WHY THE SPORTSMAN 38?• Performance: The Huckins hull is a stable platform at all speeds and does not
wallow. Even without trim tabs she does not list when too many people are sitting or standing on one side of the boat. All Huckins ride at a constant 3 ½ degrees on plane and they come up on plane in 4 seconds. This gives good visibility at all times. The Sportsman 38 has a top speed of 35+ knots and a top cruising speed of 30 knots. She comes up on plane at 11 knots which gives her a wide cruising range on plane, this allows one to adjust the speed of the boat to match the sea. With light weight construction and efficient hull form the Sportsman 38 is not only fuel efficient, but provides a smooth ride.
• Maneuverability: Joystick docking makes maneuvering easy but what sets Huckinsapart is maneuverability in a seaway. The Sportsman 38 climbs over the sea whenneeded and does not plow thru it. She handles a following sea without bowsteering and will easily climb the back of a wave and ride it with full controlremaining at the helm.
• Safety: While safety is evident in the Sportsman 38 hull stability andmaneuverability, it is also apparent in the construction. The hull & superstructureare 100% fiberglass composite/core construction engineered to take abusive
poundings at sea. It is Infused with vinyl ester, E glass and Core-Cell® M structuralfoam to form an “I” beam construction which is much stronger and lighter thansolid fiberglass. Three watertight compartments create a large safety factor. Ifwater intrudes thru a damaged hose or seacock it does not shift to othercompartments.
• Low maintenance: Mahogany panels on the superstructure are screwed into aninset in the fiberglass side and can be easily removed for varnish, or it can bereplaced with a fiberglass composite panel painted with Alexseal two-part UV
resistant polyurethane paint. Below the sole, the bilges and stringers are faired tothe same perfection as the hull sides for easy maintenance.
• Silence: There are few boats in which the swish of the water is the dominate note.Cruise on battery power and listen to the wind, a flying fish or birds. Continue toenjoy silence under the stars while anchored and utilizing the comforts of themicrowave, refrigerator and 110 outlets, all running off the inverter.
• Adaptability: The Sportsman 38 is perfect for extended cruises to the Bahamas,Province of Nova Scotia, or the Great Loop. It is also perfect for day cruises, fishing,or just playing around with a group of friends.
• Dual Propulsion: Diesel power for speed and extended cruising. Electric motors forquiet and environmentally friendly cruising.
HERITAGE & HISTORYEver since Frank Pembroke Huckins produced one of the world’s first
planing hulls in 1928, our company has held fast to his vision by creating
vessels that are not simply uncommon, but positively unique.
You can see it in every Huckins’ yacht on the water today, the
unmistakably elegant lines and a level of performance attainable only
with ultra-modern materials and engineering.
You can be certain that Huckins’ reputation for excellence is based on
more than skilled hands and the pursuit of perfection. It is, in large
measure, based on personal attention to detail. With 90 years under
our belt, history has proven that Huckins are built to last.

DNA:
The Sportsman 38 has genealogical roots stemming from the Huckins Sportsman 36 that was built
in 1936. Huckins wanted to keep the beautiful art deco profile of the 30's and merge it with
today's technology and advanced hull design, ultimately creating a new era of semi-custom yachts
using the same high-quality engineering, design, and construction standards of today.

CONSTRUCTIONThe new Sportsman 38 is a blend of traditional styling with the most modern materials and processing techniques. The hard chine Quadraconic® hull gets the Sportsman 38 up on plane quick and allows efficient cruising at lower speeds.
The light weight but robust composite sandwich construction consists of tough Core-Cell® M100 impact resistant structural foam, E-glass base fabrics for appropriate strength and stiffness, Kevlar/E-glass blends for bottom skin damage tolerance, and unidirectional Carbon fiber laminates strategically placed in stringers and tight details; all joined with vinyl ester resin. Countervail® sound deadening, vibration cancelling technology is placed at chines and stringers.
Hull and topsides are painted with Alexseal two part UV resistant polyurethane paint.
