Hydropower and Natural gas
By: Sarah and Demetrius
How is this energy used to produce electricity and is it
renewable or nonrenewable?• Hydroelectric energy is used to produce
electricity. As the water falls it has kinetic energy as it turns the wheel the kinetic energy is converted into mechanical energy. If the wheel is connected to a generator the mechanical energy is going to change into electrical energy.. Hydropower is renewable because water is constantly cycling from the source to the air then the land and back to the source.
How long have humans used this energy source and how is
it used in present day?In ancient times the Romans used
water wheel to operate pumping mechanisms for aqueducts. the Romans were thousands of years old. In present day hydropower is harnessed by dams that are built on a water source. Water wheels also are used to generate energy.
Advantages• After the dam is built
hydroelectric energy is inexpensive. This source of energy causes little pollution. It could also reduce the demand of fossil fuel which cause big amounts of air pollution.
Disadvantages • Hydroelectric energy is not available
any where. It can only be produced were large amounts of water can be harnessed . Using hydropower can disturb the migratory path of salmon and steelhead.
Natural gases• How is this energy used to produce electricity? When natural gas is burned it releases heat and electricity.
Advantages • Natural gas burns
more cleanly than the other fossil fuels.
• This fuel for vehicles are cleaner than diesel and gasoline.
Disadvantages • Even though it is
cleaner than coal and oil, it still has a large amount of carbon dioxide a greenhouse grasses.
• It can leak, causing an explosion.
• It’s very flammable.
How is the energy formed used in present day?
Natural gas is used for… Kitchen stovesCarsPlanes and shipsAlso producing heat and electricity.
The End!!!!!!!! Try not to laugh!!!!!!
