furniture delivered for 10 weeks. Actually, we have done what can be done, and right now the task is to let “each day’s troubles (tasks?) be sufficient for the day”. “For everything there is a season” and the storm of moving and baby preparations season is not here yet. I wake up at three in the morning anxious about getting to things that really cannot be gotten to.

PASTOR’S LETTER FOR

August 2017

Does this ring true for anyone else? I have never been much of a procrastinator. I guess that is good, but on the other hand I have never been much good at waiting. God has given me this day to live in His presence and purpose. I can get so focused on tomorrow that I fail to notice the tasks and opportunities God has placed before me this day. If you see me with a distant gaze in my eyes for the over the next few weeks, nudge me. Remind me that today is today, tomorrow is tomorrow, and God meets us in the present. “This is the day the Lord has made”. Remind me to not miss it by being consumed by the tasks and trials of tomorrow.

Sunday, July 23, 2017 We honor St. James, Apostle

(His saint day is July 25) James, son of Zebedee was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, and traditionally considered the first apostle to be martyred. He was a son of Zebedee and Salome, and brother of John the Apostle. He is also called James the Greater or James the Great to distinguish him from James, son of Alphaeus and James the Just. James the Greater is the patron saint of Spain, and as such is often identified as Santiago.
