StatorThe frame is welded and machined towithstand stresses exerted by electricaland mechanical forces in the core andprovide low vibration levels.

The stator is composed of a supportingstructure, a core of electrical laminationsand insulated windings.

The core is built up with high grade siliconsteel laminations that are precision punchedfrom core plated sheets. The laminationsare stacked in the support structure andspaced for radial ventilation to ensureeven cooling throughout the core. Thelaminations are pressed and held betweenend plates.

The windings are Vacuum PressureImpregnated (VPI) with a global processusing a two part epoxy resin. The VPI systemprovides excellent dielectric properties, superior resistance to moisture andchemicals, and outstanding mechanicalintegrity and long generator life.

RotorThe rotor consists of a spider on which thefield poles, amortisseur (damper) windingsand exciter armature are mounted.Depending primarily on the runaway speedrequirement, the rotor spider may befabricated steel with field pole anchorsusing high strength bolts, laminated sheetswith dovetails, or forged with tee ordovetail as required.

Industry standardsThe field poles are comprised of steellaminations that are pressed and boltedtogether to withstand rotational andelectrical stresses. Field pole windings canbe either rectangular wire or flat copperwound poles. Individual turns are thenbonded layer by layer to hold the windingsfirmly in position for normal and runawayspeed conditions.

Rotor insulation is a full Class F systemfor long, trouble-free performance.

Rotors are balanced at our factory toreduce vibration, provide smoothoperation, and meet the overspeedrequirements of the application.

Quality Assurance and TestingElectric Machinery is ISO-9001:2000 certified.

All generators are assembled and testedin their own bearings at normal operatingspeed and voltage. Routine tests areperformed as required per NEMA MG-1standard. Bearing temperatures andvibrations are monitored during testing.Additional tests include efficiency, temperature rise, operation at runaway/overspeed condition, etc. All testing isperformed in accordance with IEEEprocedures.
