Consequences of Laser

One unfortunate consequence of widespread use of Laser for cosmetic procedures is the amount of unwanted skin pigment change found. This means dark patches or patchy lightening of skin.

How does it work?

Laser is basically a focussed beam of light which is designed to heat up specific coloured bodies in skin. This includes hair follicles, pigment producing melanocytes or red blood cells (chromophores).

Why do you get pigmentation after laser?

Laser works by causing a thermal injury to a target area. Laser light is not a magic bullet and the phenomenon of “scatter” is common in this situation. Therefore not only the target cell but the surrounding area gets cooked which causes inflammation and Melanocyte stimulation.

Why do you get pigmentation after laser?

In addition the injury caused by Laser is often deep in the dermis leading to a very treatment resistant blue -grey hyperpigmentation. The most suitable skin for laser cosmetic treatment is fair skin

My Experience with Post laser Hyperpigmentation

• I have treated about 250 cases of post laser hyperpigmentation on the face and body and I find that the pigmented area tends to take longer to treat than post acne pigmentation or melasma.

My Experience with Post laser Hyperpigmentation

• On average 1 treatment will give a 30-40% reduction in post laser pigmentation at The Hyperpigmentation Clinic.

• We use an Advanced Mandelic based peel packed with Tyrosinase Inhibitors which calm down hyperactive melanocytes so they produce a normal amount of pigment.
