IntroductionWhat is brake ?

A Brake is a device used to slow down the motion of body by means of artificial frictional resistance. It depends upon the force of friction & always acts in opposite direction to the force producing the motion.

Why Hydro-Pneumatic Brake ?In pure hydraulic system, the actuation is slow but, the pressure developed is much higher. In pure pneumatic system, the actuation is fast but, the pressure developed is less for same input as compared to hydraulic system. So why not combine both the systems?

Final Assembly

ApplicationsIt can be used in heavy vehicles like trucks, tempos, dumpers, buses, etcIt can also be used in presses & for clutch engagement of big forging machines.

AdvantagesAbsence of brake rods, joints in the system make it very simple in construction and quick in operationEqual and very small braking effort to all the four wheels. The wear rate is quite low because the system is self lubricating.Flexibility in braking lines. Finally, the combined advantage of this type of braking is, quick actuation due to pneumatics & high pressure development due to hydraulics.
