HurricanesHurricanes are only called hurricanes when the

storm forms over the Atlantic Ocean or Pacific Ocean. Hurricanes low level winds blow counter clock wise within the northern hemisphere. And rotate clock wise when in the hurricane is in the southern hemisphere. Hurricanes are basically gigantic spiraling tropical that pack around 160miles of wind speed. Hurricanes can last over a week moving around 10-20 miles per an hour over the vacant ocean. Hurricanes spin around low pressure which is referred to as the eye. Which could be as wide as 20 to 30 miles. And sometimes hurricanes can form tornados. Hurricanes can even have there own season June 1st through November 30. But most of the time hurricanes form in the fall.

But hurricanes are not all that bad. Because they do an important job for the earth. They help transfer heat form warm tropical places to the cooler temperature zone.

Page 3: Hurricanes

How do hurricanes form?First the tropical disturbance must produce

converting air masses. Second, the converting air must rise. Except for in the area where there are either strong winds or descending air masses aloft.

Some of stuff that must be done for a Hurricane to form.

1. The temperature of the waters surface has to be 80 or more.

2. There has to be weather disturbances like thunderstorms at the formation point.

3. The winds should be light and steady in the upper regions.

4. The hurricane must develop an organized pattern of convection.

Preparing for a HurricanesHere are some thing people should to prepare for a hurricane

People should create a family plan ahead of time. Find the proper place for the family to hide without getting hurt.

Create a bag for every family member so if anything shall happen each family member has the necessary things that they need to survive.

Protect your home so that if anything does happen you have your house secure so that there is a bigger chance of it staying in tact. Rather than you not attempting to secure it and it all goes crashing down.

Some of the things that should be packed in your bag. A flare gun so if anything happens you can call out for

help A solar power cell phone because it is charged by solar

power you won't have to worry about it dying when you need it.

Clothes so if contagious or bad stuff get on it you can change out of it and where new ones.

Food, Food that won't spoil easily so if you need food you won't die from starvation.

A supply of fresh water because our body is around 70% made of water and a person will die faster just eating food. Rather than drinking fresh water.

Effects of Hurricanes One of the effects that hurricanes have on the

environment is erosion. When hurricanes come it causes huge waves because it makes the water rise. The waves and high water level referred to as storm surge causes the erosion.

Another affect is the loss of power. And because of the hurricanes strong winds could knock down power lines which means the people are not able to call because the phone is dead. And god forbid that something happens the people wont be able to call for help.

The hurricanes can affect people economically because the hurricanes winds and waves can destroy the people's property.

Also the hurricanes can cause flooding drifting homes and buildings causing a lot of damage.

Fun facts A hurricane is a powerful storm system

with a large low pressure center that produces intense winds and heavy rainfall.

Most Australians call hurricanes willy-willies.

Most hurricanes are harmless at sea. Hurricanes cause millions and billions

of dollars to go to waste. Including houses, buildings, money it self, stores and etc.

Hurricanes can cause landscapes to wash away because of the strong forces of water if the water hits something hard enough if, it could actually rearrange the way that object looked.
