Project Overview

Why the project is needed?

• Provide Access to the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters

• Facilitate Access to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB)

• Increase motorist safety by bringing the Interchange up to AASHTO and DDOT Standards

• Add I-295 Southbound Access to Malcolm X Avenue

Project Scope• Roadway – 3.45 Lane Miles

• Bridges - 7 Bridges (5 single span, 1 two span, 1 three span)

• Retaining Walls – 240,000 SF of MSE and Post and Panel Walls with aesthetic finish

• Continuous Shared Use Path – 1.3 Miles

• Drainage, SWM, LID and Erosion & Sediment Control

• Roadway and Trail Lighting

• Traffic Signals

• Extensive Landscaping

• Signing and Pavement Markings

This rendering shows a new overpass bridge over I-295.

This overpass will allow I-295 southbound traffic to access Malcolm X Avenue and direct access to DHS HQ campus.
