Introduction to Episode 1 - London and the GalapagosDarwin finds himself back on earth in a London hotel room and charged to look further at his theory in the light of 21st century science. He travels to the Galapagos Islands made famous by his 1835 visit aboard the H.M.S. Beagle.

Introduction to Episode 2. - The Fossils and the Tree Darwin encounters the 20th century evidence of the Cambrian explosion, the sudden appearance in geological time, “top-down” in the fossil record, of the major phyla, or divisions, of animal life. He discovers that the worldwide fossil record fails to support his “bottom-up” evolutionary tree of life.
