EPHESIANS 6:5-95 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,

7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.

9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

WHAT IS AREWARD?noun• a thing given in recognition of

one's service, effort, or achievement.

Verb • make a gift of something to

(someone) in recognition of their services, efforts, or achievements.

SLAVERY IN ROMAN SOCIETY

There are at least four ways where someone can become a slave

in the Roman society.

JUST CONDITIONS

1. You would be paying off a debt.

2. The second way that people became slaves is they would—of their own volitional choice—place themselves in a position of slavery.

UNJUST CONDITIONS

3. One is that people were taken as prisoners of war.

4. Sometimes slaves were previously abandoned infants.

GOOD WORKS THAT GOD HAS PREPARED IN

ADVANCE FOR US TO DO

And so he’s going to give directives to those who are under authority and

those who are in authority.

EMPLOYEES

And he starts with directives for those who are under authority.

OBEY

“Not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers.”

REASONS FOR THE LACK

OF SUCCESS

“Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven,

there is no partiality with him.”

EMPLOYERS

CARE FOR YOUR EMPLOYEES•Care for your employees, care for those under your leadership.

•Give a fair salary, a decent benefits package.

DON’T THREATEN

And he says as well, “Stop threatening.”

>PEOPLE work for you>but who do YOU work for?

JESUS is my Boss; that’s my motivation.

Sometimes it’s internal reward.

Sometimes it’s an external reward.

It’s ultimately eternal.

FROM GOD?

RECOGNIZE THE PRESENCE OF GOD

EPHESIANS 6:8
