HWS I architectural studies...major course requirements/14 courses 8/27/13 INTRODUCTORY ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES COURSE 1 required ARCH 110 Introduction to Architectural Studies ART STUDIO 2 required ARTS 125 Drawing ARTS 115 3D Design (or ARTS 114 Intro to Sculpture) ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES HISTORY AND THEORY 3 required Three 200/300/400-level history/theory courses with significant content in architecture/landscape architecture. May be ARTH/ARCH/abroad courses. ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 2 required ARCS 200 Design Studio I: Spatial Concepts & Precepts (prereq: Art 125, Art 115 or Art 114, Arch 110) ARCS 300-LEVEL Design Studio at HWS or DIS-Copenhagen or Lexia-Berlin or Rome (prereq: Arcs 200) ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY & URBAN STUDIES 2 required Any courses with significant content in environmental studies, sustainability, and/or urban studies. Several options are listed on reverse, although other courses not listed will count with advisor approval. HISTORY 1 required Any course taught in the History Department. ELECTIVES AT 200-LEVEL OR HIGHER* 3 required Electives in any discipline or department to increase the amount of interdisciplinary study within the major. Bearing this in mind, only two of these electives must be taken outside the disciplines of studio art, art history, architectural studies, and architecture design studio, whether taken at HWS or abroad. For optimal career path exploration and development, these electives should be thoughtfully taken based on your interests and in consultation with your advisor. *By special permission from your architecture major advisor, students may count these HWS-taught 100-level courses toward these electives. MATH (Calculus 130 or 131 ) or PHYSICS (140, 150, or 160). **Students may not use transfer or AP credits for Math or Physics if they want those credits to count as major electives.
