Mosiah 2: 1-8

King Benjamin’s subjects were already faithful people. He wanted them to progress even

further.

Mosiah 2: 9-19Mark 10: 43-45

‘…but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.’

Leadership is not a privilege, it is a responsibility.

As patriarchs and Priesthood holders, we bear this responsibility.

Mosiah 2: 20-21Why are we all “Unprofitable Servants”?

22 And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you. 23 And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him. 24 And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?

Mosiah 3:19The ‘natural man’ doesn’t just describe our tendency to choose evil over good, it also describes our tendency to become complacent with ‘good’ over ‘better.’

A ‘good’ man might:

• Serve because he is commanded to.

• Serve because he fears the Lord’s punishment.

• Serve because he wants others to recognize him as a ‘good’ man.

• Serve because he feels obligated to do so.

• Serve to secure blessings for himself.

A ‘righteous’ man might:

• Serve because he wants to.

• Serve because he loves the Lord and wants to be like Him.

• Serve because it fulfills him.

• Serve because he loves God’s children.

• Serve to secure blessings for others.

“Service is not something we endure on this earth so we can earn the right to live in the celestial kingdom. Service is the very fiber of which an exalted life in the celestial kingdom is made.

Knowing that service is what gives our Father in Heaven fulfillment, and knowing that we want to be where He is and as He is, why must we be commanded to serve one another? Oh, for the glorious day when these things all come naturally because of the purity of our hearts. In that day there will be no need for a commandment because we will have experienced for ourselves that we are truly happy only when we are engaged in unselfish service.”

Mosiah 4: 14-15How do we, as patriarchs and Priesthood holders, better

serve our families?
