Preface

The following seniority lists have been prepared in compliance with Article XI, Seniority, of the Master Agreement between the Huron Valley Board of Education and the HVEA, MEA/NEA. Article XI sets forth the procedure for preparing and publishing this list by the end of the first semester. The priorities for ranking employees on this seniority list are: 1. The employee’s first day of work. 2. If more than one employee has a given seniority date, total years teaching experience is considered. 3. If individuals are still tied, substitute teaching experience in Huron Valley Schools is considered. In an actual layoff situation the provisions of Article XII, Staff Layoff and Recall Procedures would come into effect. Specific priorities from this article would include: 1. Tenure teachers have priority over probationary teachers. 2. Continuing certification has priority over provisional certification. 3. Certain middle school assignments require either a major or a minor or successful experience in that

field of specialization. Another factor was also taken into consideration, i.e., reserve teacher credit for those teachers on layoff who worked as reserve teachers during l980-81. That priority list, based on service credit earned by reserve teachers as compared with those who did not serve as reserve teachers, is shown in Part III. Part IV outlines the current understanding concerning seniority credit for administrators in the teacher bargaining unit. NOTES: PTE = Previous teaching experience, where applicable HVS Sub = Substitute teaching in Huron Valley, where applicable RT = Reserve Teacher - See Part III LTD = Long Term Disability PS = Probationary Status (All are Tenure teachers, except where noted Probationary Status)

**A member that is on an unpaid voluntary leave of absence of longer than one year (356 days) shall have their seniority frozen and shall not continue to accrue seniority for the remainder of said leave until the first day worked after the conclusion of the leave. The date when the member’s seniority shall be frozen will be on the 366th day after the start of the unpaid voluntary leave. When the member returns to work after the unpaid voluntary leave of more than 365 days, their seniority shall be adjusted to reflect the binding, new seniority date on the seniority list. For historical purposes only, the seniority list will reflect both the binding, new seniority date for the member returning from unpaid voluntary leave and also the old, invalid seniority in parenthesis. The seniority list will reflect the description contained in this section.

PART III The following list was prepared for recall decisions for the 1981-82 school year and was reviewed and accepted by the HVEA. This must be considered in conjunction with the seniority lists above so as to reflect the service provided by Reserve Teachers during the l980-81 school year.
