PROGRAMPeriodontics - Facts, Fiction and the Future Laurence S. Ambrose, DDS, MSCourse Description:This presentation will provide and entertaining and informative review of some myths and misconceptions surrounding periodontics and implant dentistry. We will also explore what the future holds for the profession and how the role of the dental hygienist is evolving in the era of collaborative care.Learning Objectives:• Dispel some common myths about periodontal and peri-implant disease• Separate the facts from the fiction about products and techniques we use every day• Discuss future therapies that dental hygienists can incorporate into their practice

Implants 101: Managing Your DentalImplant Patients with ConfidenceDean Ahmad, DDSCourse Description:Maximizing the restorative outcome requires precision implant planning, placement, as well as meticulous understanding and development of the gingival environment. Building a sound knowledge-base will allow you to develop proper implant treatment planning sequences utilizing a digital workflow, understanding implant complications and mastery of periodontal implant maintenance techniques to increase precision, decrease morbidity, and improve esthetic outcomes. Learning Objectives:• Understanding the biology of the peri-implant mucosa and osseointegration • Treatment planning for success• Ridge preservation techniques for site development• Implant surgical and prosthetic complications• implant maintenance techniques

Periodontal-Systemic Links: The Case forEarly Intervention of Periodontal DiseaseCasey Hein, BSDH, RDH, MBACourse Description: Are you under-diagnosing or waiting too long to diagnose periodontal disease? This course explores the sig-nificance of periodontal infection in increasing systemic inflammation, and provides a compelling rationale for early intervention of periodontal disease. Casey also discusses the role of the nonbacterial risk factors in amplifying the threat of periodontal disease, and reviews the components of a comprehensive periodontal evaluation, proposing a number of hurdles and conditioned assumptions that hijack diagnosis of periodontal disease. The course concludes by presenting an overview of the new classification of periodontal diseases and discusses the continuum of care between dental hygienists and periodontists. Learning Objectives:• Describe to patients how periodontal infection impacts overall health including increasing the risk for diabetic complications, coronary artery disease, stroke, pneumonia, and adverse pregnancy outcomes, among others. • Perform a comprehensive periodontal evaluation. • Identify the hurdles and conditioned assumptions that hijack the diagnosis of periodontal disease.• Identify patients in the earliest stages of periodontal disease.• Classify periodontal disease according to the framework established by the 2017 workshop of the American Academy of Periodontology and the European Federation of Periodontology.
