NATIONAL SCHOOL TRAVEL AWARD
We are delighted to announce that Hurst Park has become the first school in Surrey to achieve Gold
accreditation in the Modeshift STARS National School Travel Awards for all our work towards the school travel plan. The award was presented in assembly, last Friday, by Councillor Julie Iles and Edward Cowley from Surrey
County Council's safer travel team. Well done to everyone for all your hard work - keep swapping those
'school runs' for walks, scoots and cycles!
CHANCE TO WIN
As part of Save our Planet Week, the kitchen are running a special
competition.
Do you have a favourite vegetable? Make it a cute cartoon character
that excites everyone and spreads the word: Eating vegetables is good
for your body, food for the Earth! Grab your brush/pencils and some creative time and make sure you give your drawing to our catering team by 14th October. The catering team will select a winner, who will be entered into the overall final, where it will compete with other school’s entries. The top 3 winners will get a
vegetable hamper with recipes, together with a chef’s hat and apron. In addition, the first prize will have their winning entry turned into an amazing soft toy
character. The top 3 winners will be announced on 8th November.

Children taking part in bikeability training next week should come to school dressed in their outdoor PE kit and trainers. Depending on the weather, they may need a waterproof coat. During the week, they
will only need their uniform to change into on Thursday, for the school photographs. On arrival at school, would children please leave their bike in the correct section of the bike shed by the drop-off zone.
Helmets may be taken into the classroom.
NUT FREE SCHOOL Please could you note that we have several children at school who suffer from a severe allergy to nuts. Consequently, the school is a nut free zone. However, on occasions, we notice that some children are bringing in packed lunches that contain nuts, e.g. peanuts, peanut butter, Nutella, oat bars (containing
traces of nuts) etc. Please could you support the school by leaving nuts / nut products at home for your children to enjoy and provide nut free items for school.
