“People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude”

“I Bring You GOOD NEWS…”

In this morning’s lesson we will hear an angel tell a group of shepherds, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people,” Luke 2:10. The word used for “good news” comes from the same root word as the word “gospel.” Thus, what heaven has started we are now to carry forth, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel (i.e., GOOD NEWS),” Mark 16:15. Yet, what makes this news so “good”?

It tells us that God love mankind in spite of our sin – John 3:16

It tells us its benefits cannot be obtained through human effort– Ephesians 2:8-9

It tells us God’s Spirit is given to those who believe & obey it – Ephesians 1:13; Acts 5:32

The gospel requires belief – Romans 1:16

The gospel requires repentance – Mark 1:15

The gospel requires baptism – Mark 16:15-16

The gospel requires our lives – Mark 8:35

Man-made gospels eternally destroy those who teach/practice it – Galatians 1:6-9

Heaven is no longer allowed to proclaim the gospel as it did to those shepherds. Jesus has given this responsibility to His people alone. Once He had returned to heaven, Jesus even restrained Himself from telling others. For when Saul of Tarsus (the persecutor who became an apostle) asked, “‘Who are You Lord?’ [Jesus said from heaven], ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But rise, and enter the city, and [there] it shall be told you what you must do,’” Acts 9:5-6. Three days later a follower of Jesus asked Saul, “And now, why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins,” Acts 22:1.

So today we are to do what heaven won’t do and what non-believers can’t do! For Jesus says to us . . .

“Go into all the world and PROCLAIM the GOSPEL to all creation. The one who has believed and has been baptized

shall be saved, the one who has disbelieved shall be condemned!” Mark 16:16

Evangelizing the World for Christ

Jesus came to a lost world to live a life that would set the perfect example for all people of all time (I Peter 2:21-23). Because he lived such a life, he could be offered as a perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus lived that life, set that example, gave His life, and resurrected from the dead (Romans 1:4). A few days after His resur rection, He went back to heaven to take His position at the right hand of God and became our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). It was at this point in time when the purpose of His life (i.e., to seek and save the lost, Luke 19:10), was passed as a command to His disciples. That command is recorded in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-16.

Consider these scriptures:

A. “Go preach the gospel” (Mark 16:15-16). “Go teach” (Matthew 28:19). The word gospel means “good news.” B. “To every creature” and to “All the nations.” We go to all nations because all nations are lost without Jesus.” Read and study the following scriptures:

1. II Thessalonians 1:7-9: This passage says very clear ly that there are two classes of people who will suffer “everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord”: (a) those who do not “know God” and, (b) those who do not obey the gospel.”

2. Roman 1:16: This shows that the only way God will save a sinner is through the gospel of Jesus.

3. Ephesians 2:1,3,12: Descr ibes the condition of the man of Chr ist. The Scripture says that people who are out of Christ are “dead,” separated,” “excluded,” foreigners,” “without hope,” “without God.”

4. I Thessalonians 4:13: This passage teaches that those who die “in Christ” have joy, pleasure, peace, etc. Those who die out of Christ have no hope!

5. John 14:6: This declares that Jesus is the only way to God. You can’t go through any other prophet, savior, etc. There is none other.

6. Acts 17:30-31: Paul said that God would no longer over look the ignorance of men today, whether it is “denominational darkness” or “idol worship.”

All the world will be judged by the same standard.

We have an Evangelistic group that meets the first and third Saturdays of each month with Jerald Bass’ leadership. Please come and join us.
