The event hosted by Dr (Mrs) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools & RBEF was graced by the presence of Dr Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Universe, members of the Chauhan family and heads of other Amity institutions. The guests for the event were ambassa- dors and delegates from various Euro- pean countries like Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia and Lithuania. The event also saw dignitaries from Japan. The occasion witnessed the participation of heads of different organisations such as European Union, UN Women, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, UN- ESCO, AFS, Goethe Institut, Amity Uni- versity etc. Parents, principals and students from Amity who hosted the in- ternational students were also present. The show began with an energetic song performance by Amitasha students. Congratulatory video messages from in- ternational partner schools, organisa- tions & cultural centres were played. Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Dr (Mrs) Amita Chauhan shared, “ Ever since the establishment of AERC in 2007, we have made great strides in con- necting our students with the world. Today, Amity has fostered international bonds with more than 30 countries.” She also announced the launch of two new international projects with the European Union. Also speaking at the occasion were people from various participating countries. H.E. Martin Strub, ambassa- dor of Switzerland to Sudan and Eritra, who could not attend the programme es- pecially sent a message that said, “Amity encourages fruitful debates and friend- ships between participants and it strengthens the bond between nations.” H.E. Talat Kelpsa, ambassador to Lithuania said, “Education can connect different cultures and countries and Amity is a big contributor in bridging this relationship.” Ann Marshal, part of the delegation of the EU spoke about the scope of higher education in Europe es- pecially through the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship programme. A member of the Swiss delegation thanked Amity and the host families for their involvement with the Swiss students and enriching their stay. One of the highlights of the get-together was the versatile welcome address by the two comperes in various European languages while welcoming the guests. Cheers and loud applause could be heard when foreign exchange students from Slovakia and AIS PV dressed in tradi- tional Indian costumes, danced to Indian songs. The Swiss foreign exchange stu- dents performed an Indian folk dance. A few other foreign students rendered a near perfect rendition of the iconic song ‘Vande Mataram’, to loud cheering. Stu- dents from AIS Vasundhara 6, Pranav and Vasavi who were part of the foreign exchange programme shared their expe- rience as to how it helped them evolve their global perspective and become a better human being. Vasavi also recited a poem, describing her stay abroad. Italian exchange student Emmanule Falli spoke about the warmth and care he received from his host family. The parents of the participating students also shared their experience and thanked the Chairperson for providing such opportunities to stu- dents. They appreciated her for her per- sonal involvement in the students’ lives and her vision and nurturing leadership for the students. The family that hosted Emmanule thanked Chairperson for giv- ing them a chance to host him and make a friend and son for life. At the event, Founder President applauded the work of all the schools and Chairperson. He felt that this event will connect people and cultures and appreciated all those in- volved in the programme, enabling to reach greater heights. Jyoti Arora, director, AERC, spoke about the exponential growth of the pro- gramme and how it was promoting unity in diversity. She said, “AERC is a gate- way to the world. Amity and AERC with its constant endeavour to open new fron- tiers of education have launched many new programmes every year, and AIMUN, which is the largest MUN con- ference in education has reached its sixth year and is one of the most awaited MUN conference.” She also thanked Chairperson for her involvement and en- deavours in the projects. The foreign students were awarded an ‘Amity Alumnus’ certificate on the oc- casion. The evening concluded with high tea for the dignitaries and all those who were present at the event. Those were the days Golden days As I see my diary and smile The days which are so cherished Words which make me relive each moment I started looking forward to each day As there was something exciting for me Meeting ambassadors and dignitaries And listening to their childhood memories There were five of us Each of us filled with excitement Little did we know That journey would change our existence My heart was filled with excitement and enthusiasm During my visit to Indian embassy and UN centre in Vienna When I met Secretary General Ban Ki-moon My mouth was wide open with surprise Slovakia welcomed us with its cold climate Chilly winds and warm sunlight The hosts were friendly and caring The teachers affectionate and loving My host sister, Kristina was sporty and kind Lucia greeted me with tasty Indian cuisines And someone like Henrieta is difficult to find The Trenchin castle Reflected the royal history of Slovakia The trip to botanical garden was really newsy With the beautiful flowers and endangered species Hiking on the mountains was the most adventurous part A feeling of pride filled my body when we reached the peak Indeed it felt like a glorious victory I had conquered the weakness within me I enjoyed riding a horse in Riecnice The heaven of Slovakia, the statue of Janosik The national hero, the Maj festival And Slovakian wedding Have created an everlasting memorabilia. “AERC is gateway to the world.
